Editorial

Dear Porsche Club Members,

Once again 2006 is promising to bean exciting and varied year for Porsche.This is evident from a glance at thecurrent developments in the modelprogramme. The new top of the rangemodel in the Cayenne series was pre-sented in January in the form of theCayenne Turbo S. With a performanceof 521 bhp, this vehicle has becomethe second most powerful road Porschebehind the Carrera GT. The GenevaMotor Show at the beginning of Marchalso saw the unveiling of furtherPorsche innovations. With the new 911 Turbo and the GT 3, Porsche presented two sports cars which areat the absolute pinnacle within theirrespective segments.

There has also been an above aver-age level of activity to report from thePorsche Clubs in 2006. There are nowaround 550 recognised Porsche Clubsaround the world, ensuring a packedevent calendar that is extremely diverse.Whether there are motorsport eventssuch as the Alpenpokal, the Concoursd’Elégance during the Paradis PorscheSaint Tropez in October this year,

national events such as the PorscheClub Germany meeting in Munich fromthe 7th to the 10th of September, orinternational meetings such as thePorsche Club Festival of Porsche ClubGreat Britain in Eynsham Hall betweenthe 26th and 27th of August – there issomething for everyone. Nor shouldwe forget the numerous parades tak-ing place this year, such as thePorsche Parade Japan in Suzuka fromthe 26th to the 28th of May, thePorsche Europa Parade in Göteborgbetween the 29th of June and the 2ndof July, the Porsche Parade USA inPortland from the 6th to the 11th ofAugust, and the Porsche Parade inSouth Africa from the 20th to the 24thof September.

These parades are large events whichinvolve a great deal of organisation forthe clubs concerned. For example,anybody who looks at the completeprogramme for the 51st PorscheParade USA will soon realise the vastamount of work that goes into the stag-ing of such an event. Many of the vol-unteer helpers are giving up virtually

all of their free time to help to stagethe event. The increasing involvementof families in the Club events is a par-ticularly welcomed development, asare the activities provided for childrenat the larger events, such as those at the USA Parade and the Porsche ClubFestival arranged by Porsche ClubGreat Britain.

We are also especially proud of thelong tradition of Porsche Clubs, andthis year many clubs will be celebrat-ing their 35th, 45th or and even their50th anniversaries. Club Support willof course be present at many of theanniversary celebrations and eventsin order to underline the importanceof the clubs to Porsche AG.

We look forward to an eventful yearwithin the Porsche family and wish all Clubs the very best of luck and suc-cess in the staging of their particularevents.

The Porsche Design Group (PorscheLizenz- und Handelsgesellschaft mbH& Co. KG), Bietigheim-Bissingen, hasopened a new Porsche Design Storein Florence. The 80 m2 store is locatedin a prime position on Via Tornabuoniin the city centre.

The Porsche Design Store in Florencewas planned by the Porsche DesignGroup in collaboration with the Italianarchitect Matteo Thun and Munich-based corporate design agency KMS.The new store concept was originallyproposed in January 2005 on the occa-sion of the opening of the PorscheDesign Store in Berlin. Details werefirst published in the May 2005 editionof Porsche Club News.

Stores of this type stock the entireproduct programme of PorscheDesign, and therefore communicatethe idea and philosophy of the brand.Other marketing avenues include fran-chise stores, shop-in-shops, high-qual-ity department stores and discerningstores within the specialist trade.

The company now has its own storesin Berlin, Hamburg, London, New York,Florence, Beverly Hills and CostaMesa/Los Angeles, as well as elevenfranchise stores. According to Dr.Siegmund Rudigier, Chief Executive ofthe Porsche Design Group, there areexpected to be a total of 30 suchstores over the medium term.

Premiere – 911 Turbo more powerful than ever

Always the undisputed leader of the911-series, the new 911 Turbo had itsworld premiere on 28 February at theGeneva Motor Show. With new technicalhighlights and a distinctively muscularappearance, it is the most powerful911 ever.

Wider, quicker and even more fasci-nating – the new 911 Turbo once againmore than lives up to its reputation asa figurehead. Here are the key factsand figures:

• Power: The 3.6-litre Boxer pro-duces 353 kW (480 bhp) at 6,000revs. The maximum torque has in-creased to 620 Nm and is availablein the 1,950 to 5,000 revs range.

