MIAMI--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Georgian American Alloys, Inc., the parent company of Felman Production LLC, CC Metals and Alloys, LLC, Felman Trading, Inc. and Geor-gian Manganese, LLC, today announced that it has reduced production of silicomanganese at its Georgian based operations for an indefinite period of time. Georgian Manganese, LLC, a lea-ding producer and exporter of silicomanganese to the United States, has idled one of its electric arc furnaces at its Zestafoni Ferroalloy Plant, effective June 1, 2014.

“The planned shutdown reflects a conti-nuation of our strategy to improve production methods and modernize equipment to increase operational efficiency and enhance our competi-tive position over the long-term”.

The extended idle period will allow for Georgian Manganese to commence planned upgrades to the furnace aimed at increasing its efficiency. The shutdown will reduce Georgian Manganese’s production of silicomanganese by approximately 2,500 tons per month.

“The planned shutdown reflects a conti-nuation of our strategy to improve production methods and modernize equipment to increase operational efficiency and enhance our compe-titive position over the long-term,” said Velvel Lozynskyy, Director of Georgian Manganese.

Georgian Manganese’s Zestafoni Ferroalloy Plant produces approximately 180,000 metric tons of silicomanganese annually. As an indirect, wholly-owned subsidiary of Miami, Florida-based Georgian American Alloys, Inc. (“GAA”), Georgian Manganese’s product is sold interna-tionally via the extensive distribution network of sister company Felman Trading, Inc.

It is a well-known fact that in the process of cons-tructing the Saint Mary’s Icon of Iveria largest cathe-dral and monastery complex on Mount Makhata, every citizen is willing to help and participate as far as they are able to do. The cathedral construction has been blessed by the spiritual leader of all Georgians, Ilia II, who is Catholicos-Patriarch of Georgia.

The issue was not solved since the Infrastructure Service of Zesta-poni Municipality could not assign necessary funds to install a new brid-ge; what’s more, idle reconstruction work caused more irritation especially when the river flooded and damaged

the bridge so that it was dangerous to move on it.

Just when the population of a vi-llage Kvaliti and Kvaliti settlement had no way but to use a byroad, Ferro-Alloy Plant found the technical resour-ces to help them.

To satisfy the villagers needs, the

chief engineer of the Plant, Vaso Gve-lesiani got involved into this matter. He accidentally heard about the villa-gers’ concern and suggested the local authorities an alternative to replace a hazardous bridge.

When the bridge cranes with the

new automotive modulation were in-troduced into the Plant, old models were left without functioning and were unused in the production process. The cranes were still in the working con-dition and it was impossible to define them as old junk. It was decided that one part of its construction-a truss of a bridge crane would be used on the river Joboura to attach the new brid-ge construction. It was presented by the initiative of Vaso Gvelesiani from Ferro-Alloy Plant to the Infrastructure Service of Zestaponi Municipality.

The bridge which is 14 meters long and consists of two attached metal constructions, completely solved the problem of the villagers all along the river and the issue of the hazardous bridge is forgotten today. The heads of Infrastructure Service, the population of Kvaliti and Kvaliti settlement ex-press their gratitude towards the direc-tor of Ferro-Alloy Plant, Vasil Gerega and the Plant chief engineer Vaso Gve-lesiani, for the consideration and care which they demonstrated to them.

Rusudan Abashidze

With this system, the furnace ope-ration will be shifted onto the auto-matic and computerized regime and its operating cycle will completely be depended on the computer.

The engineers and technical staff of the Plant have never put the profitability of this sort of experiment under doubt; as the experience of Ukraine and Euro-pean metallurgical plants shows, auto-mated operational systems on the fur-nace brought the best results.

The initiator of introducing the experiment at the Ferro-Alloy Plant was the director Vasil Gerega. He in-vited the organization VEGAPLUS JSG representatives; the organi-zation is the founder of the newest metallurgical technologies and with its help they gave a new life to the furnace N2 of the workshop N1. Ex-

cept for the Ukrainian engineers, in the installation of this new system of operation were involved the emplo-yees of the electrical and metrology service of the Plant.

The automated system of furna-ce N2, which is conducted from the furnace operation shield sector at N1 workshop, will exclude to some extent a human’s labor in the technological process, with the optimal regime it

will regulate every nuance of the mel-ting process and what is the most im-portant, by considerably economizing electro energy, will increase the quan-tity of the produced product.

