Fr. Ron’s Corner….
“I will take the cup of salvation, and call on the name of the Lord.” Psalm 116 This weekend we celebrate The Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ. Like last week’s feast of the Most Holy Trinity, we are invited with renewed intention and purpose to acknowledge and appreciate the great gift that the Eucharist is to us. Christ is really present in His Body and Blood, food that we take and eat and bring into the world with us, glorifying the Lord by our lives.
Last week, our office administrator Cara Gallagher informed me that she will be leaving St. Joseph Parish. She has decided to work at another Catholic Parish that is a little less busy than ours. Cara has been here for over two and half years and has done an amazing job managing the many tasks that keep our parish running smoothly. I know I will miss her very much. She will be around helping at the carnival, so you will get a chance to say goodbye to her. Because of her departure, along with Fr. Dan’s new assignment at St. John Medical Center in Westlake as their new Catholic Chaplin, I will be reducing the bulletin size for the summer. There are fewer activities happening in the summer (especially in July) and the need for all of our current content pages is not necessary.
We have been considering for some months now dividing up the parish office administrator into two positions: 1) Reception and phone and 2) A communications and events director. The director’s job would be to manage the bulletin, webpage, Facebook, parish-wide emails, managing the parish’s and my calendar, events and volunteers. We are told that new parishioners first visit our website and Facebook pages to “see” what a parish is like before even stepping foot on our parish grounds. It is a lot of work to manage all of these tasks while still cheerfully greeting guests and parishioners by phone or who come to the door. Jim Armour will be assisting me in the process of developing these new roles to support our parish mission and ministry.
As we transition from another end of the school year into summer, I want to congratulate all of our graduates. Our parishioners do amazing things and impact the world for the better because of the faith that was nurtured in them at the parish. Keeping Holy the Lord’s Day, by attending mass weekly, is not a school year activity, but a lifetime one. Please take time each week to receive the Body and Blood of Jesus. We need to be spiritually fed so we can be the presence of Christ in the world.
Please remember to attend and volunteer for the Carnival and Music Festival. Sign up online during the week and in the gathering area on the weekends. Last year we made $35,000 to help support our parish ministry and facilities. Everyone benefits from our carnival! Please help make it a success through your prayers and participation. Remember the event is open to EVERYONE!
May God bless you! I love being your pastor.
Fr. Ron

Looking for some quiet time? Need a break from your iPad, iPhone, computer, the internet or just the busyness of life? Jesus is looking for a FEW good people who would like to spend a quiet hour with him in the Sacred Heart Chapel. It might be just the break you need! P.S. No electronics allowed.
Eucharistic Adoration takes place in Our Sacred Heart Chapel on Tuesdays from 8 am - 8 pm and on First Fridays from 9 am to Saturday 9 am. We are urgently in need of Eucharistic Adorers on Tuesdays 2-3 pm and First Fridays from 11 am - 12 noon; 4 - 5 pm; 5 - 6 pm; 7- 8 pm; and Saturdays from 5 - 6 am. If you can fill a time slot, please call Barb or Chuck at 933-8983.
Please remember:
You can visit the Sacred Heart Chapel anytime even when adoration is not scheduled! Just slide open the tabernacle doors and close them when you leave.
2018 Quest Corporate Sponsors
On May 24th, St. Joseph Parish School students had the opportunity to participate in “Quest.” Quest is a combination of our annual Walk-a-Thon and Rock-the-Challenge events. Once again, it was another huge success! We focused on incorporating Faith and Fitness into our lives and dedicated our efforts to this year’s theme “Family Matters.”
Special thanks to Coach Theo (FMU Fitness) and Coach Dan (Fitness Revolution) for leading the students throughout the day and to DJ, Steve Kemer (DJaybird Entertainment), for keeping the energy flowing throughout our event.
Stay tuned for details for next school year as we continue our "Quest for His Best" at St. Joseph Parish School.

Mass Intentions for the Week of June 3, 2018
Attention Parents of All Students Entering Grades 1-9:
Over the past three years since we have had our Parish Center and a venue for performance, we have grown our school drama club from a small musical celebration to the past two years of Broadway Junior performances of “The Music Man” and “Guys and Dolls.” This past year, we acquired a goal and a new name - Stage Right - which will forever recall that we accomplished our goal of opening the stage right side
of our performance platform, granting us a true backstage area and much more
versatility for our productions.
This coming year, we are taking a new step towards STAGE RIGHT being an entire Parish organization. For our spring play in May 2019, we invite all students in the Parish who are entering grades 1-9 in any school, or home-schooled, to participate in “Finian’s Rainbow, Jr.” Auditions will be held on August 24 after school, and all rehearsals will be held on Fridays after school on a schedule to be determined and distributed in August. Children in grades 1-4 will belong to the Chorus for the show, and students in grades 5-9 may audition for speaking, singing and dancing roles.
Registration forms for all those who would like to participate are in place on the counter in the Gathering Area and must be turned into the Parish Office NO LATER THAN JUNE 15 in order to become part of our email list. This will allow us to provide you with character descriptions and additional information as we move through the summer
weeks and also to order t-shirts that will be distributed at the first rehearsal.
“Finian’s Rainbow, Jr.” performances will be May 9, 10, 11 at 6:30 pm, plus a 1 pm matinee on May 11, 2019.

As CYO previously announced, we are excited to announce that St. Joseph CYO will be sponsoring flag football this fall for students entering grades 1-3. For those of you who have participated in the “Knights of Columbus”/ USA football flag league, CYO is integrating that league into CYO. CYO is aligning their flag rules with the USA football NFL flag rules. CYO will schedule games on Saturday
mornings and the intent is to play games at St. Bernadette, Knights of Columbus field, and other westside locations as needed. We will need coaches. Please volunteer if you can. If you are participating, please do not wait to register. Please register your child for the grade he/she will be in next fall. Registration is open and will close June 15 for the following fall sports: Flag football (grades 1-3); Rookie tackle football (grades 4-5); 11 man tackle football (grades 6,7,8); Girls' volleyball (grades 3-8). Even if your child has previously played football at another school, you must register at SJS first. All students of SJS are automatically eligible to participate, as well as parishioners active in the PSR program. Other students may be eligible if approved by CYO. Click on the link to register: https://isis.sportspilot.com/register/. Contact Erin Hess at [email protected] or Greg Mueller at [email protected] with questions.