• Power output: With six-speedmanual transmission, the Turbosprints from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.9seconds, and from 0 to 200 km/hin 12.8 seconds. In fifth gear, it accelerates from 80 to 120 km/hin 3.8 seconds. A word of caution: The Turbo isnow even sportier with the optional

Tiptronic S automatic transmission:it performed the sprints in 3.7 seconds (0 to 100 km/h) and 12.2seconds (0 to 200 km/h), and interim acceleration (80 km/h to120 km/h) in 3.5 seconds. Topspeed for both gearbox variants is310 km/h.

• Technical highlights: Variable turbine geometry (VTG) is used forthe first time in the turbochargers.Adjustable guide vanes direct theexhaust flow variably and selectivelyto the turbocharger’s turbine wheel,producing improved elasticity andacceleration, especially at lowrevs. The newly developed four-wheel drive has an electronicallycontrolled multi-plate clutch.Porsche Traction Management (PTM)distributes the power variably toboth drive axles. Depending on thedriving condition, it continuouslyensures optimal distribution oftorque, and therefore the best possible drive. The PTM is one ofthe most powerful, yet at the samelightest, four-wheel systems.

• Design features: the new nosesection has distinctive cooling airinlets. Oval Bi-Xenon headlampsare fitted as standard, along withwidely spaced, deep-set fog lampsand new LED flashers positioned inthe cooling air inlets. The rear as-sembly is 22 millimetres wider thanthat of its predecessor. The splitwing has been redesigned in linewith the rest of the dimensions. Itleans slightly down on the edges,nestling up against the shape ofthe wings. New side air inlets behind the doors ensure more efficient cooling air entry into thecharge-air coolers.

• Market launch: On 24 June 2006in Germany, and on 8 July in theUSA.

• Price: Basic price is 115,000 euro. In Germany, the Turbo costs133,603 euro, including VAT andspecific national duties. In the USA,it costs 122,900 dollars (excludingtaxes).

History

1905: The turbocharger was born. On16 November, Swiss engineer Dr.Alfred Büchi (1879 – 1959) receivesthe patent for the “internal combustionengine system consisting of a com-pressor (turbine compressor), pistonengine and turbine”.

1923: First use. With exhaust gas tur-bocharging, the output of the ten-cylin-der diesel engines of the “Danzig” and“Preussen” passenger ships increasedfrom 1,750 to 2,500 bhp.

1973: Porsche uses the over 1,100bhp 917/30 in the American CanAM-series as the turbo technology bench-mark. The racer outclasses itsopponents.

1974: Porsche presents the first 911Turbo at the Paris Motor Show – theworld’s first turbocharged productionsports car. It sprints from 0 to 100km/h in 5.5 seconds.

1977: Thanks to a charge-air cooler,the successor to the original Turbonow generates 300 bhp from a 3.3litre engine.

1987: A second turbocharger is usedfor the first time on the turbo techno-logy benchmark 959.

1995: The bi-turbo era in productionvehicles begins. The new 911 Turbosparkles with sensational perform-ance (0 – 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds)and new emission control. Catalyticconverter technology in combinationwith on-board diagnostics II makes itthe world’s cleanest car.

2005: Porsche uses a turbochargedspark-ignition engine with variable turbine geometry (VTG) for the firsttime. The technology significantly im-proves elasticity, particularly at lowrevs.

2000: The new VarioCam Plus tech-nology reduces the new 911 Turbo’sconsumption (by 18 per cent com-pared with its predecessor) and emis-sion and improves its running.

A new loco in the new look

Main station in Berlin: the new “Porscheloco” has officially been commissioned.“We are looking to the railwaysbecause we have the road at heart”,said Porsche CEO Dr. WendelinWiedeking.

The Chairman of Deutsche Bahn AG,Hartmut Mehdorn, symbolically handedover the modern electric locomotivein an exclusive Porsche design to Dr.Wendelin Wiedeking at Berlin’s new station. The new “Porsche loco” is a6,400-kilowatt 182-series tractionengine which accelerates from noughtto 200 in around 20 seconds. It willpull mainly heavy goods trains through-out the whole of Germany.

The Deutsche Bahn CEO took the occa-sion to thank the sports car manufac-turer for the ongoing activities ofswitching the transportation of vehi-cles and components onto the railway.Mehdorn said: “Porsche is a goodexample of how logistics can be organ-ised in an intelligent and environmen-tally friendly way. That is very much

our strength as an integrated mobilityand logistics group.”