As the head of the workshop N1 notes, from N2 furnace the above-mentioned operation system will be

implemented in workshop N4 where the license to start work has already been ordered by the company manage-ment and in the nearest future Ferro-Alloy Plant will get one more moder-nized section.

Rusudan Abashidze

The installation of the automated operational system on N2 furnace of workshop N1, is one more factor to prove that the process of equipping the main production sections with modern technology at Ferro-Alloy Plant is an irreversible process.

Automated System - The New Stage of Modernization at Ferro-Alloy Plant

The hazardous condition of the bridge on the river Joboura, which connects a village Kvaliti with Kvaliti settlement, often created problems to the people especially during heavy rains. This was the reason why the Infrastructure Service of Zestaponi Municipality often got a letter on behalf of those who live on the both banks of the river. They were asking for the bridge to be repaired.

The Laboratory Equipped with New Technology Starts Operating for 24 Hours

The literary competition within the project of a teacher and journalist Roland Khojashvili was held in Chiatura; it was assisted and funded by the Holding “Geor-gian Manganese”. Mining- Enrichment complex’s assistance is significant as the genuine Georgian poetry and manganese processing is associated with the greatest poet, Akaki Tsereteli; he was also an entre-preneur who first mined manganese.

The number of contestants reached one hundred, out of one hundred poems, the best ten were selected for the final.

As it was planned by the project, the competition final was hosted by the fund “Modinakhe.”

The literary competition “Modinak-he” became more interesting as it turned into an international event-lots of emi-grants from different countries joined in and sent their poems.

The themes of the ten finalists’ poems are different-the participants express the ir worries, nostalgia, thoughts on the paper…

Roin Abuseridze still remembers the grief he got by the death of his Armenian friend in the war of August 2008 and his

poem “Nostalgia. Dakapo” expresses this pain.

Nino Modrekiladze’s “Ellipsis” is ad-vice for the most beautiful and gentle fe-eling-forgiveness with of one of the plot of Giorgi Leonidze’s “Wish Tree” at the background. It might be an inscription on this brilliant work.

Mariam Kozmanashvili’s poem “He is My Son” is mother’s soliloquy, co-ming out of her heart, she is well-aware

of her son’s virtues and vices and takes responsibilities herself.

The title of Manana Pruidze’s “I Wish I Could Leave” indicates that the poetess wants to escape from someone or some-thing to forget her sorrow and has found the place too-it’s in the mountains of Geor-gia.

In the youngest poet’s, Levan Pan ts-khava’s poem “Because of Lack of Ti-me” a man talks with the time, argues and feels that time and a human are con-siderably separated.

Tsiuri Meskhishvili’s poem “Mac ha-beli’s Accords”is sorrow for Samacha-blo which will take place in any Geor-goan poet’s poems until the territory is occupied in the country.

Jambul Gamtsemlidze’s “I have Mis-sed You” is full of feelings of the man who went through a lot of good and bad times and finally experienced the grea-test tragedy-his child’s death.

Mzia Tvalabeishvili joined the li-terary competition from Belgium and represented a very interesting, original portrait of a geisha. The poetess’s geisha seemed to be a hostess of this wonder-ful event and a fairy in wooden footwear and floating kimono brought inclination to the poetry-lover guests.

Manana Nebieridze’s poem is an ode to Gergeti Trinity church. It is a modest

outcry to the splendid cathedral in order to release worries, to beg the almighty to strengthen the motherland.

Rusudan Gogberashvili’s “Shuru-bumu” is a depiction of the transient life with the bright moon in the background, the specific time when soul and flesh de-part, which associates with the purity of soul and freedom. “Shuruburu” is a sam-ple of the boundless poetry from the phi-losophical point of view, the more one tries to perceive it, the deeper they sink. The poetess allows you to explain each line and you feel that she is awaiting for your reply, though she has left the key to wisdom with you. Rusudan sent the poem to the competition from Greece.

The literary competition selected three winners. The first place and 500 Lari pri-ze went to Manana Pruidze, the runner up and 300 Lari to Levan Pantskhava, and the third place and 200 Lari to Manana Koz-manashvili. The participants were awarded the prizes and the competition participant’s diplomas by Ms Maka Kvaratskhelia, the Head of the Public Relations Department at “Georgian Manganese”.

