Yes, it was the man of STIEHL – 88 year old Walter Stiehl that skydived and parachuted from an airplane flying around 10,000 feet above Port Charlotte. The thought of leaping out of an airplane inhibits many from trying it – this fact did not stop Walter.

Former President George H.W. Bush sky-dived on his 85th birthday in the state of Maine on June 12, 2009. Walter was three years older when he jumped on May 12, 2012. I asked Walter if jumping from the plane was the biggest thrill of his lifetime, he said “It was his second biggest thrill.” The first biggest thrill came when the pilot of a plane left him to fly the plane alone after only 8 hours of instruction.

The day that Walter skydived, his two sons, one daughter and two grandchildren also sky-dived. It was an all in the fam-ily day. They all landed safely and correctly except for one son – his backside was a little sore for a day or two.

Walter, talking about the jump, gave the following information: A tandem jump was used where you are physically harnessed to the instructor. This al-lowed Walter and the family “Peace of Mind” to completely enjoy their jumps. Once Walter left the plane at around 10,000 feet above the ground, he was in free fall for about one minute traveling around 120 miles per hour. When the large para-

chute for two opened, it took about seven minutes to descent to earth. While descending, Walter’s only com-ment was, “where is the field.”

In a few short months, we will be hosting the first of two 25 year anniversary par-ties at Countryside. And the popular member parade is also scheduled to be held November 10, the same date as the first 25 year anniver-sary party. Be sure to read the food and beverage article for more information.

NuVu has made great prog-ress within the community. The conduit for the fi-ber optic system is in the ground, and the next step is pulling and splicing the fiber to the units/homes throughout the property. Landscape repairs have occurred, and upon final completion, a final land-scape site review will take place to insure all land-scaping has been satisfactorily restored. If there is any landscape restoration that you are not satisfied with, please do not hesitate to contact me.

We want to make this bulk cable transition as smooth as possible for all our owners, but we need your help. If you have any questions for NuVu, please do not hesitate to contact them at (239) 970-6061. Be sure to pre-order your NuVu services like internet, phone, or television upgrades. This will prevent any signifi-cant delays after the services are activated or after your arrival. Before you cancel your existing home tele-phone, you will need to contact NuVu on the porta-bility of your existing phone number.

As a reminder to all residents, please be mindful of safety and security for your unit, home and au-tomobile. Doing the little things like locking the doors and sliders go a long way towards thwarting opportunistic crimes. If you see suspicious activity, call 9-1-1 right away. Although we have had no re-ported criminal activity this summer, it’s always best to take prudent precautions.

In this newsletter, I have shared with you results and analysis from our end of season spot survey. (see page 4) This year’s spot survey was conducted to highlight the food and beverage amenity, and mea-sure changes in member perceptions. Be sure to log in to our website countrysidegcc.net for additional survey results!

As always, if you have any questions or comments, please don’t hesitate to contact me. I hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable summer.

Important RemindersSummer Golf is Here!

I hope all of you are enjoy-ing your summer and getting to play lots of golf. For those of you who went up north, summer is definitely here. We are having a typical month of June with the heat and hu-midity temperatures soaring. We still have a lot of early morning golf being played as the course has been in terrific shape. I will update you on a few of the happenings and

upcoming events.

We had our Memorial Day Step Aside Scramble in which 60 players participated. We had a great day for golf and a filling luncheon after the event. The scores were close as they always are. The results were:Couples Flight - 1st Place – 55 - Mike & Gloria Ragos-ta with Glen & Sandy Lause; 2nd Place – 56.4 – Tom & Judi Johnson with Larry & Crystalea Pelletier; 3rd Place - 56.5 – Mark and Carol Farrell with Mike and Nora Stein. 2nd Flight - 1st Place - 52.7 - Ed Patak, Kirk Ritchie, Sean O’Neill, Maura Davenport; 2nd Place - 54.5 – Tom Kiddle, Bob Land, Bernie Tabak-man and Jim Norton.

We have a couple of events coming up that I wanted to make you aware of. First, is our 4th of July Scramble. It will be an 8:00 shotgun on Wednesday, July 4th with lunch to follow the event. The format will be a step aside scramble using 10% of your team’s total handi-cap. We will divide the field into equal flights with net prizes in each flight. We hope to see you either in the event or at lunch. It is a great way to start your 4th of July celebration.

On Friday, July 13th, we will host the Men’s Summer Interclub. We are expecting to have approximately 80 players from private clubs within the Naples area. This is a popular summer event that is played every Friday from May thru October. Many of our members routinely par-ticipate in the events. We are privileged to be able to host an event and have the opportunity to show off Country-

side to our Naples neighbors.

We will once again be hosting the Optimist junior camps on Saturday throughout the summer months. The dates are: June 23rd, July 7th, July 14, July 21st, July 28th, And August 25th.

Stephanie & I put on a clinic to help them with their golf fundamentals and

then we get them on the course so they can play a few holes. The clinics will begin at 9:45.