From this spring, Porsche will be trans-ferring the deliveries of engines andcomponents from road to rail usingcompletely redeveloped rail wagonsand megatrailers. Wiedeking: “Throughclose cooperation with DeutscheBahn, we are able to avoid around15,000 journeys a year by lorry, whichis equivalent to almost 20 million kilo-metres.” According to Wiedeking, theswitch from road to rail would meanthousands fewer lorry journeys on Ger-man roads. Of course, Porsche is notacting entirely from selfless motives:“As a sports car manufacturer, we arelooking to the railways because wehave the road at heart”, admitted thePorsche CEO.

As early as February 2001 Porschehad begun to introduce a transporta-tion and logistics concept which isheavily based on rail travel. Since then,all vehicles destined for export over-seas have been transported in special

wagons from the Porsche loading sta-tion in Kornwestheim to the North Seaports in Emden and Bremerhaven. Onthe return journey, the wagons areloaded with Boxsters and Caymanmodels from Finland destined for cus-tomers in Southern Europe.

Porsche also uses the railways inLeipzig: each day the pre-producedbare bodies arrive on a special train atthe plant’s own station from where they enter production. Similarly, allcompleted Cayennes destined forexport overseas are transportedexclusively by rail to the North Seaports.

Porsche Club Great Britain – Porsche Club Festival

Eynsham Hall will be the scene of the Porsche Club Festival which will be stagedby Porsche Club Great Britain on the 26th and 27th of August 2006. At this timethere will be anniversaries to celebrate: Porsche Club Great Britain’s 45th andPorsche Boxster’s tenth. The programme includes a parts market, an exhibitionof historic racing cars, a Porsche Cars Great Britain stand, an off-road drivingexercise, and the “Porsche Road” – one of the biggest presentations of Porscheroad vehicles. 2. Event calendar

Porsche Club of America – 51st Porsche Parade USA

The Porsche Club of America’s 51st Porsche Parade will be held between the6th and 11th of August 2006. Hundreds of Porsche enthusiasts are expectedto attend this mammoth event in Portland, Oregon. Participants will enjoy anunparalleled six-day programme. The list of individual programme points runs toseveral pages. They include a Concours d’Elégance, a technology quiz, tech-nology seminars, various driving competitions and excursions, parts markets,various evening events and many attractions for children. ADPCR and DNRT – All Dutch Porsche Zandvoort Days

All Dutch Porsche Club Racing (ADPCR) and Dutch National Racing Team (DNRT)invite all Porsche drivers to the All Dutch Porsche Zandvoort Days which will beheld between the 7th and the 9th of July 2006. The event, which will be stagedat the Zandvoort racetrack, is the third of this type, and will offer Porsche own-ers the opportunity to put their vehicle through its paces while testing their owndriving skills on the track. There will be four classes, based on experience andvehicle type. Once again, participants will have plenty of opportunity for freedriving at this year’s event. Michelin gives the Carrera extra bite

The new 911-series models havegiven Porsche a great boost – par-ticularly in the field of drivingdynamics where the performanceof the sports cars is outstanding.A major factor in this respect hasbeen the equipping of the vehi-cles with Michelin tyres.

Captivating appearance, numeroustechnical highlights and impressiveperformance: the Porsche Carreraenthrals on every count. Since itspresentation, the specialist press hasgone head over heels in its praise ofthe 911 Carrera, which is enormousfun to drive. In the unanimous opinionof the testers, the Carrera handleslike virtually no other sports car of itskind.

Its superior road behaviour is also duein part to the Michelin tyres, whichhave now become the benchmark forPorsche sports cars. In other words,

the Michelin Pilot Sport 2 has becomea reference tyre in drive gear devel-opment. All measures are aimedexplicitly at making optimum use ofthe enormous potential of this high-performance tyre. Improvements in

the driving dynamics compared withthe predecessor models are testa-ment to the compelling combinationof the latest Porsche models andMichelin’s high-performance tyres.This is underlined by the results ofvarious test drives. For instance, inthe dry and wet handling disciplinesand dry braking, the Michelin PilotSport 2 has improved performanceso much that this vehicle/ tyre combi-nation now sets new standards. Theperformance of today’s original equip-ment tyre is four per cent up on itspredecessors. At this high level, thatrepresents a quantum leap.

The contribution to reducing fuel con-sumption is also remarkable. Com-pared with its predecessor, theMichelin Pilot Sport 2 has reducedrolling resistance by six per cent andtyre weight by five per cent. If theMichelin Pilot Sport 2 is already a ref-erence point for public road traffic,then the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup withN0 specification, which was devel-oped specially for the race circuit, ful-

fils the particularly ambitious claims inrespect of driving characteristics. Thissports tyre is the logical choice forexperiencing the class of a Porsche.

