LIBRARY

CONSTRUCTION

As you may recall the library held a ground-breaking ceremony for a 3,000 square ft. addition to our facility last May. Well the time has come to build! So we ask for your patience and understanding as we begin the expansion/renovation project in just a few weeks.

We want to thank Mayor Klein and the City of Burbank officials, as well as the Burbank Park District Board of Trustees for the inter-governmental cooperation we’ve received in preparation for this project. It was very much appreciated. It should also be noted that this project was part of the library’s strategic/long range plan. Anticipating this construction effort the library’s Board of Trustees saved the necessary funds to cover the costs.

What are we building? We are keeping the ‘open plan’ concept that the library has had since the initial building was erected on our site in 1977. The current Board Room, which originally was the youth services program room, will be torn down and relocat-ed to the front of the building. More storage is needed in our facility and that too will be located in the front portion of the facili-ty allowing for easier delivery of materials and/or furnishings. A room for sorting materials and holding our book carts will be added, as well as a closet for our meeting rooms. The additional space will also allow us to expand the adult department.

The library’s new Board Room will be dedicated in memory of our former Trustee President James V. Rokaitis. Jim served as a library Trustee for 24 years and was an instrumental figure in the history of Burbank having served also as Assistant Superinten-dent and Teacher in District 111, as an Alderman for the City of Burbank, President of the Reavis School Board, President of the Lions Club and more.

Even though we will be under construction, we’re planning a great summer reading program and look forward to seeing adults, young adults and youngsters participate in this no cost effort. There will be lots of programs, prizes, reading incentives and fun! So continue to visit us during the construction – we’ll be here ready to serve you.

New Board of Trustees Following the April elections the library’s Board of Trustees elected

new officers and committee representatives. They are as follows:

President Anita M. Byrne Ex Officio – All Committee

Vice President Claudia Robuck Policy Committee

Secretary Diana E. Shields Personnel Committee

Treasurer Ann M. Trovato Policy Committee

Trustee Scott Batzel Building Committee

Trustee Michael Valerio Building Committee

Trustee David Viverito Personnel Committee

The library Trustees and staff wish to congratulate President Byrne on 20 years of service as a Board member.
