With the severe weather season upon us, and even worse— hackers taking down our power system. What would you do? Losing power would mean the lose of ATMs, gas pumps, traffic lights, street lights, etc. Electronic utilities which use backup power would gradually shut down. If your freezer was full at the beginning of the outage, the food would survive twice as long than if the freezer was half full. Smartphones would begin to lose power after 12 hours and cell towers are only required to have 8 hours of backup, so we would lose the internet in a short time. Battery powered radio would possibly be the only source of emergency notifications. After 48 hours the food in the freezer would start to go bad. In 3-4 days mass transit systems and health care systems would be taxed to the max. People in most towns would have a water supply, but country folks would not. We hope for the best but be prepared for the unexpected. Make the best of the nice weather.

A dispute also arose among them as to which one of them was to be regarded as the greatest… Luke 22:24 Imagine the scene… Jesus is in the upper room with his disciples sharing the Passover meal with them, and has just reinterpreted for them the meaning of the Passover: the Bread is his body the Wine is his blood and, he is about to be betrayed by one of them. And just after this, the disciples begin to argue who among them is the greatest? To us this display of argument in light of the circumstances seems utterly ridiculous. How could they miss the whole point of what’s is going on and what is about to happen? And yet, how are we any different? In the scheme of life, we often get embroiled into disputes about numerous details that seem silly compared to the mission that the Lord has given to his church. And that mission has been given to us folks. The spiritual landscapes of our communities in America are radically and rapidly changing. The number of people who haven’t heard of the love of God given to us in Christ Jesus is ever expanding…generations of people who have written off Christianity as pointless and superfluous. Children growing up in families who themselves have never really joined the church in worship and mission. How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? Romans 10:14 And just who is the greatest among us? And conversely, are there any who are disposable? Everyone is the greatest, and no one is disposable. We are all needed in this changing landscape, to share the gospel message of love to our neighbors in this world, to work together to serve our community, to share the love of Christ Jesus in word and deed, to care for the world God has made, and to stand for justice and peace in our community. The time for disputes is over. The time for exclusion of those not quite like us, is over. It is time for us to roll up our sleeves and get started. Together… We cannot do this without your help. All of you. We need your time, your resources, your prayers. The future of Christian faith in our community has been entrusted by our Lord, to us. Let us invest the gifts God has given us all, and spread the mission of God’s love. Let’s get to work. May the Lord uphold you in peace and strength. Pastor Ken

CBLC: Donated a vacuum and $500.00 towards the carpet fund.

With that donation, the remaining balance for the carpet is $250.00. We will be taking that money out of the building fund to replace carpet in chapel. Motion made to approve by Camille Skoug, second by Howard Hanson. Motion carried.

Old Business: None

New Business: We have some old desks and chairs to get rid of. Michelle will be putting them on Craig’s list.