It combines an unusually high level ofgrip on dry roads with extremely pre-cise steering and agile handling. Theuse of a multicomponent tyre tread is tailor-made for exceptional driving performance and fast lap times.

Designed for the racing circuit, thefocus during development was onimproved performance on a dry roadsurface. At the same time, Michelinhas managed to achieve excellent con-trollable road behaviour on a damp sur-face. The fact that the low profile tyrebrings with it an increased risk of aqua-planing on a wet surface, as is thenorm with sports tyres, means thatconnoisseurs can classify it as a typi-cal race sports car.

The Michelin Pilot Sport Cup N0 islicensed for use worldwide on publicroads. But just as with the Carrera, sotoo the new Michelin sports tyre needsto be exercised out in the wilds – andthe racetrack is its territory.

Porsche Tennis Grand Prix

Anniversary and premiere in the Porsche Arena

The Porsche Tennis Grand Prix isalmost upon us: advance bookingshave already started for the 30th stag-ing of the event, which will be heldbetween the 30th of September andthe 8th of October 2006, and isexpected to feature the world’s bestfemale tennis players. On top of this,there is good news from tournamentdirector Markus Günthardt: “All priceshave been held as a thank you to ourpublic which has remained loyal to usover the years.”

The anniversary of the Porsche TennisGrand Prix is also a premiere. For thefirst time, Lindsay Davenport and Co.will be guests at the new Porsche Arena which is being built in Stuttgart’sNeckar Park between the Gottlieb-Daimler Stadium and Hanns-Martin-Schleyer Hall. For 20 years, Porschehas held the naming rights for the mul-tifunction hall which can accommodateup to 7,500 visitors, depending on theevent being staged. Board ChairmanDr. Wendelin Wiedeking says: “Thisdecision is more than an acknowl-edgement of our home location. As asuccessful company, we also have anobligation to the public interest. Peo-ple in Stuttgart and the surrounding

area will be offered interesting eventsat the new Porsche Arena.” Forinstance, in future Porsche will hold itsown annual general meetings in thenew hall.

The sporting highlight in the PorscheArena, the particular attraction ofwhich lies in its flexible use thanks toshort conversion times, will undoubt-edly be the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix.The switch from the tranquil ruralFilderstadt to the regional capital isregarded by Markus Günthardt as agreat opportunity for the tournamentwhich is known throughout the world.According to the tournament director,“ladies tennis is on the up internation-ally, and has a great global media pres-ence. Our product has the formatwhich will allow it to continue to grow.Stuttgart and the new hall provide uswith an opportunity to retain our corepublic while at the same time attract-ing new visitors.” The intention is alsoto retain the values and public face ofthe Porsche Tennis Grand Prix tourna-ment at its new home. Günthardt prom-ises that “although the location ischanging, the standard remains thesame.” So it is hardly any surprise thatvirtually every female tennis player

who played in last year’s tournamenthas already given a commitment totake part in the premiere at thePorsche Arena.

Maintenance, repairs and restora-tion: a complete service for clas-sic Porsches.

When it comes to the maintenance,repair or restoration of a classicPorsche, the workshop at Porsche’sZuffenhausen plant is a special ad-dress. Customers from all over theworld arrange for their Porsche to bechecked over or restored at the placewhere it was originally built. Ownersoften arrange for their vehicle to beflown or sent by ship and then trans-ported on to Stuttgart.

Nowhere is trust in the competence ofthe Porsche plant in Zuffenhausenmore evident than in the maintenanceand repair of the Porsche 959 with itschallenging technology. The specialistknowledge available in the Classic Cus-tomer Centre and access to specialtesting equipment and the documen-tation for this vehicle are valued highlyby our customers. The vehicles in thePorsche Museum are also maintained

and restored, of course, in Zuffen-hausen.

Yet whether it is the Porsche 356. 911or another classic Porsche model, thecustomer will always benefit from theoriginal tools and test equipment thatwere used when the vehicle itself wasbuilt. The workshop has modern, high-

tech equipment, of course, which isused whenever necessary, helping toreduce costs and time. If parts haveto be replaced, only high-quality classicoriginal parts are used, guaranteeingthe perfection of the work carried out.

