Twelfth Sunday in Ordinary Time| Décimo Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario

Last month for the Feast of the

Ascension I wrote about “endings and

beginnings” for Jesus and the Apostles. At

the end of the article I encouraged us to pray

about these questions:

“Is something ending in my life right now?

How do I feel about it? What new beginning is waiting for

me?”

Now I’ll share with you my personal answers to those

questions: This month I am retiring as Director of Deaf

Ministry after 30 years of serving the Catholic Deaf

Community in Western Oregon. It means an end to my

time in the Archdiocesan office, an end to always being the

one “responsible and in-charge”. I will joyfully

CONTINUE to be with the Deaf and with you for liturgies,

because you are my Faith Community, and I’m not leaving

you! In fact, I’m excited and grateful to note our on-going

friendship by celebrating my 50th Jubilee as a BVM Sister

here at St. Peter’s this weekend. I’m also excited about

“new beginnings” for the Deaf Community as they support

Jilene Modlin in her new role as Coordinator of Deaf

Ministry. They already know each other well and are

looking forward to working together. THANK YOU,

members of St. Peter’s, for being part of my life when I first

arrived in Portland in the early 1970s! Thank you for being

part of my life again today…and in the years to come!

El mes pasado, para la Fiesta de la Ascensión, escribí sobre

"finales y comienzos" para Jesús y los Apóstoles. Al final

del artículo, nos animamos a orar acerca de estas preguntas:

"¿Hay algo que está terminando en mi vida ahora mismo?

¿Cómo me siento al respecto? ¿Qué nuevo comienzo me

espera?

Ahora voy a compartir con ustedes mis respuestas

personales a esas preguntas: Este mes me retiro como

Directora del Ministerio de Sordo Mudos después de 30

años de servir a la Comunidad de Sordo Mudos Católicos

en el Oeste de Oregón. Significa el fin de mi tiempo en la

oficina Arquidiocesana, el fin de ser siempre la

"responsable y encargada". CONTINUARÉ presente para

estar con los Sordo Mudos en las liturgias, porque son mi

Comunidad de Fé, y no los dejaré! De hecho, estoy

emocionada y agradecida de nuestra amistad y de estar

celebrando mis 50º años como Hermana BVM aquí en San

Pedro este fin de semana. También estoy entusiasmada con

los "nuevos comienzos" para la Comunidad Sordo Mudos,

ya que apoyan a Jilene Modlin en su nuevo papel como

Coordinadora del Ministerio de Sordo Mudos. Ya se cono-

cen bien y esperan trabajar juntos. ¡GRACIAS, miembros

de San Pedro, por ser parte de mi vida cuando llegué por

primera vez a Portland a principios de los 70! Gracias por

ser parte de mi vida de nuevo hoy ... y en los próximos

años!

Twelfth Sunday in Ordinary Time

In the Gospel today, we hear Jesus say:

“Everyone who acknowledges me before

others I will acknowledge before my

heavenly Father.”

This month, through your gifts, the Society of

St. Vincent de Paul was able to “acknowledge the

goodness of the Father” by assisting 81 families,

providing $10,829.00 in food and in gifts, and

$2,922.38 for utility and rent bills. Thank you!