Last year, we had approximately 50 kids that par-ticipated each Saturday. The kids really have a great day and truly enjoy coming to Countryside.

Have a great summer. We will look forward to your return.

PRESIDENT’SReportHow Countryside Compared to be FavorableMany of Coun-tryside’s Master Board members were able to at-tend the recently held Trends semi-nar at Quail West. Along with Mike and Jeff, we at-tended some very interesting pre-sentations on club m a n a g e m e n t .

Well over 200 people were in attendance representing most, if not all, of the Clubs in South West Florida. The data presented compared various attributes of both Bun-dled and Unbundled clubs and included a few Yacht Clubs. Countryside compared very favorably to our like Clubs in all data categories, especially in the area of finan-cial health. Even with this favorable com-parison, the Countryside staff continues to work on system improvements throughout the summer.

The NuVu infrastructure installation is cur-rently ahead of schedule and is being close-ly monitored by our General Manager.

We are all aware of how great our com-munity is, especially in the area of volun-teerism. Many of our neighbors give their time and talents doing volunteer work throughout Naples. I would like to give a special “Shout Out” to Marlene and Wayne Sherman. Marlene and Wayne have been working tirelessly over the past few years to develop momentum behind improve-ments to Davis Road. The Shermans have engaged owners in Countryside along with representatives of neighboring associations including Falling Waters, and have gotten the attention and majority support of the Collier County Board of Commissioners. Due to Marlene and Wayne’s efforts, it is highly likely that we could see improve-ments to Davis Road in the next few years.

As preparations are being made for the 25th anniversary, various committees are gearing up for their neighborhood floats. If the planning is any indication the parade this year should be a knockout.

I hope everyone is having a great summer. For those residing on campus, I look for-ward to seeing you at the many enjoyable summer events at our Club.

This past season, the following mission and vision were adopted by the board of directors.

Vision: Best Value in Paradise

Mission: Provide members with an enjoyable and valued liv-ing experience with quality amenities services and facilities.

A committee of talented owners led the strategic plan-ning process in partnership with the board. The vision and mission were derived from countless focus groups, surveys, and meetings specially designed to facilitate the strategic planning process and subsequent business plan-ning. Progressive thinking leadership drove the initia-tive, with the understanding that our primary objective is in the member satisfaction business. The Synergy Solutions Survey of 2010-11 revealed infor-mation which identified weaknesses in our operations, as well as long term desires and objectives of our owners. At the time, Countryside owners were dissatisfied with the F&B amenity. We weren’t meeting the demands of our mission statement. We made several needed changes and conducted a follow-up spot survey in the spring of 2012 to learn the results. We had a very strong and valid statistical sample, which enabled us to analyze and com-pare the data side by side to the previous survey informa-tion. Thank you again to everyone who participated.

The below graph illustrates the food and beverage sat-isfaction level of Countryside owners in 2011 (yellow ball) relative to other Synergy surveyed clubs satisfaction levels (white balls). The red ball represents the satisfac-tion level from the 2012 Countryside spring food and beverage spot survey. The improvements are dramatic, and indicate that Countryside owner satisfaction with the overall F&B operation has risen dramatically to the point where Countryside now matches or exceeds the other clubs surveyed. This is the largest year over year improvement ever seen by Synergy Solutions.

Through the follow-up survey, we were able to deter-mine the relative improvements in critical services like food quality and the powerful impact on overall satisfac-tion. The chart below indicates an absolute improve-

ment of 25% in overall member satisfaction in food and beverage. As the perceived quality of food improved, so did the overall satisfaction within the food and beverage operation. The results are dramatic and very telling.

This next graph illustrates how our members currently perceive the overall food quality. This diagram shows an absolute improvement in overall food quality of 30%. However, through a complicated regression analysis pro-cess, we are able to determine the relative improvement of food quality at 247%. This was important for us to understand, as food quality had become an important key driver to overall owner satisfaction. Although all aspects of the food and beverage amenity contributed to the dramatic improvements, it is primarily largely due to perceived improvements in the quality of food being served and the variety of menu choices now available which enhanced owner satisfaction levels.

These improvements did not happen overnight. The work began well over a year ago. Chris Fischer, Chef Anthony and their teams worked tirelessly to make the necessary improvements in the operation. The goal is to always provide an enjoyable and valued experience, and the food and beverage department certainly stepped up to the challenge. continued on next page

As with any club amenity, the food and beverage op-eration is private and exclusive. Club amenity expec-tations are always high, and often times a moving tar-get. High levels of satisfaction are difficult to attain, and even more difficult to maintain. Innovation and creative thinking are essential components to all suc-cessful organizations. That is the very concept that our food and beverage amenity has embraced to pro-vide high level member satisfaction and the best value in paradise for years to come.

The above referenced survey rating scale was 1 to 5:5 – Very satisfactory, greatly exceeds expectations, exceptional, I strongly agree4 – Satisfactory, exceeds expectations3 – Average, I am neutral to the issue2 – Unsatisfactory, needs improvement1 – Very unacceptable, greatly fails to meet expectations, I disagree strongly

SUMMERTIME-NEWS!Could it possibly be July al-ready? The 2012-2013 Season will be here before we know it!