What actually happens when the cus-tomer delivers his Classic Porsche atthe Customer Centre for maintenanceand repair? First of all the work that isrequired on the vehicle is discussedwith the customer, and a broad costestimate drawn up on this basis. Amore accurate cost estimate can bemade after the vehicle or correspon-ding components have been strippeddown in the workshop and appraised.The amount of time required for thework is not taken into account whenthe work is commissioned.

With longer-term projects, for examplerestoration work, customers receiveregular interim reports on the currentstatus of the work on their vehicle.Sheet metal, engine and gearboxreconditioning, as well as upholster-ing work, are carried out in special

departments within the plant. The vastexperience of Porsche engineers andthe large number of special tools, manyof which are only available at Porsche,guarantee very high work quality andthe shortest possible repair times.

In order to guarantee the perfect func-tioning of a reconditioned or repairedengine, the Classic Customer Centreuses a facility which is rarely found inother restoration workshops – an enginetest bed. Only when the drive gear haspassed this test station without anyproblems is it refitted in the vehicle.

When a vehicle is completely restored,a log of this work is recorded in a comprehensive folder, together withthe documentation of all other work carried out, which is then given to thecustomer together with a “birth cer-tificate” of the vehicle and a specialbadge. The chassis number of thePorsche classic, the date of restora-tion and the signature of the Porscheemployee who has carried out therestoration work are engraved on thebadge. On request, the badge can alsobe attached to the vehicle – as a qual-ity mark of guaranteed, high-qualitywork.

AvD-Oldtimer Grand Prix 2006

The Nürburgring will be the venue forthe 2006 AvD Oldtimer Grand Prix.Every year the event attracts historicmotorsport enthusiasts, and will bestaged this year between the 11th and13th of August.

Friends of the Porsche marque arealso welcome to attend the event attheir own expense, at which numerousPorsche vehicles participate in the various races. The Mercedes Arenahas now become a particularly impor-tant venue for Porsche enthusiasts. Inkeeping with tradition, the spacioussite will host presentations by the var-ious departments of the Porsche com-pany over the three days of the event.

The Classic Customer Centre willdemonstrate its competence in mat-ters of restoration, provide informa-tion about the availability of originalspare parts, and offer for sale specialliterature such as operating instruc-tions or repair manuals. The Exclusiveand Tequipment department will pres-ent an accessories programme, in ad-dition to which you can experience atclose hand how original parts arereproduced in what has been dubbedthe “living workshop”. Porsche ClubSupport and Porsche Germany staffwill also be on hand to answer any ofyour questions.

A particularly eye-catching sight will,of course, be the countless Porschesparked on the site, reflecting almostthe entire history of the marque. If youwould like to attend with your Porsche,all you have to do is obtain a VIP pack-age which contains a parking spot foryour Porsche at the site – subject, ofcourse, to availability. Incidentally,everbody who buys a package anddoes not travel to the event in aPorsche can park his vehicle outsidethe race circuit in a reserved car park-ing area easily accessible from thepaddock.

2005 was a very eventful year forPorsche Club Chile. Various eventsprovided the members with the oppor-tunity to enjoy nature and the culinarydelights of their own country, and alsoto experience the performance poten-tial of their Porsche on the racetrack.The wide variety of activities broughtthe Club members together in a familyatmosphere to see out the year with abig New Year’s Eve party. At the sametime, there was the celebration of thepurchase of the second Carrera GT bya member of Porsche Club Chile. Thetwo Carrera GTs are the only ones inthe whole of Latin America. What wereour events like? We present three ofthem below.

Destination ZapallarClub members set out from Santiago,the Chilean capital, on an unfor-gettable journey to the coast andZapallar. The journey took in a very demanding road with steep inclinesthat required caution and narrowbends which were a pleasure to drive.Just one and a half hours later themembers had arrived at their destina-tion of Zapallar, one of the most exclu-

sive resorts on Chile’s central coast.Thanks to Porsche, the journey there,where many members have holidayhomes, was truly an experience.

Participants were spoiled with a mealof fish and seafoods such as salmon,oyster and king prawns in the famous“El Chiringuito” restaurant. After themeal there was still plenty of time forinteresting discussions while the localresidents admired, with curiousity,

the many gathered Porsches. It wasevening before the Club membersstarted for their way back to Santiago.The numerous bends provided just asmuch pleasure on the return journey,and after arriving in Santiago every-one agreed that they had had a fan-tastic day.

