The Paralegal Post June/July 2018
In June, KCPA installed the Board for the 2018/19 term, awarded the Jeannie D. Conner
Memorial Scholarship to Cynthia Biggs, and honored Trinette Lidgett as the 2017/18 Paralegal
of the Year. Thank you to the Kern County Bar Association for the beautiful flowers it
provided to the out-going and in-coming board members, and to KCBA Vice President, Doug
Gosling for his kind words about his appreciation of paralegals and for issuing the oath to the
incoming board.
It’s hard to believe that July 2018, is already here. I trust that everyone had a wonderful
Independence Day celebration. I am very proud to live in America and to have the liberties
afforded to us as Americans.
Over the last 31 years, our organization has held meetings in a number of locations
throughout Bakersfield including The Hill House, Panda Palace, Bill Lee’s, The Bistro,
Hodel’s, Cask ‘N Cleaver, Maitia’s, Chalet Basque, J.C. Scott’s, Great Castle, The Petroleum
Club, and The Rice Bowl - just to name a few. I remember bringing bag lunches to meetings
held at various law firms in the 90’s in order to save our members the cost of an expensive
venue. Beginning in mid-2017, KCPA began holding its meetings in the training room of long
time sustaining member, Klein, DeNatale Goldner, Cooper, Rosenlieb & Kimball, LLP. The
venue has been great and the food fantastic.
Throughout the years KCPA has been very active in our community and in providing
pro bono services. Currently, the Greater Bakersfield Legal Assistance has a need for our help.
This would be a wonderful opportunity for us to serve and to show Kern County how effective
paralegals are. I challenge each of our members to consider the gift of your time for the benefit
of others.
Speaking of giving back, KCPA will hold its annual Member Appreciation Ethics
MCLE for members only on August 9, 2018, at noon, at Klein, DeNatale, Goldner, with Kelli
M. King, Deputy Kern County Counsel, presenting “Social Media Ethics for the Savvy Lawyer
and Paralegal.” We have room for 75 people and expect to sell out so please make your
reservations quickly. Don’t forget that your membership application must be submitted AND
accepted prior to the date of the meeting in order for you to attend. Membership applications
have been emailed to you and are available at www.kcpaonline.org under the “About Us” on
the ribbon, and then Membership and Benefit information.

Trinette Lidgett
Trinette Lidgett, Paralegal with The Law Offices of Leonard K. Welsh for over 20 years, was selected as
the 2017/18 Kern County Paralegal Association Paralegal of the Year.
Ms. Lidgett was nominated by Leonard Welsh and his wife, Kathi. In his nomination, Mr. Welsh stated
as follows:
“It is my honor and privilege to nominate Trinette Lidgett for the 2017/2018 Paralegal of the Year
Award. In all reality, I would like to nominate her as the Paralegal of the Decade or the last three dec-
ades because that is how long Trinette and I have worked together. Working for the same attorney in the
same area of the law for over 30 years should warrant some type of award. Trinette's hard work has
earned her expertise in the field of Bankruptcy Law and her dedication to our office and the clients that
we serve makes her a worthy candidate for this award.
Trinette began working with me as a file clerk when she was in high school. She quickly moved up to
the role of receptionist, legal secretary and then paralegal. Our office handles a variety of Bankruptcy
cases including Chapter 7s, 11s, 12s and 13s, representing individuals, small businesses, corporations,
partnerships, farmers, doctors, and an occasional creditor. This diversity requires a vast knowledge of the
law and local rules of practice as well as the skill to work with current forms and software. Trinette has
that knowledge and skill. But more importantly, Trinette has the patience and understanding to deal with
clients who are under a great deal of stress; clients who are often not organized; and clients who can be
both demanding and slow to respond. This is where Trinette shines. Trinette magically takes boxes filled
with disorganized bills, bank statements, financial documents and half completed Questionnaires from
frazzled clients and turns the documents into orderly bankruptcy forms that are complete, consistent and
accurate. Without exception, our clients love Trinette and are grateful for the kind way that she handles
each case.
Trinette has shared her knowledge and experience outside of our office as well. Trinette has shared her
expertise with a number of other legal assistants who are unfamiliar with Bankruptcy law and practice.
Trinette has served as an officer in the Kern County Paralegal Association over the years and has
provided hours of service to the Central California Bankruptcy Association and Kern County Bankruptcy
Forum.
Trinette keeps our office running smoothly ensuring that work product gets out the door in a timely fash-
ion. Trinette is the frontline for phone calls from clients, creditors and Trustees, keeping me free to work
on other matters. Trinette is respected within the Bankruptcy law community as one of the best bankrupt-
cy paralegals in the Central Valley. I have been extremely fortunate to have Trinette by my side through-
out my career. My practice would suffer immensely without her. In fact, I am not sure it would survive.”
Congratulations to Trinette Lidgett!

Congratulations to
Cynthia Biggs,
Paralegal at
LeBeau, Thelen.
Jeannie Conner was a member of KCPA since it was
founded in 1987. Jeannie was on the KCPA Board for a
number of years, holding various positions. In 2005, she was
named KCPA’s Outstanding Member of the Year.
Jeannie worked with Milton M. Younger at Chain-Younger.
She was a Certified Legal Assistant and a certified California
Advanced Specialist in Civil Litigation. Jeannie was
dedicated to her work as a paralegal. She was always willing
to share her knowledge with anyone who needed assistance.
Her interest in the continuing education of paralegals is the
reason KCPA chose to honor her memory with a scholarship
bearing her name.
