SERVICE for the WORSHIP of GOD
July 22, 2018 9th Sunday after Pentecost
THE WELCOME & ANNOUNCEMENTS Dr. King
WE GATHER TO WORSHIP
PRELUDE: Prelude on “Immortal, Invisible" arr. Robert Graham
THE CALL TO WORSHIP: Ella Johnson
Leader: Give thanks to the Lord, for God is good.
People: God's steadfast love endures forever.
Leader: In Christ we are no longer strangers.
People: We are members of the household of God.
Leader: Let us stand and worship God.
*THE HYMN OF PRAISE: #321 The Church's One Foundation AURELIA
*THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION: Holy, Triune God, we confess that we have not lived for Your glory.
You claim us as beloved children, but we do not honor Your name. You call us to paths of righteousness,
but we fail to follow Your way. Forgive us, God of grace. Break down the walls that divide us from You
and from one another, and build us up into a holy temple; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
*THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON:
Leader: Now stand firm in your faith, covered by the saving grace of God and ready to proclaim the gospel of
peace.
People: In the name of Jesus Christ, we are forgiven! Thanks be to God.
*THE GLORIA PATRI Hymnal p. 581
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost;
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
*SAYING WHAT WE BELIEVE: I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in
Jesus Christ His only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into hell; the third day He rose
again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty;
from thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic
Church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life
everlasting. Amen. (The Apostles' Creed)

THE PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION
THE FIRST LESSON: A unison reading of Psalm 23
The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: He leadeth me
beside the still waters. 3 He restoreth my soul: He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for His name's
sake. 4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for Thou art with
me; Thy rod and Thy staff they comfort me. 5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine
enemies: Thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. 6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow
me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever. Amen.