Instructors provide driver trainingTo enjoy owning a Porsche to the full,it is necessary to gradually get usedto and learn how to handle its powerand speed. The Club members there-fore took the opportunity to test their cars out on the racetrack at LasVizcachas overseen by five instruc-tors. More than 20 different modelsand vintages of Porsche had gathered,and it was very easy to see whatprogress had been achieved throughtechnical developments of individualvehicles over the years. The instruc-tors provided an impressive expose ofthe secrets lurking beneath the bon-net.

The event was sponsored by threecompanies. Representatives fromMichelin provided the technical serv-ice on the track. Next to the circuit,the “Las Condes” clinic had posted anambulance and two doctors torespond quickly to any accidents. Andfinally Starbucks was on hand to pro-vide coffee, cold drinks and pastries.

However, the event did not just pro-vide an opportunity for owners toimprove their driving skills; there wasalso time to meet friends and ex-change experiences. The large num-ber of participants (around 40) causedthe Club to offer further driver trainingevents in the future.

the opportunity to drive to Bariloche,a pretty tourist town in Argentinarenowned for its chocolate. Otherssimply enjoyed the scenery and theamazing colours cast by the eveningtwilight.

After spending days in the fresh air itwas back to the north in the Porsches.The destination this time was the five-star Hotel Park Lake in Villarrica, whichis situated on the shore of Lake Villar-rica. In the shadow of snow-coveredvolcanoes and waterfalls, Club mem-bers enjoyed themselves rafting orsailing, or just relaxing by bathing inthe thermal springs. A casino, golfcourse and tennis courts provided yetfurther variety.

On the last night of the trip, everybodycelebrated at a New Year’s Eve partyin the hotel's huge drawing rooms. Theyear drew to a close with an out-standing dinner which was followed bydancing. For the Club it was the end ofa fantastic year.

Everybody returned to Santiago thefollowing morning. Some chose to fly,while others opted to enjoy theirPorsches for a few hours more. Hope-fully it will not be too long before thenext Porsche Club Chile event.

Spectacular year-endAfter a year of hard work, there is noth-ing better than meeting up with goodfriends, enjoying comfortable hotelsand beautiful scenery and feeling afresh breeze on the face – especiallyat the wheel of a Porsche. The Club'sNew Year’s Eve celebrations weredesigned specifically to cater for suchwishes. Around 60 participants droveto Temuco in the south of Chile beforegetting into their Porsches and drivingto the “end of the world” – the mostsoutherly tip of Chile. Thirty Porschestook the new road to the south, cross-ing a green and wild landscape as faras La Angostura. The Club membersspent two days in this beautiful Argen-tinian town which lies in the middle ofthe Patagonian Andes.

Accommodation was provided by theHotel Correntoso, a hundred-year-oldbuilding situated at the summit of a hillon the banks of the Correntoso riverand Lake Nahuel Huapi in the middleof a national park. The sunny days werespent with pony trekking, canoeingand fishing. Several people also took

Porsche Club Philippines celebratedits rebirth on the 29th of January2006. And the celebrations were notjust about driving. A varied programmepresented by the country’s well-knowntalk-show host Cito Beltan awaited themany Club members, Porsche ownersand guests of honour present at thePorsche Centre Philippines.

During the event, the Club logo of thePorsche Club Philippines was unveiled,and the guests learned about the aimsof the Club which is headed by its presi-dent Ramon Ang and supported by theimporter PGA Cars. PGA Cars Inc. wasrepresented by its Chairman Miguel

The Manama Festival took place aheadof the Formula One GP of Bahrain.Porsche Club Bahrain took part in var-ious activities at the festival to sup-port the Hope Institute for SpecialEducation for disabled children in IsaTown. The festival, which drew thou-sands of visitors with its many highpoints, such as the breathtaking airshow, also included a parade of par-ticularly fascinating cars and motor-cycles. But the Club was able to offermore than just its vehicles. The first international meeting of thePorsche Club Czech Republic met witha great response. The participants,who numbered about 90, were madeup of members of Porsche Clubs fromthe Czech Republic, Slovakia, Ger-many, Austria, Croatia, Belgium,France, Monaco, Estonia, Sweden,Turkey and Lithuania. Representativesof Porsche AG also came to Prague.Eva Sevcíková, President of PorscheClub Czech Republic, welcomed thePorsche enthusiasts at the Old TownHall: “we will be showing you the mag-nificent sights of the capital Prague sothat you can experience for yourselvesthe history, culture and tradition of ourcountry”.

