General Manager’s Comments for June 2016
Thank you to all the members who attended the Club’s Annual General Meeting. For those
who were unable to attend, I am pleased to advise that the Club has had another successful
year of trading as reported in the Annual Report. If you would like a copy please don’t
hesitate to pop by admin. Once again thank you to everyone who has attributed to this profit.
Special thanks to my staff for their commitment and exceptional work ethics that make my
job so much easier.
Also congratulations to Graeme Roberts on being awarded Club Person of the Year, always on
hand and a phone call away. Thanks also to the many other volunteers our Club has, in all
areas of the Club, we are very proud of you all.
Congratulations also on two returning Board Members, Ray Cooknell and Gerard Monro,
along with Ewan Rogers returning to our Board of Management. I look forward to the year
ahead.
New mobile staging has been purchased for the function room, due for delivery this week,
this will replace the staging which is becoming an OH&S issue for people having to move it
around the building. We have also purchased 200 chair covers, which can be hired out for
weddings or special occasions, along with skirting for our bridal and event tables. Early next
week we should also have delivered our new Photocopier. The current copier’s lease has
ceased and we have decided to purchase this copier outright.
To all of our members that are travelling to a warmer climate (must say I envy you), travel
safe, rest up, slip slop slap and we will see you back soon ready for the next bowls season.

Another few bowls Questions
1 In a singles match the jack is rolled and appeared likely to enter the front ditch had it not hit the
foot of the marker. The opponent claims the right to roll the jack.
Is the opponent correct????
2 The lead in team A delivers the jack which passes the 2 metre mark. Before it comes to rest Skip A
picks it up assuming that it will not reach the ditch and places it on the 2 metre mark. Skip B
objects.
What should happen now????
3 A player in team A is called on to put in a short blocker. Skip B believes that the bowl is too short
and calls for the umpire. On measuring the umpire finds that the bowl is 14.1metres away from
the mat line.
What is the position?
Cheers,
Sally Madden

FEEDBACK FROM OUR MEMBERS
A Suggestions Box is located at reception. The Board and
Management are open to any comments or suggestions
that members have. If any member has a suggestion,
comment, are disgruntled, or even a compliment, our
General Manager Julie Dosser is more than happy to hear
from you.
Chairman’s Report
The 2015/2016 City Memorial Bowls Club AGM held on the evening of Tuesday 31st May, was
well attended with 70 Members present to receive the Annual Report of the club’s operations for
the past financial year and to participate in the election of Directors for 3 of the vacant Board
positions.
It was good to see that 5 candidates were prepared to put themselves forward to take on a
responsible role of being involved in the future direction of our great club. The election result saw
Gerard Monro, Ray Cooknell and Ewan Rogers being elected for the ensuing 2 years. On behalf of
the members, I would like to commend both Heather Jensen and Barbara Bibby for their
willingness to be prepared to serve on the Board, albeit that they were unsuccessful on this
occasion.
The respective new Board Director roles were determined in a meeting immediately following on
from the AGM with myself as Chairman and Director of Bowls, immediate Past Chairman Alan
Marsh is Vice Chairman and Director for Business and Marketing, Michael McCluskey as Finance
Director, Ewan Rogers as Director of Corporate Governance, Ray Cooknell as Director for Gaming
and Gerard Monro Director for Grounds, Building and Property.
I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge Alan Marsh’s leadership as Chairman for the
past year and I will no doubt value his support in the current year.
The newly constituted Board will have its’ first official monthly meeting on Friday 24th June at
11.30a.m.
Gerald Madden
CMBC Board Chairman
Men's President's Report
Not a lot to report this month, but, as President of the Men's section of CMBC, I would like to take
this opportunity to congratulate our General Manager Julie and the Board on the great financial
result the club has achieved over the last year.
As you are all aware Saturday Pennant is an open competition, as a result the selection committee
would appreciate if all members could indicate on the form on the notice board, their intention to
play as soon as possible, so that the selection committee can start discussing the make up of the
pennant sides.
John Emerson, our Regional Bowls Australia representative attended our bowls executive meeting
last week. John is willing to help us in any way he can.
The Open Winter Pairs Medley starts this weekend and I would like to thank and congratulate
Ted Butler on the great job he has done in achieving his goal of 64 teams. That is a mighty effort,
well done Ted. I hope the weather is kind over the next 2 weekends.
Ros and I will be away for the next 2 months, so good bowling to those members staying home
this winter and safe travelling to those members going on holiday.
Bruce Collie - Men's President