Within the literary competition pro-ject, “Modinakhe” sympathy prizes were given to Tsiuri Meskhishvili and Mzia Tvalabeishvili. Tsiuri will be presented with Akaki Tsereteli’s five-book volu-mes, and Mzia-Akaki’s- two volumes.

After the award ceremony, the com-petition organizer, Roland Khojashvili, thanked the management of “Georgian Manganese” for the financial support and expressed the hope that the compe-tition “Modinakhe” will become a tradi-tional event in Sachkhere.

At the end of the event, the partici-pants visited Akaki Tsereteli’s birthplace in Skhvitori, his house in the village of Savane and Paolo Iashvili’s house in Ar-gveta.

The following day, the first prize winner Ms Manana Pruidze transferred her prize, 500 Lari to the account of the charity organization “A Step to Chiatu-ra”. It was the first charity for the Disa-bled Children’s Day Centre.

While sharing his impressions, a foreign journalist visiting Georgia said-their kings are poets and poets are kings…It is not a secret that Geor-gia is a country of poetry. A lot of people write poems, caress their mother-land, sing to love, respond to everyday events of the country.

A new laboratory, equipped with the German state-of-the art Humana Diagnostic appliance, started operating at “Georgian Manganese” ‘s clinic “Ferro-med” in February 2014. The lab staff have taken a relevant retraining course; the qualified medical personnel conducts a 24-hour high tech-nology research.

Purchasing the mentioned equip-ment made it possible to carry out such researches as studying viruses (B and C hepatitis etc), oncological markers and hormonal studies.

It is to be noted that “Ferro-med” lab serves not only “Georgian Manga-nese” staff or Zestaponi population but those from Chiatura. At Chiatura “Fe-rro-med” branch called “Family Medi-cal Centre”, a laboratory conducts sim-ple researches but for high technology researches they get all necessary ma-terials which are later studied at Zes-

It is a well-known fact that in the process of constructing the Saint Mary’s Icon of Iveria largest cathedral and monastery complex on Mount Makhata, every citizen is willing to help and participate as far as they are able to do. The cathedral construction has been blessed by the spiritual leader of all Georgians, Ilia II, who is Catholicos-Patriarch of Georgia.

Mr. Paata Burchuladze Visits Ferro-Alloy Plant

Anything, what each of us donates for building the church and one more spiritual cradle, will be beneficial not only for strengthening the Georgian Orthodox church and our spiritual na-ture but for keeping the cultural inheri-tance and treasure. The project of the religious complex at Mount Makhata also includes the construction of the museum venue where unique icons

and donations, valuable objects and other religious items will be kept.

How to strengthen and support the genuine religion and what is the meaning of grace which each of us can sacrifice, was the topic of Mr Pa-ata Burchuladze’s talk when he visi-ted Zestaponi Ferro-Alloy Plant. His

mission to the plant employees was special-he introduced the details of the project of the largest church complex at Mount Makhata as well as the struc-ture of the work and what is the most important, he talked about the meaning of the physical and spiritual contribu-tion of the whole nation in construc-ting the church on Mount Makhata.

The principle and method of raising

money for building the church is fami-liar for each Georgian but Mr Burchu-ladze once more explained thoroughly the meaning of donation, as well as the rules how to complete a special appli-cation for donation and all necessary information.

The meeting was attended by the bishops of Argveta and Ubisa, His Grace Dimitri who focused his atten-

tion on the significance of bringing to Georgia Saint Mary of Iveria’s mira-cle-working icon from the monastery complex on Mount Atoni in Greece. He noted that the icon should be fina-lly placed on Mount Makhata, where one more spiritual cradle is being built.

His Grace Dimitri talked also about

the Georgians’ great desire to bring the miracle-working icon to the coun-try. He noted that the issues where to put the icon and how to create a spi-ritual atmosphere has been a topic of discussions not only among religious persons and soon the whole population of Georgia, united under one idea and desire will be able to fulfill it.

By request of David Chanturia, the

head of the Energy Service at “Geor-gian Manganese” who organized the meeting with the honorable guests, Mr Burchuladze talked about future plans

of the charity organization “Iavnana” , on behalf of which he warmly thanked Ferro-Alloy Plant administration for the multiple material support.