To achieve this, the Club had organ-ised a comprehensive and informativeprogramme designed to enthuse allthose present. Having visited the OldTown Hall with its historical rooms andthe Old Town square, everybody metin the parish hall, an art nouveau stylebuilding dating from about 1905 to

1911, where guests were enchantinglyentertained by the well-known StamicQuartet with works by Czech com-posers such as Bedrich Smetana,Antonin Dvorak and Leopold Kozeluh.

This was followed by an interestingboat trip with an interim stop at theKampa peninsula and a visit to theKarlsbrücke Bridge. The next destina-tion was reached by car. The forecourtof Prague Castle provided sufficientroom for the Porsche vehicles to lineup which, of course, attracted curiousglances from many a passer-by. Par-ticipants enjoyed both the castle andSt. Veit Cathedral. The evening wasspent at Hrzansky Palace to theaccompaniment of Walachisch cymbalmusic and performances by theValasek children’s folk dance club.

The Sunday began with a small excur-sion from Cerninsky Palace. The firststop was Novy Bor, a region famousfor its glass industry. Following a veryinteresting visit to a glassblowing

factory, the next stop was Vratislavice.It is a place that is of particular impor-tance to Porsche enthusiasts, as Professor Ferdinand Porsche wasborn here in 1875. After visiting thehouse where he was born, there wasa visit to the nearby Sychrov Palacewhere this marvellous event concluded.The event received a positive responsewithout exception, and everybody islooking forward to the next interna-tional meeting of Porsche Club CzechRepublic.

Porsche Club Holland

50th anniversary of Porsche Club Holland

2006 is the year that Porsche ClubHolland celebrates 50 years of its exis-tence. Porsches were first sold in theNetherlands in 1950, and six years later 70 vehicles had been registered.On the 28th of April 1956, 16 enthu-siastic Porsche drivers foundedPorsche Club Holland. One of thefounders of the Club was Ton vanHeuzen, who is still an honorary mem-ber and still drives and enjoys aPorsche.

Today the Club is still a very lively one,and is characterised by a love of thePorsche marque and the friendly rela-tionships of its members. The annualevents calendar includes a variety of

starting from the Porsche Centre atGelderland. The first attraction is a vis-it to a Porsche plant in Leipzig. This isfollowed by a visit to Berlin and a jour-ney through the idyllic Luneburg Heath.

Incidentally, membership of our Clubis open to every Porsche owner in theNetherlands. Anybody who would liketo experience a little of the Club atmos-phere can come along to one of ourmeetings without obligation. If you areinterested, you can contact our Cluboffice. The address is:

Christmas meeting with honorary guest

The Rhein-Main region of Porsche Club928 welcomed a very special guest toits Christmas meeting in December2005 – Andreas Hentrich. Hentrich, asuccessful graphic designer, drove aPorsche 356 in the historic motor-sport race. He has gained a reputa-tion for his automotive graphics madefrom pewter. These handmade pewteretchings are part of the New Realismmovement and are becoming increas-ingly sought-after and valuable worksof art.

Through the Andreas Foundation SriLanka he discovered a new purpose inhis life – support for the needy in SriLanka. With his contacts, he has beenable to realise many projects. At pres-ent he is raising money to build a hos-pital. His art is completely dedicatedto the service of his relief organisa-tion, so anybody buying one of hisworks will be contributing directly tothe people in Sri Lanka.

Thanks to a new production techniquein which pewter has been replaced bysurface-treated aluminium – whichalso enables colour illustrations usinga special printing procedure – Hentrichcan now offer graphics to order. Hebrought graphics bearing two motifsof a Porsche 928 to the Porsche Club928 meeting – glazed and with an alu-minium frame. The proceeds from thesale of a small graphic (22 x 30 cm)alone can support a family of four inSri Lanka for two months.

Porsche Club 928 members were alsoable to help in another way: last yearFrank Heise donated walking frames.This year Club member Helmut Schmidtdonated oxygen equipment.

The meeting itself took place in its cus-tomary convivial atmosphere, with allthose present receiving a CD with photos of 2005 Club events, includinga Porsche 928 screensaver, as a souvenir.

away from their splendid cars. Fol-lowing a speech by Club Chairman Gijsvan Wagensveld, a price was issuedfor the furthest journey of the 912drivers who were not Club members.It emerged that the price applied totwo owners. Both were unaware thatthey lived just 200 metres from eachother.

