“Lord Jesus, Make my heart like unto thine…”
On Friday, June 19
th
, the Feast of the Sacred Heart,
we gathered virtually with our Bishop for a Holy
Hour streamed from the Cathedral in
Winona. During the Holy Hour, the Bishop asked
all of us priests to renew our commitment to the
priesthood. This yearly renewal of vows usually
happens during the Chrism Mass but this year because
of the virus, we were not abler to gather. Never-
theless, Bishop Quinn decided to do so on the Feast
of the Sacred Heart and it was very timely for my
own heart these days. Pope Francis told a group of
Franciscan Sisters who met with him: “Is Jesus really
your first love, as we promised he would be when we
professed our vows? Only if he is, will we be em-
powered to love, in truth and mercy, every person
who crosses our path. For we will have learned from
Jesus the meaning and practice of love. We will be
able to love because we have his own heart.”
We are challenged in our faith to make Christ’s heart
our own. These days, the need is greater than I think
we realize. We have all become “poor” in many
ways throughout this pandemic. However, it is in
our poverty where and when Jesus, the Sacred Heart,
works the best through us. God always chooses the
weak in the world. God chooses a little piece of
bread to become His true presence in the Eucha-
rist. He chooses a poor, little, ordinary girl to bear
Christ. He chooses me, an alcoholic, you with your
particular weakness, to be his heart for the
world. God’s ways are unfathomable. Someday
we’ll find out why but for now, let us be content to
let God use us in our poverty, insufficiency.
The pandemic has caused us to pause and consider
that we are not as independent and as in control as
we once thought. Perhaps in our prayer we may
consider our own poverty and weakness in a new
light and allow the Sacred Heart of Jesus to become
our own as God calls us to new ways of being His
Son’s very heart to a wounded world. “Lord Jesus,
make my heart like unto thine.”
THANK YOU TO OUR PARISH MASK
MAKERS
A huge thank you to all the ladies who
made masks for their fellow parishioners.
We have many talented seamstresses!
The masks are beautiful and superb; both
for women and men. Presently, we have
plenty of masks, so ladies, you can take a
break from sewing them. As the pandemic
goes on, if we run short, I may contact you
again, but right now we have plenty
Thank you ladies! Betty

Worthington Deanery COVID Relief Fund
The southwestern corner of Minnesota has been hard
hit by the COVID outbreak. Nobles County (the
Worthington area) has had the largest number of
COVID cases per population in the state, and many of
the people most affected do not qualify for govern-
ment assistance. As we continue to assess the needs of
the people in our area who have been affected by the
COVID outbreak, Catholic Charities of Southern MN
has started a “Worthington Deanery COVID Relief
Fund”. This fund is helping people in this area (the
counties of Rock, Pipestone, Nobles, Murray, Jackson
and Cottonwood) who have reduced income (lost
employment or reduced hours) because of the COVID
outbreak, and do not qualify for other means of
assistance (unemployment, stimulus money, etc.). We
will help those who have “fallen through the cracks”
with rent or utilities up to $500. This fund is current-
ly supported solely by donations. If you would like to
help, donations can be mailed to:
Catholic Charities of Southern MN
111 Market Street, Suite #2
PO Box 739
Winona, MN 55987
Checks should be made payable to “Catholic
Charities” but it is very important to designate your
gift by writing “Worthington COVID Relief” in the
memo line of the check.

VBS WEEK ONE: VIRTUE OF CHARITY
Vacation Bible School 2020 kicked off with a
ZOOM!
It's been a strange but fun adventure this week as
we started our at-home version with activity
packs delivered to homes, our first zoom meeting
with 50+ youngsters from St. Pius X and St. John
the Evangelist parishes. We loved seeing many of
our youngsters, digging into this week's virtue -
charity by reading the parable of the Good
Samaritan, playing games, dancing to the music,
learning our memory verse of the week and
praying together. This is only the tip of the
iceberg for our
friends as they
continue to dive
into the theme
with their fami-
lies at home
with art pro-
jects, service
work, and
more. We love being able to partner with these
domestic churches all over our Rochester area!
Here is just a tiny glimpse into our first day of
our 4-week VBS!
