A key element of our Comprehensive Plan Update process is the determination of land use, design, and transportation policies that will direct the development of the several large undeveloped tracts of land within the Village. The Envision Long Grove Public Workshop held on April 11th described in our April project update article was designed to assist the Village in better understanding the preferences, ideas, and concerns for the development of each of five sub-areas. The 5 sub-areas under consideration include: Midlothian Road Area bounded by Route 60, Midlothian Road and the EJ&E Railroad Route 22/Old McHenry Road “Triangle Area” (Historic Downtown) – bounded by IL Route 53, Old McHenry Road and the southeast edge of the commercially developed portion of downtown Sunset Grove/ Ballybunion bounded by Route 83, Arlington Heights Road and Briarcrest Subdivision Lake Cook Road/Route 53 bounded by Lake Cook Road, Old Hicks, Long Grove Road and the Village western boundary Highlighted considerations for these areas range from capitalizing on existing retail and expansion of downtown retail, expanding commercial and office uses, continued stewardship in protecting floodplains and wetlands, exploring new residential development, continued open space preservation and agricultural uses, incorporating farm-to-market uses, multi-family housing options, gateway development strategies, improved transportation interconnections including trails to … greenfield retail center development & exploring community meeting place development. TIME TO FIRE UP THE GRILL! There is nothing like cooking food outdoors on the barbeque grill. The smell permeates the air and the barbeque flavor is insanely delicious. With the start of summer - the season for grilling - you may want to take a few minutes to reacquaint yourself with some safety tips to avoid a potential disaster. Each year close to 9,000 home fires are caused by grilling, with an average of 10 deaths, 160 reported injuries, and $120 million in property damage. Why so many home fires? The leading factor is failure to clean the grill, followed by placing something flammable too

close to the grill, and leaving the grill unattended.

Propane and charcoal BBQ grills should only be used outdoors. Place the grill well away from the house, deck railings, and overhanging branches. Make sure children and pets are kept a safe distance away from the grill. While grilling, use long-handled tools to help keep your hands away from the heat and flames, and never wear loose clothing.

For a gas grill, make sure after each use the drip tray is cleaned. Regularly clean the cooking grates and the flame diffusers. On an annual basis, check that the gas

burners are in good working order - clean as needed. Check the major connection points between the propane tank hose and the regulator and cylinder, and where the hose connects to the burners. Check the tank hose for potential gas leaks. Transport, store and use the propane gas cylinder in an upright position.

For a charcoal grill, properly attach the ash catcher to the kettle grill. If you use a starter fluid, use only charcoal starter fluid. Never add charcoal fluid or any other flammable liquid to the fire. If after your done grilling you need to dispose of the coals, soak them in water to extinguish them and then dispose in a metal container. Otherwise, cover the grill and close the vents to extinguish the coals. Whatever coals are left can be used the next time you grill.

if you follow these grilling guidelines, you're sure to have a lip-smacking barbeque feast.