With the 912 from castle to castle

At the end of last year, KlassiekePorsche 911 en 912 Club Nederlandcelebrated “40 years of the Porsche912” with a castle tour. With the sup-port of Pon Porsche Import, not onlywas it possible to keep the event feedown, but a surprisingly large numberof Porsche 912 owners attended theevent. The Porsche importer had writ-ten to every Porsche 912 driver on itsbooks to inform them of the anniver-sary trip. As a result, the twelve Club912 members were joined by 39 others.

The event began with coffee and pas-tries at a reception in the church hallat Cothen. Most of the 107 kilometreroute went through the rolling countryaround Utrecht, an area with many cas-tles. An illustrated book of the tripmade sure that nobody would losetheir way. We travelled through the vil-lages of Vreeswijk, Jutfaas, Lang-

broek, Amerongen, Elst and Veenen-daal, along large and small rivers. Ourdestination was the orangery atSchloss Maarsbergen, the formerhome of Formula One driver CarelGodin de Beaufort who was killed in anaccident in 1964.

Porsche 912 owners who were notmembers of the Club were welcomeda little later in Cothen. As they took a slightly shorter route, everybodyarrived at Schloss Maarsbergen atalmost the same time. Several classicPorsche 911s had also joined theevent. One surprise included an origi-nal historical Porsche police carbelonging to one of our Club mem-bers.

The owners of the rows of Porscheswere soon involved in intense discus-sion, with bonnets up and doors open.With musical hits from the 60s and70s ringing out and culinary delightsto enjoy, it was difficult to tear many

Spring fairs with Porsche Classic participation

Porsche Classic was present at vari-ous international spring fairs wellahead of the start of the Oldtimer sea-son. For instance, Classic was repre-sented at the “Retro Mobile” in Parisand the “Antwerp Classic Salon”, ineach case with a Classic informationpoint at the Porsche Club stand. AClassic representative was present atan information point on each Porscheimporter’s stand at the “StockholmMotor Show” and the “Oldtimer andParts Market” in Fribourg/Switzerland.

Many customers used the opportunityto obtain information about the availa-bility of parts and literature, or to buy or order them. Visitors were also given the opportunity to express theirwishes in respect of new parts andlearn more about the services provid-ed by the Classic workshop at the Classic customer centre at Plant I inZuffenhausen.

Porsche had its own stand at the“Retro Classics” fair in Stuttgart in mid-March 2006, and the “Techno Classica”between the 5th and 9th of April 2006in Essen.

This year’s figures for the two fairswere again impressive: • Stuttgart: a record 40,000 visitors

to the national trade fair.• Essen: record number of visitors

(150,700) and exhibitors (1,087)at the biggest international Classicfair set over 120,000 square metres.

The highlight at the Porsche Classicstand at both fairs was the bare shellof a 911 Targa which was presentedon a straightening bench with devicesset in the windows, roof and head-lamps.

the special cleaning procedure usedat the customer centre. The body isdipped in an alkaline solution bath untilall of the paint has been removed, withunderfloor protection. This procedureis particularly gentle, particularly on sheet metal parts that are slightlyor completely eroded. Another stepworth highlighting in the processing ofcar bodies at the Classic customercentre in plant I is the priming in the“cathodic immersion bath” (KTL). Theadvantage here is the even process-ing and corresponding protection ofthe body shell right down to every nookand cranny.

The individual procedures of body shellprocessing were demonstrated to thevisitors to the fair using a model nextto the 911 body. During both tradefairs, the model was permanently be-sieged and a source of much interest-ing conversation.

Many visitors were also drawn to the“living workshop” on the Porsche Classic stand. Classic Customer Centreemployees demonstrated their techni-cal skills and knowledge in the fieldsof transmission, electrics, chassis andsuspension and upholstery at variousworkstations. For example, a completecable harness was produced as visi-tors looked on. The many questionsasked by visitors to the workstationswere answered comprehensively bycolleagues.

The central attraction at the stand was,of course, the advice points providedby the Classic Customer Centre’sspare parts specialists and the salesstand for Classic documentation. TheClassic Customer Centre at both fairs was augmented by the “PorscheDesign Drivers Selection” sales truck

and the German Porsche Classic Clubsstands which provided a good gather-ing point for Club members and inter-ested parties.

At the Stuttgart fair, on two of the daysbusiness on the Porsche Classic standdid not end when the fair officiallyclosed. Customers and suppliers invit-ed by the Classic Customer Centreremained in conversation, fortified bydrinks and snacks. The response tothe invitation was brisk. It was evidentfrom the late end to both evenings thatguests had enjoyed themselves.