Speaking of the 2012-2013 season, although I am sure most of you know, I feel I should mention what an im-portant season it is in the history of Countryside. The upcoming 2012-2013 season

will mark the 25th Anniversary of our club. With the 25th anniversary being such an important milestone we have decided that we need to celebrate in style. Countryside will host not one, but two 25 year anni-versary celebrations. The first will be held in Novem-ber and will also serve as our “Welcome Back” event. The second will be held at the end of March and will also serve as our “Farewell” party. The November 25th Anniversary party will include a Member interactive play, Golf Tournament and Parade. The decision to hold two parties was made to allow as many people to join the celebration as possible. If our November Anniversary party sells out, those on the wait list will be given the right of first refusal to attend the March Anniversary party. We will share more details in the coming months as they become available. We hope ev-eryone will make an effort to participate in the celebra-tion. Happy 25th Countryside!

I have mentioned this many times in past articles, but we truly had an outstanding Seasonal Staff(not to mention our outstanding full time and full time part time employees). One of those summer staff mem-

bers, Gala Hoff-man, has stayed on thru the summer working towards fulfilling her intern-ship for her Hospi-tality Management degree from FGCU. Additionally I wanted to mention what out-standing students they all are as well, especially know-ing how difficult it can be to balance work and school. I was very proud of our employees and thought our members would be as well; which is why I thought I’d share (or brag, depending on your point of view) just how well they did. Every member of our seasonal staff that attended college last semester, 8 in total, main-tained a grade point average of above 3.0. We had 6 that earned a 3.5 or above, including 2 perfect 4.0s. I hope that you will join me in congratulating each of our students on their outstanding academic achieve-ments.

Check your July and August calendars because we have added another value driven special to our week-ly lineup this summer. Beginning on July 5th, from 11:30am - 2pm, we will be offering a Buy 1 Get 1 ½ Off Special on our Lunch Menu every Thursday. Additionally, our ever popular 2 for $30 Special will continue every Friday Night. We hope that all of our year- rounders and those in for a visit over the sum-mer months will stop in and take advantage of these great deals! Happy 4th of July!

Gerardo’s responsibilities include assisting the Chef in making sure that each plate is looking its best be-fore it leaves the kitchen and then making sure it arrives hot and in a timely fashion to your table. Ge-rardo has excelled in this very challenging and important position since he arrived here at Countryside. Before arriving at Countryside, Gerardo held several positions with Restaurants and Clubs on Marco Island as a Banquet Server Supervisor and Food Runner. This is a very busy time of year for your Grounds maintenance staff. All turf areas have been aerified and topdressed, as well as insect and weed control applica-tions. We have sodded eight green perimeters with Tifeagle turf to help with fairway grass encroach-ment. This is very labor intensive, and will continue through the summer. The

Chipping area is now open, and we hope you like the improvements.

Many projects have taken place, with many more to come. Pictured below is the rock project on #15 men’s tee. The bridge at #5 green and the steps on holes #6, 13, 17, and 18 have been replaced, and a new grass ramp was created behind #6 green. Several

irrigation and drainage projects have been com-pleted to keep our sys-tem working properly.

A new plant bed was created next to #3 green, and Creeping fig have been planted along the wall on hole #17 on 16 inch centers. Tree and shrub plantings will continue on the golf course, clubhouse, and common areas. We will keep you posted on our progress with pictures on the website under Course Care.

Thank you to everyone who has been a part of events (jewelry party, White Elephant Auction, raffles) that raised monies for Bosom Buddies. Several women in our community have benefited from this group by at-tending support meetings and some may have been helped financially. Following is a brief description of the organization.

• Bosom Buddies Breast Cancer Support, Inc. is a locally based organization started in 1995 in Collier County and serves all of Collier County and Bonita Springs. They raise monies for the women/men who are uninsured and underinsured and facing the diag-nosis of breast cancer. The organization is run solely by volunteers, all of whom are breast cancer survivors or who have had their lives touched by breast cancer.

• They work closely with all of the local medical facilities providing services to their patients. They pay for various diagnostic procedures, lumpectomies and mastectomies. They help with the diagnosis and treatment for breast cancer. They also help their pa-tients with normal living expenses during this trying time if needed.

• Bosom Buddies is a 501(c)(3) non-profit. ONE HUNDRED PERCENT of funds raised are distrib-uted in our Southwest Florida community. To date, Bosom Buddies has provided more than $3.5 million in direct and in-direct aid.

For those facing a cancer diagnosis of any kind, know that most drug manufacturers have programs to help pay for medications. Your oncologist’s office can help you in getting financial assistance. For anyone in need of a wig, the American Cancer Society on US 41 North will give you two free wigs. They have a room at their office full of wigs -- you can bring home two and if you decide they are not right or if you need a change, bring them back for an exchange. Cancer Al-liance of Naples is another good resource for financial assistance.
