The Promise... Pentecost has arrived, following the Ascension of our Lord, when Christ’s Pas-chal Mystery was brought to completion and the promise of the Holy Spirit Jesus spoke of was fulfilled. A promise that all of us who believe and follow Christ can receive. In Ezekiel 36:26-28 we are told, “I will give you a new heart and place a new spirit within you, taking from your bodies your stony hearts and giv-ing you natural hearts. I will put my Spirit within you and make you a live by my statutes, careful to observe my decrees. You shall live in the land I gave your fathers you shall be my people, and I will be your God.” With a new heart the Holy Spirit enables us to experience the fruits of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Jesus said, “And I tell you, ask and you will receive: seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For anyone who asks receives and anyone who seeks finds and the one who knocks the door will be opened.” God did not ask us to pray if he didn’t want to work through our prayers. He wants us to be filled with the Holy Spirit and to experience the gifts of the Holy Spirit. So with zeal and boldness, ask and allow the Lord to renew you. Begin with confessing your sins and asking for Gods mercy and forgiveness. Do this daily to draw close to Christ and to encounter Him in your daily life. Pray to the Holy Spirit who is life. St. Augustine’s Prayer to the Holy Spirit: Breathe in me O Holy Spir it, that my thoughts may all be holy. Act in me O Holy Spirit, that my work, too, may be holy. Draw my heart, O Holy Spirit, that I love but what is holy. Strengthen me O Holy Spirit to defend all that is holy. Guard me then O Holy Spirit, that I

always may be holy. May the Lord bless you in your prayer life and your efforts to grow closer to him on this journey. Your Sister in Christ, Kim Lehman Faith Formation and Communications C 515.202.2517 [email protected]

From Msgr. Frank Chiodo

Dear Friends,

Mark your calendars for our annual Corpus Christi celebration on Sun. June 23rd starting at

11:00AM with Mass at the grotto. This year we have invited Christ the King parish to join us to

celebrate our faith in the Holy Eucharist. Christ the King is a daughter parish, founded from our

parish in 1949. This year’s procession brings us back together to celebrate our common faith—

-as a southside family. After the procession there will be a lunch provided. We look forward to

our day together. Thanks to all our organizers of the yearly event. Consider bringing a lawn

chair, since there will be a limited number of provided seats.

Have a Blessed week.
