Class Specifications

Hunter Under Saddle/English Pleasure. Horses will be judged on their representation of the ideal hunter under saddle or saddle type English pleasure or dressage horse. The winner is the horse that most emulates the ideal type for its discipline. If entries the warrant hunter and saddle seat will be split. Hunt Seat/English Equitation no pattern. Riders will be worked both directions on the rail at the gaits required for each specific division—walk/trot or walk/trot/canter. Rider will be judged on the equitation ideal based on the type of English tack they are using (hunt seat, saddle seat or dressage.) The winner will be the rider that most demonstrates the ideal for their type of equitation. If entries warrant the hunter and saddle seat will be split. Western Pleasure Judging to be based on the ideal western pleasure horse standard for each horse’s individual breed. Western Seat Equitation Riders will be worked both directions on the rail at the gaits particular to each division walk/jog, walk/jog/lope. Riders will be judged on the western equitation ideal based on each horse’s particular type (stock or saddle type.) Walk/jog and Novice will not be asked to back. There will be no pattern. Western Horsemanship Riders will be asked to perform a pattern suitable to their division. No pattern will have a flying change of lead. Riders will then be worked on the rail at all gaits suitable for their division walk/jog, walk/jog/lope at least one direction of the ring

Additional Class Information Classes with a pattern or test will have a test that is appropriate for the

level of the division. No Equitation classes will have a pattern that requires flying changes of lead.

* Medal Classes will require one of the following tests. 1. A figure 8 at the trot or canter showing a change of diagonal, or

simple change of lead 2. Halt from the trot 3. Extended trot

Youth and Amateur may be combined if there are less than two entries in either division.

Awards

Ribbons first through sixth place for each class Award for first place winner of each class Halter Champions will receive a ribbon and award. Reserve Champion will

receive a ribbon High Point Champion Award and Reserve Champion Ribbon awarded for the one

horse/one rider combination accruing the most points in each Division for each show and for the GSEC 2011 Open Series Circuit Awards.

Division Classes consist of: Halter

Showmanship Hunter Under Saddle/English Pleasure Hunt Seat/English Equitation Hunt Seat Equitation on the Flat/English Equitation Medal Western Pleasure Western Seat Equitation Western Horsemanship

High Points Will be determined using the following system:

First place 5 points Second place 3 Points Third place 2 points Fourth place 1 point Fifth place ½ point Ties will be broken with the highest number of first places then second places etc., and then the number of horses placed over.

Each exhibitor must be a member of the GSEC Open Series Association (a one

time annual fee of $20.00) to be eligible for show and GSEC series Circuit highpoint awards.

Exhibitors wishing to compete for high point must make a declaration on their entry blank before showing.

To be eligible for high point you must compete in four of the division’s seven classes.

Halter Classes do count for series or circuit high point awards. Points will be awarded to declared division. Example: If a novice shows in class 15, Youth Geldings and they show in the novice division for the rest of the show, any points they earn in halter will go towards the novice division high point.

Division Descriptions Walk—Open to beginner riders of any age that are new to showing and have not been judged in a class that requires trotting/jogging. Exhibitors will show both directions of the ring at the walk.

Walk Pleasure will be judged on the horse/pony’s suitability as a beginner mount.

Walk Equitation will be judged on overall presentation, basic position and the rider’s ability to control their horse.

Walk Horsemanship will be judged on the same criteria as Equitation but riders will individually be asked to walk a 10 meter circle. Judged 70% on rail work and 30% on small circle

Riders in this division may not cross enter into any other classes at this show with the exception of halter and showmanship. Once a rider competes in a class that trots/jogs or canter/lopes they are no longer eligible to compete in the walk division. This class is intended to be a stepping stone into the walk/trot, walk/jog division.

Walk/Trot/Jog Schooling Horse/Pony—Open to any horse or pony for training or schooling purposes. May cross enter into classes that require a horse to canter or lope. May not cross enter into Walk/Trot/Jog Green Rider division. Training devices are allowed.

Walk/Trot/Jog Green Rider—Open to inexperienced riders or riders who have not been judged in the past three years (2008-2010) in a class that requires horses to canter or lope. Riders may not cross enter into any classes that require a horse to canter or lope. If a rider participates in a canter or lope class at any show they cannot go back to the Walk/Trot/Jog Green Rider division.

Novice—Open to riders who have never won 3 blue ribbons under 3 separate judges at any show in any discipline. A rider maintains his/her novice status for the entire year. Open to riders of all ages.

Youth—Open to riders 17 years of age and under. Age as of January 1 determines age for the year. Amateur—Open to riders 18 years and older who qualify as an amateur based on the criteria established by the American Quarter Horse Association. Age as of January 1 determines age for the year.

Open—Open to any horse or rider combination with the exception of those participating in Walk or Walk/Trot/Jog Green Rider.

General Rules Warning: Under Texas Law (Chapter 87, Civil Practices and Remedies Code) and

equine professional is not liable for any injury to or the death of a participant in equine activities resulting from the inherent risk of equine activities

Indemnity and Responsibility: Submission of an entry to this show constitutes agreement to the following: Exhibitor agrees to indemnity and hold Great Southwest Equestrian Center (GSEC,) the Show, the Show Committee and/or any Show Official, harmless against any and all claims, demands, costs, and expenses, including reasonable attorney’s fees for the defense thereof, arising from the conduct or management of Exhibitor’s business or its use of the premises or from any breach on the part of Exhibitors of any conditions of this Agreement, or from any act or negligence of the Exhibitor, its agents, contractors, employees, guests or invitees in or about the premises. In case of any action or proceeding brought against Great Southwest Equestrian Center, the Show, the Show Committee, or any Show Official, by reason of such claim, Exhibitor, upon notice from Great Southwest Equestrian Center, the Show, Show Committee, or any Show Official is not responsible for accidents, fire or theft. Property of Exhibitor left at Great Southwest Equestrian Center is at Exhibitor’s risk.

All horses on grounds must present a current (within 12 months,) negative Coggins test to the show secretary.

Although this is a schooling show we ask that participants wear proper attire. Chaps for western or jackets for English are not required but we ask that exhibitors wear collared shirts and appropriate foot and head wear. Failure to do so will be penalized at the judge’s discretion.

No youth may show stallions Horses or ponies do not have to be exhibited by the owner Show is governed by AQHA rules for stock type horses and USEF specifications

for Hunter/Saddle type horses except where decisions of GSEC management take precedence

Age is of January 1, 2011 for horses and riders All entry blanks must be filled out completely with all signatures. A method of

payment must be left with show secretary before numbers will be issued. Each horse must have a number, even if it is not showing. Failure to acquire a

number will result in eviction from show grounds and future participation at GSEC or non-GSEC sponsored events.

Hunt Seat and Saddle Seat English classes will be split if entries warrant.
