Busy Cast Prepares

Rehearsals for ACT’s upcoming pro-duction of Oliver! are well underway, and the cast is eagerly learning music and blocking in preparation for the show’s opening in July.

Meet the Cast

We are very excited to welcome Bill Allman, Professor Emeritus from Baldwin-Wallace College and long-time director of Berea Summer The-atre, to our cast. Bill will play the part of Mr. Brownlow.

ACT Music Director Paula Donoian will sing and play the role of Mrs. Bedwin. Bob Peyak, whom audiences will remember as John Hancock in 1776, will assume the role of Fagin. The part of Oliver will be played by Jake Ulmer. Tiffany Carty will play Nancy.

Four members of the League family, veterans of many former ACT shows,

will perform in the production. Jeff League, Sr. will be Mr. Bumble, Jeff League, Jr. will be The Artful Dodger, Katie League will play Bet and Lissie League will be a milkmaid.

ACT board members who are in the show are Denise Daugherty, who will play Widow Corney, and Ken Cham-ers who will be Bill Sykes. New to our stage is David Rousculp, who will play Mr. Sowerberry.

Other cast members are Lila Robin-son as Lady; Carl Fern as the Night Watchman; Allan Robinson as Chair-man; Brittany Bates as Rose Seller; Charles Bates as Jonathan Noggle; and Pat Senkar as Mrs. Sowerberry

Workhouse orphans will be played by Thomas Rousculp, Colin Ulmer, Jonathan Noggle, David Grant, Ai-mee Budzinski, Emily Guyor, Rebecca Katona, and Remy Yovanno.

Fagin’s Boys and other chorus mem-bers include Michael Robinson, Kenneth Robinson, Kerri Budzinski,

The Apple Bin Restaurant at Maple-side Farms in Brunswick became the old western mining town of Cactus Gulch, Arizona when Brunswick ACT presented Death in Them Thar Hills, a hilarious murder mystery dinner the-atre production on Saturday, May 6.

The evening started when dinner guests arrived and were welcomed to Cactus Gulch by civil war hero and town mayor Beauregard T. Brady, played by Shawn Skeabeck. Guests were then introduced to an entertain-ing cast of major characters, Indian chiefs, blacksmiths, sharpshooters, and saloon owners played by Sue Muniak, Bonnie Nelson, Linda Eys-sen Loveless, Sam Boyer, Walter Hay, Julie Zabkar, Karen Barrett, Sue and Steve Hambley, Lee Marra and others.

Finally, the town’s wealthy gold miner, Dusty Jones, played by Chuck Poliafi-

co, went to the podium to respond to the “suspects.” Going to great lengths to leave a few clues as to which of the western townpeople might have something to gain by his demise, he then went to his reward following a hearty swig of tequila.

The dinner guests settled into a won-derful dinner of roast pork, chick-en, side dishes

and salads, finished

with Mapleside’s signature apple

dumpling dessert, and eagerly discussed the clues

left by Dusty.

After dinner, Marshall Nate Dillman, played by ACT Board President Bob Kenderes, took charge of the investi-

gation. The marshall “deputized” all the dinner guests and helped them interrogate the suspects. Some din-ner guests, who had been given clues upon arrival, shared their clues and exchanged information with other guests in an effort to solve the murder. Each table of dinner guests summa-rized their solution to the mystery

as to suspects, motive, and method, then provided their findings to the Marshall. As each table’s solution to the mystery was read, even the

suspects were surprised to discover the ending.

We won’t reveal who really murdered Dusty, but we can reveal that doz-ens of guests enjoyed a wonderful, fun-filled evening at the scene of the crime, and that the dinner, drinks, and diversions of Death In Them Thar Hills won’t soon be forgotten. Be sure to check ACT’s website for our next production.

Death in Them Thar Hills - A Shoot ’em up Good Time!

There’s a lot going on with Bruns-wick Art Works, the new group in town which was created by Rosemary Mihacevich to help beautify the com-munity and encourage activities in the arts.

At its May meeting, The Medina County Arts Council recently award-ed the group a $300 grant which the group plans to use for its organiza-tional expenses.

The May meeting of Arts Works fea-tured the unveiling of the group’s new logo, which was designed by Bruns-wick resident Glenn Somodi. Glenn, who won the group’s logo design contest, attended the meeting in order to discuss the logo and present several logo formats for use on banners, let-terhead, posters, etc.

Although Brunswick Art Works is just starting out, the group is already busy making plans to participate in vari-ous community activities during the month of June. The group will have a booth at the upcoming art show, Art on the Farm, tentatively scheduled for the weekend of June 17,18,19. Exact days are still being determined. This is a good opportunity for anyone interested in joining the group to get acquainted with the organization and get membership information.

The group will also participate in the Brunswick Old Fashioned Days Parade on June 26. Brunswick Art Works Members will be designing and holding umbrellas depicting various types of art works. Anyone interested in either making an umbrella, carry-

ing one, or doing both should contact Amanda Destro at 330-225-8200.

Interested in becoming a member? Gina Tabasso, who is collecting membership dues for Brunswick Art Works, says that dues can either be paid at the next meeting or mailed to P.O. Box 668, Brunswick OH 44212. Make checks payable to: Medina County Arts Council. Dues are $25 for individuals/family and $10 for students.

Art Works will meet on the first Wednesday of each month, including during the summer, at 7:30 p.m. at Brunswick City Hall. These meetings will focus on ideas for future events. For more information on Bruns-wick Art Works, contact Rosemary Mihacevich at [email protected]
