SUNDAY COLLECTION: 6/24-$20,870.17 CAPITAL CAMPAIGN: 6/24-$8,192.33

We thank you for your generosity!

In Your Prayers Please remember those who are sick and suffering, especially those who are in the hospital: Bernardine Wodarcyk, Yvonne Nafe,

Patricia Nickolaus, George Burton, Marlene Fetherbay, and Ava Marie Christensen. We pray that they may be restored to health through the grace of God. We also pray for our elderly parishioners who are homebound and in nursing care facilities. May our prayers give them courage and strength.

Please pray for the repose of the soul of Clara Maloney who recently passed away. May she and all the souls of the faithful departed come to share in the fullness of God’s glory and enjoy his favor forever in

heaven. We express our deepest sympathy to her family and friends.

SCRIPTURE READINGS Sunday, July 8TH, 2018

Ez 2:2-5; Ps 123:1-4; 2 Cor 12:7-10; Mk 6:1-6

Jesus is met with misgivings and rejection by his own relatives. Like them, we often resist the prophetic word because of an obstinacy of heart, rooted in a self-pride which must give way to weakness and powerlessness.

Pantry Food Collection The next collection of non-perishable food items for the Hempfield Area Food Pantry will take place at all Masses on July 7th and 8th. Thank

you to all of our parishioners who faithfully support this ministry. Our donation for June totaled 573 pounds! Food items requested are: 18 oz. strawberry jelly, 16 oz. crunchy peanut butter, 15 oz. canned pears, 15 oz. canned peaches, canned pineapple, and cereal.

1st Friday Prayer Group All are welcome to join this group on July 6th as they pray in a special way for their families and their personal intentions. They meet on the First Friday of each month in the Chapel from 1:00-2:00 pm. For more details or any

questions, please e-mail Theresa Kline at [email protected] or call her at 872-7003.

CAPITAL CAMPAIGN 2 NEWS – July 2018 – THANK YOU! As of June 24th, 2018, the combined pledged and non-pledged contributions for our three-year Capital Campaign #2 are $1,106,635 from 459 contributors. Over the last two months, four new donors joined our 2nd Capital Campaign. The update shows $850,528 has been received from 203 pledges of $1,523,875. An additional 256 donors have contributed another $256,107 during these first 14 months of the Campaign. This puts our savings balance in the Building fund at $1,410,909. Many project-related planning meetings occurred in May and June, the most recent on June 18th between the Building Committee and Cornerstone Design Architects. The design elements are nearly complete and good input was provided by the committee. The

latest design provides two distinct, multipurpose spaces that can also be combined into one larger space. Now we hope to provide banquet seating for more the 500 guests (up from 400 previously) and more than 850 seats in the “performance” configuration facing the stage (up from 600). The plan also includes a commercial kitchen more than twice the size of our present kitchen, a 2000+/- SF Library and Media Learning Center, additional restrooms, and other appurtenances. As soon as we have the bid documents all together, we will post an updated set of design drawings for everyone to view.

Construction bids will be solicited over the next few months, and permission from the Diocese will

be requested in the Autumn to proceed with construction in 2019. The amount of money in our Building Fund savings by mid-September will determine the size and scope of this next phase. With building costs rising at about 4-6% per year, it is important to get construction underway early in 2019. Our students are slated to start the 2018-2019 school year on August 20, 2018, so that they can finish in mid-May of 2019. This will give us a sizable window during the 2019 summer break for construction.

We have also been informed that Lime Spring Farms Development is also intending to complete the

construction of the access drive, which also alters our entrance. Widening of Marietta Ave, total reconstruction of our main entrance, and installation of a traffic signal are all scheduled for the summer of 2019. So, it looks like 2019 is shaping up to be a busy construction year at Saint Leo’s.

With more than 2.3 million Hail Marys prayed, and more than $1.4 million in savings, we are well

on our way to 5 million Hail Marys and $5 million. Please continue to pray for the success of this campaign, and for the safety of all workers that will be involved in the future construction. If it be God’s will, this vision will become reality.

For further information on this project, please contact the Parish Manager, Frank Kuchinski, Ph.D., at 717 394 1742 x141 or [email protected].

