HOME NEWS HERE.COM TOWN CRIER - WEDNESDAY, JUNE 12, 2019 7 ECDL Shawsheen Tech Class of ongratulations V V Shawsheen grads told to ‘make something happen’ Good evening to the staff, families, friends, and the class of 2019. As my dad has always said to me, “If you want some- thing to happen, you have to make it happen” As a kid, I brushed off this piece of advice, because all I really wanted to do was watch the newest episode of Hannah Montana. But the phrase certainly wasn’t what I had in mind as I donned that “Keep Calm and Be Cool” T-shirt on our first day of high school. Yet over the years, I have found these words to be true. What my dad meant was that life’s too short to wait for opportunities to come along and arrive at your doorstep. You have to create them with the drive you find in yourself. These four years of high school at Shawsheen have already given us a jumpstart to the endless opportunities that await us. If each of us tap into that drive, we are all capable of doing incredible things. In front of me, I see doctors, dentists, CEOs, chefs, illustrators, carpenters, elec- tricians, engineers... After these four years, it’s now time to show the world what we’re capable of. Earning my spot as vale- dictorian was stressful. But, the experience I had here made it worth it. The Shaw- sheen experience is all about knowing that if you want something to happen you can make it happen: Like Dr. Kanellas’ repeti- tive speeches about the soph- O-mores scoring well on the MCAS, I repeat, soph-O- mores scoring well on MCAS, the soph-O-mores scoring well on MCAS. • Earning several champi- onship titles, all thanks to our determined coaches that saw potential in us that we never did • Finding ourselves a spot in a co-op job, where we would move on to continue learning our trade, giving us that opportunity to reach for our future success Discovering our passions in clubs, whether it be lead- ership from Skills USA, writ- ing in the newspaper, or go- ing for a hike with outdoor club. The Shawsheen experiences we’ve made for ourselves were also crafted by those that we are the most thank- ful for: The families that have sup- ported us along the way. Mom, dad, Lindsey, thank you for being my number one drive. And, of course, a sincere apology for staying up past 2 a.m. to cram in that last- minute shopweek homework. • Our teachers and school staff throughout our lives. We certainly wouldn’t be sitting here today without the knowl- edge they’ve provided us over all these years. A special thank you to retired Super- intendent, Charles Lyons, who has left an impact by molding this school into a place where we, and future graduates to come, can achieve such great success. And, of course, to Ms. Angela Caira, for teaching us to spread kindness to others. • The coaches that have pushed us to become a bet- ter version of ourselves. • The part-time jobs and kFROM LEFT: Michael Reppucci, Electricity, Tewksbury; Megan Brown, Health Assisting, Billerica (US Presidential Scholar); Samantha Moriconi, Medical Assisting, Billerica; Emily Morris, Dental Assisting, Billerica (Valedictorian); Christa Davis, IS Services & Networking, Tewksbury (Salutatorian) (photos: BruceHilliard.com) kEmily Morris, Dental Assisting, Billerica (Valedictorian) SHAWSHEEN | PAGE 10

vol unteer work we’ve done.I’d personally like to thankthe staff at the Boys and GirlsClub of Greater Biller ica foren couraging me to come outof my shell and inspire others.

• And the everlastingfriend ships we’ve made here.Especially my friends, who

deserve as much recognitionas I do. You motivated me todo my best while simultane-ously convincing me to blowoff work. Like that time I

went to a spontaneous sheepshearing festival before stu -dying for a final. But I stillmade it happen by learninghow to run on three hours ofsleep with the help of severalMonster energy drinks! A sincere thank you to Joe

Bova’s daily good morningand good night snapchat wis-dom and of course to the icon-ic pencil behind his ear healways let me borrow. Just aspecial thank you to you guysfor motivating and pushingme towards the success I’vealways strived for inside andoutside the classroom.Looking back now, at the

memories you’ve created, you’ll realize that your drivewas fueled by those whomean the most to you, thosewho you are the most thank-ful for. Hang on to those les-sons you’ve learned; they’llgive you that extra push toachieve what you wantthroughout your adulthood. And maybe you can use themto make an impact on some-one else someday. Maybe these weren’t the

best years of your life, andmaybe you didn’t take ad -vantage of every opportunity. That’s OK. Just take thisadvice for wherever you maygo next. And if that’s home towatch another epi sode ofHannah Montana, that’s OK,too, because “life’s what youmake it, so let’s make itrock.”We have our whole lives

ahead of us to make what wewant to happen, happen. Weall start somewhere, and it’sthe effort that you put intoday that will make you aneven stronger person tomor-

row, so make it count. To the class of 2019: Today is

the day that we enter a newchapter of our lives, a newadventure full of opportuni-ties that this unique schoolhas given us.So go, get out there, for this

is only the beginning. Theword “commencement” doesmean a “beginning or start”after all. So as we turn ourtassels and tear off those lan-yards, keep in mind that there

are millions of opportunitiesout there, and that YOU canmake things happen.I know all of you will in -

spire, you will discover, youwill create. If you want some-thing to happen, you can andyou will make it happen.Thank you and congratula-

tions again to the class of2019!
