What’s Coming Up Whitney Moss

Stockings for Military Families: In July we will again be making stockings for the soldiers. If you need the magic stocking directions there will be some copies available at the June meeting. I will also have a stocking pattern to trace if you bring your own muslin (I only have a few muslin pieces leftover from last year). Mystery Quilt: I hope you are keeping up! If not there is still time to catch up! I'm loving how my pieces are beginning to come together! Be sure to see me at the next meeting to get your next clue! Fundraising Andra Fifield

Quilts of Valor Cyndy Billmeyer

You may remember that at the May 19 guild meeting I talked about Mr. John Theobald, WWII veteran, whom I presented a Quilt of Valor to on May 18th. Mr. Theobald passed away yesterday (May 31). Thank you for your service and sacrifices, Sir. May you rest in peace. What a beautiful day! Thank you to 10 wonderful ladies who showed up at my house on May 31 for a 10am-3pm Quilts of Valor sew-in: Kathy Abba, Bonnie Heiberger, Rose Neal, Barb Manders, Patti Scheer, Steph Schwartz, Tammy Gassman, Gerri Vesely, Sherene Lochner, and Jackie Goodrich. We finished one Rail Fence top and made enough blocks to make a second rail fence top, as well as enough blocks to make an Anita's Arrowhead top. Conversation, kibitzing, teaching moments, fun, and food were the order of the day as well as “pedal to the metal” sewing. Bonnie is going to post pictures on facebook. The next QOV sew-in will be Saturday, July 12, from 10am-3pm at my home, 18836 Breezy Ridge, Dubuque IA. We discussed meeting June 28th, but after checking my calendar, I'll be out of town that day. So, July 12th is the next date. (Steph Schwartz, change the date on your phone). Lunch will be provided. Please RSVP so I know how many to prepare for. Contact me by email [email protected] or by phone 563-590-2923 to RSVP or for directions. Marilyn Rothenberger and I will be in Cedar Rapids on Saturday, June 7, doing a QOV ceremony for 12 Korean and Vietnam Veterans. Looking ahead, I am planning a QOV presentation mid-June for approx. 12 Veterans. Haven't worked out the details yet. And, QOV will have a rotunda show at the Carnegie Stout Library from Oct. 15 through Nov. 4th. There will be a Presentation ceremony on Sunday, November 2, honoring approx. 10 Veterans, depending on the number of QOVs I have available. Details later. Thank you all for all you do for Quilts of Valor.

Karen Cowell & Anita Wild

Thank you all SO VERY much for all your help with the quilt show. I don't know how to tell you how much it meant to me to receive a standing ovation from you. I felt very humble and grateful and it made all the hard work worthwhile. THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART. I also received something else from the show. It was getting a chance to talk to a lot of guild members that I normally don't get an opportunity to visit with. What an unexpected bonus. Would all committee members that have not returned their show books and reports to me please do so at the June meeting. I would like to be able to gather the information and organize it for the "new" 2016 Quilt Show chair person. We should be able to share the final figures with you at the June meeting. I am working with the fair grounds staff to set our 2016 quilt show dates and will let you know in June. The show was a success again because of all your hard work. I have heard nothing but great comments from people who attended the show. Way to go ladies!