“Masha and Bear” Performance Was Attended by More Than 2000 Kids!..

The play, staged by the theatrical troupe “Multi-Pulti,” was organized for the kids of Chiatura Mining and Enrichment Complex employees at Chiatura State Theatre, and for Zesta-foni Ferro-Alloy Plant staff members’ kids- at Zestaponi State Theatre.

Children were happy with the play. Most of all they were impressed by the truly original scenography, cheer-ful characters and their costumes, which were brightly colored in order to turn kids buoyant.

There were held two plays in each town. More than 2000 kids attended

this beautiful event. The youngsters commented that they had been loo-king forward to watching “Masha and Bear” but as it is not very affordable for them to go to the capital and at-tend the play there, they had not been able to do so.

Those children who were not able to independently visit the theatre, were accompanied by their parents. They thanked the management of “Georgian Manganese” for the day which their kids spent in a pleasant atmosphere.

pendent school “Ornati”, Tea Nebierize-are really happy with their older son’s success and attitude to painting. They are pleasantly surprised at Aleksi’s ar-tistic talent and note that nobody among their ancestors was inspired by painting. Their surprise became even stronger when they found out that their younger son, Data Svanidze is as taken by pain-

ting as Aleksi, he takes lessons with the same teacher. There is a two-year age difference between the brothers. The younger brother has more educational advantages in the family, besides his tea-cher, now Data is able to get recommen-dations from his older brother and he is happy to be praised by both, his brother and the teacher.

Together with the Ministry diploma, Aleksi got a 250-Lari voucher to buy all necessary stuff and tools for painting. He chose everything himself at Kutai-si “Orgservice” chain store: gouaches, different sizes of drawing paper, wa-ter colours, a variety of brushes, acryl paints to create his best works but he is particularly happy by buying an easel. Working on it gives Aleksi a real sense of a painter.

Being a very ambitious youth, Aleksi has interesting plans. He reads a lot about the famous artists, sculptures, architects. He is eager to develop his knowledge in art not only into one direction. Talking to us, he reveals erudition in painting gen-res and movements which is surprising

The little boy’s painting depicts a lar-ge house-a symbol of European family, and each window represents the arms of EU country members, among them, the-re is the Georgia’s arm, indicating the fu-ture, the European way. The original and optimistic view and attitude of today and future attracted the competition judges’ attention and in the center of the atten-tion there was the young painter himself.

When the day came to summarize the competition results, among 120 works from six regions of Georgia, the judges announced the best and awarded the first place to the painting made in gouache “The Way to Europe” by Aleksi Svani-dze from Zestaponi .

When Aleksi was invited to the ce-remony at the Ministry hall of columns, only then did he realize his paramount responsibility to his school, town and pa-rents but he didn’t get confused by this feeling, conversely, he found more cou-rage in himself. The competition diplo-ma which he got from the ministry Mrs Tamar Sanikidze, is considered as the family relic and holds the distinguished place in the room interior.

“The Way to Europe” didn’t happen to be just an encouragement for the young painter. After the competition Aleksi has decided to become a painter and work hard to reach his goal.

His teacher, a decorative-painter Ms Nana Kovziridze assists him in it. It has been three years since Aleksi took a painting course with Nana and as he says, he deepens his knowledge at each lesson.

Drafts, still lifes, landscapes and sket-ches of different genres and forms which he has created until now has a kid’s way of painting, though his greatest desire and talent excites the viewers immediately. Aleksi likes working in pencil as well as in gouache and acryl. He hasn’t tried oil paints yet, but he is looking forward to the time when his teacher allows and gives him a task to work on the canvas. It is a matter of future, but important is the fact that Aleksi has firmly decided to become an artist.

Everything started with the painting competition -“The Way to Europe” -announced by the Mi-nistry of Education and Science of Georgia. The participants were schoolchildren of public and private schools. This school year was not an ex-ception. The head of the organiza-tion, Rusudan Mumladze addressed the management of “Georgian Man-ganese” in a written form to assist the orphans and homeless children finan-cially and fund their summer holiday packet at one of the hotels in a resort in Adjara.

The head of the company respon-ded to this request and bought a two-week packet holiday in one of the private hotels in Kobuleti for twenty

kids of “Life Guide”. They will be provided with three-meal courses and entertainment-particularly, they will visit Batumi botanical garden,

watch a show at Batumi Dolphina-rium, visit the ethnographical mu-seum etc.