Community Dinner

On Sunday, June 28, we will not be serving dinner in the Fellowship Hall at Immanuel Lutheran. Instead, we will be joining the participants in the Annual Canoe Trip and providing the meal at the Four Seasons park in Independence. Greetings from Your Daughters of the King, Ruth Chapter, and Rebekah and Esther Junior Daughters! Jumping Jehosaphat, it's June already! Since I last wrote, we celebrated the Great Festival of the Easter of Our Lord. Just before Easter, the Juniors made special crosses for the ILC shut-ins, which they delivered to the nursing home on May 27th. On May 2, to help celebrate the 100th year of the Brick Church, The JDOK gave a Senior Tea for ILC ladies who were 90 years old or more, along with a guest. Five ladies attended and were treated to a short program, High Tea, and then were interviewed about their parents' participation (if any) in the building of the Brick Church, as well as how life in the church was for them when they were girls. The Juniors made all the invitations and decorations, and served the food to the Senior Ladies. Each honored guest received a framed photograph of the stained glass window of Martin Luther, from the back of our church, as well as a program with a special poem written for the occasion. On June 25, Schultz Barn is putting on a special music concert featuring Gabe Koxlien! He will be supported by other musicians from our church. He has invited our Junior Daughters to come as special guests! Look for more details in the Church Bulletins! Last year at this time ILC rose to the "Little Things Make a Difference" Challenge, helping others through a toiletry collection drive. It was so successful that we'd like to do it again! The people of the Community Table still need toothbrushes, toothpaste, chapstick, and floss; soap, deodorant, & shampoo; feminine hygiene products, combs, hand sanitizers and hand lotion. All items must be unused, but they can be sample-sized or full-sized. These will be available to the people who come to the Community Table in Eau Claire, people who are unemployed or underemployed and need a little extra help. Look for the poster, and the blue bin under the table, by the Front Doors of the Church. Coming up this Summer ---- A Village-Wide Prayer Walk, followed by a picnic! Finally, I ask for your prayers as I attend the National DOK Triennial Convention, from June 19 through the 23. Feed My People Food Distribution (Eleva--Strum Mobile Food Pantry) The Eleva-Strum Mobile Food Pantry, held on the second Thursday of each month at the Village Hall in Strum, is changing. Starting in July, it will be moving to the Fellowship Hall at Immanuel Lutheran Church on the second Tuesday of the month and be known as The Community Cupboard. Hours of distribution are from 4:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. Rather than receiving random, miscellaneous items, we will be selecting items to distribute. It is our hope that this will allow for a more nutritious and useful selection. Parking is available in the rear (North) lot by the park. The Elm Street entrance is handicap accessible. Doors will open at 4:30 p.m., no earlier. Please bring a basket or tote with you to carry your items.

WELCA News

Dear Friends in Christ, Well, our ladies' Day Out went wonderfully! We did have an adventure driving al the way to Praag and the food and ambiance was great! In case you're interested, Thursday, June 4th, our WELCA women have been invited to a salad luncheon @ Peace Lutheran Pigeon Falls@ 12 Noon. The program is Harry & Company, a music & puppets family ministry. Call (715) 983-2242 to RSVP. Our next General Meeting will be Wednesday, August 5, at 1:30pm. The Program will be "The Living Colors of Fall". We will also be holding elections. Along with other Officers, we really do need a Vice President this year, so I hope you are listening to God's Voice when it Calls you. You all know what happened to Jonah when he didn't listen! Jeanette Berg will be putting out information soon in the bulletins about the September bus trip to Chanhassen dinner- theater. The date is Wednesday, September 9, 2015, and the musical is "Mary Poppins". As soon as the prices are firm, she can start to publicize it more and you'll know when the tickets are for sale. It's a great experience! I would like to extend a big Thank You to the women of Serving Groups 2 & 11, who served for the Confirmation Banquet; as well as to Groups 1, 5, 6, & 7, who served together at Emily Franson's funeral; and finally to Groups 12 & 13, who served at Fred Enger's funeral. All of this happened just in May!! I think it's time we started acknowledging just how many women (not to mention their supporting families) who support a funeral or church event. Every time I call a Serving Group, it means they (3 workers plus 3 cakes and 3 jellos) are serving at least 50 people. That means that they are the face of Christ to those people, helping them in their time of need. They are putting a human, caring touch to what would seem to be a simple robotic task of making and serving that food. All of the families we have served have returned and thanked me (some even in writing) - for the food - and for the thoughtfulness of the Servers. I, for one, am unexpectedly impressed by the feedback. Truly this is one way we are the hands and feet (and even faces) of Christ to this World. This month, we give thanks for the lives of Emily Franson, and Donna Skahoug, two long-time members of ILC. May God comfort their families and welcome each of them gently home. Something new this year will be a WELCA sponsored American Red Cross Blood Drive Saturday, July 25 from 10am to 4pm. It will be held downstairs in the Parish/Fellowship Hall. Look for more information, coming soon in your June, Sunday Bulletins.