Diocesan Pilgrimage As part of the events celebrating the 150th anniversary of the Diocese of Harrisburg, Bishop Gainer will lead a diocesan pilgrimage to the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C. on Saturday, November 3rd, 2018. This will be the first time Bishop

Gainer will lead our diocese to Washington since he was installed in 2014. The day will consist of Mass, Eucharistic Adoration, Holy Rosary, and Confessions. There will be free time for Lunch, Private Prayer, Gift Shops and Self-guided Tour of the Basilica. We would like to extend an invitation to all of our parishioners and families to join us on this pilgrimage. For your convenience, we have reserved bus transportation and are offering an Early Bird Special: Adult Parishioners-$15/person; Kids high school age and under-FREE. The deadline for the Early Bird Special is September 20th. After September 20th, we will extend the invitation to members of other parishes. Adults-$30/person; Kids high school age and under-Free. Deadline to reserve a seat on the bus is October 17th. If the reservation list fills up, names will be put on a waiting list in chronological order. Church Nursery Returns We are happy to say that our nursery is now completely renovated and available for child care during the Saturday evening 4:30 Mass and the Sunday morning 9:15 Mass. We would like to thank Ellen Eschenwald and

Vern Bottoms for making this possible. We are still looking for more volunteers to staff it. Adults must have their current diocesan clearances. Teens who are looking to help or gain service hours are also welcome! We are also looking for donations of gently used toys/books and a few comfortable chairs. Please contact Ellen Eschenwald at 717-719-4026 or email at [email protected].

Urgent Need for Volunteers The Parish Office often receives calls for various forms of assistance, particularly with transportation and meals.

Recently we were unable to help someone who needed transportation to the hospital for a surgical procedure. We currently have a handful of volunteers to call upon to help and we urgently need more. We are asking you to please consider volunteering to help other parishioners who can no longer do certain things themselves. You can help someone on a regular basis or just help when you can. The more volunteers, the better. To join this ministry, please e-mail Alan at [email protected] with your name, address, phone number, e-mail address, driver and/or meal preparation, days of the week and times of the days that you are available.

Summer Camp for Adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities

CAMP VOL_NTEERS…all that is missing is U! The Diocese is seeking volunteers willing to assist at its residential camp, August 12th-17th. The camp takes

place at Camp Kirchenwald in Lebanon County and serves the needs of approximately 40 adults. The camp has been held annually for the past 32 years and is primarily dependent on volunteer support. Last year, volunteers from 21 parishes participated alongside volunteers from other faith communities to make this event a success. Anyone 16+ is welcome to volunteer for full-time or part-time duties; there is a particular need for male volunteers, 18 or older, who are able to spend the night, and for volunteers skilled at running an arts & crafts program. All volunteers are required to complete the Diocesan Clearance process and attend a brief training session prior to helping at camp. A deadline of June 30th for expressing volunteer interest is requested in order to facilitate planning efforts.

SPONSOR A CAMPER Would you like to sponsor a campership for a person with a disability who might not otherwise be able to afford camp? The Diocese

of Harrisburg is seeking donations to de-fray the cost for campers to ensure that each individual who would like to attend camp is able to do so, regardless of finances. A full week of camp costs $575, but donations in any amount will be welcomed. They can be sent to the Office of Ministry with People with Disabilities, 4800 Union Deposit Road, Harrisburg, PA 17111. Checks should be made payable to the Diocese of Harrisburg. For more information on volunteering or sponsoring a camper, please contact Larry Kiley at 717-657-4804, Ext. 322, or email [email protected]

Monthly Bingo The Knight of Columbus will sponsor Cash Bingo at St. Catherine of Siena Parish, Quarryville, on the 3rd Thursday of each month starting in June

through October. Doors open at 5:30 pm and games begin at 6:00 pm. Food and drinks will be available throughout the evening. For more information or questions, please call 717-786-2695.

Youth Protection Coordinator The Diocese of Harrisburg is seeking a Youth Protection Coordinator. The primary function of this position is to ensure that all clergy, employees and those volunteers working with youth and vulnerable adults are compliant with the background screening and

training requirements of both the Commonwealth of PA and Diocese of Harrisburg.

You need to be highly organized and possess excellent customer service skills as you will be the help desk for handling technical difficulties and/or lack of understanding of the application/content of the training material/interpretation of policy and/or Commonwealth regulations. The successful candidate must be able to work in an environment of extreme confidentiality, discretion and trustworthiness.

Candidates must be very comfortable with data entry and possess a good knowledge of MS Office applications. You will be working in Excel most of the time. Time permitting you will also be providing the HR Director with administrative assistance. Familiarity with Commonwealth of PA background clearance requirements helpful.

Applications should be sent to: [email protected] by July 20th, 2018.