Although the non-governmental organization has always had many patrons and helpers, the orphans’ main guardian still remains Zesta-poni Ferro-Alloy Plant, which takes responsibility to support its young beneficiaries, even minimally com-pensate the lack of attention, care and support which they face.

Because of such attention and other supports to the small chil-dren of “Life Guide”, Ms Rusudan Mumladze publically thanks to all and each who helped the organiza-tion and enabled the kids to make their life happier during the summer holidays.

taponi lab; the results are sent back to Chiatura laboratory. Consequently, the “Georgian Manganese” staff in Chia-tura do not have to go to Zestaponi and incur extra expenses.

As Maia Makharashvili, the head of Health Care and Insurance Department explains, lab diagnostics direction has been developed protecting the country regulations and the lab diagnostics stan-dards.

The allotted space for different diag-

Pg. 3 nostic directions has been divided, done up and equipped according to modern standards. To properly administer the lab diagnostics, to take and collect all necessary materials for the diagnostics, separate space was marked out. The pro-

cedures for marking, case registering and analyzing have been implemented.

“In February 2014 we bought ad-vanced German Humana Diagnostic equipment for clinical, biochemical and immune-serological directions. The lab staff, doctors and laboratory assistants

were retrained. The proper work of the qualified staff members and high-stan-dard equipment, of course, is reflected on the accuracy of the results trust to the laboratory has increased and both pa-tients and doctors are happy”, says Maia Makharashvili.

The laboratory shifted to a 24-hour schedule in June. The decision was made by the manager for in-patient and emergency treatment, for conducting lab researches operatively and without a

hindrance; this, in the end will reflect the patients’ service quality.

As for Chiatura branch, we have mentioned above that there only simple lab researches are done . As our respon-dent says-“Analysis for all lab researches at “Ferro-med” are also taken at Chiatura branch. The process is daily and well-or-ganized, all rules of transferring are kept and the results come back in the shortest period of time.”

We have already written that a memorandum was signed between the schoolchildren of a village Gezruli and “Geor-gian Manganese”; according to it, the youngsters participate to restore the soil which was damaged during manganese mining. Twice a year, in spring and autumn, they join the re-cultivation process and bring saplings from their own nur-sery. This idea belongs to their teacher Roland Khojashvili. The children have participated in the re-cultivation activities for the second time so far. They have brought more than 3000 saplings from Gezruli and named the place where the saplings were planted after the famous forester from Chiatu-ra, Budu Khvedelidze.

Two Beautiful Days in Svaneti…

In accordance with the memorandum, “Georgian Manganese” has its responsibilities. Among them is to finance once a year a trip to one of the regions of Georgia for those 25 schoolchildren, who participated in the re-cultivation process.

This year they took a trip to Svaneti. The schoolchildren explored the places they had always wanted to see-Mestia, Ushgu-

li. As their photos show, they stopped on their way and thoroughly studied this beautiful part of Georgia. They even took part in the process of ploughing and sowing.

The young people were most of all impressed by Svan towers and Saint Mary’s mo-nastery-Lamaria from which they could see the tallest mountain of the Caucasus ridge-Shkhara. On their way back, the children also visited Prometheus cave in Kutaisi and other sights.

The public school students’ self-governance of the village Gezruli, Chiatura Municipality would like to express their gratitu-de that there was no hindrance from your side within the memo-randum which was signed last year. What’s more, with “Alloys” ’ support, the memorandum participants actively got involved in the series of actions which we called “Green Future of Black Chiatura.” The students started working on this unique project with exemplary commitment; this increases civil and ecological self-awareness in the youth.

I am happy to note that we have already been twice invited to the theatrical events and our transportation was paid by the com-pany. The presents which were given to Gezruli schoolchildren at New Year, still remain the most precious presents for them.

However, the most important is the fact that with our students’ direct participation a constant process of afforestation has started.

On June 7 -8 a trip to Svaneti was financed by you; it left an in-delible trace on the trippers and they confessed unanimously that if it hadn’t been for your assistance, the tour would not be organized.

We would like to thank you for your cooperation and hope that we will continue the activities which are envisaged in the memo-randum.
