Tim has been lent a film about hay-carting in the Coolamon area which he recommends viewing at our Films Night in
July.
Don’t forget the FILMS NIGHT !

PRESIDENTS REPORT.
Hello All.
We welcome more new members to our Club. Neville and Marj Cave were
accepted at our last meeting and I hope they enjoy their time with us.
We must thank member Ken McKay for the use of his gas heater at the last
meeting at Harden and thanks to all who travelled over.
The Swap meet committee will be meeting at the home of Barry and Lynn
Gavin on the 15th July at 7pm.
PLEASE try to give a little time to our swap as this is our major fund raiser and
keeps our subs low. Even an hour or two will be a big help. There is a list of
times which should be in this issue that will tell you what times that people are
needed. If not please contact Lynn and she will arrange a time for you. I hope
( work permitting ) to be there all day on Saturday and Sunday and will fill in
where needed. There are more than 117 stalls already booked so please help.
Saturday the 6th July is our SOUP, BUNS and OLD MOVIE/ SLIDE night. These
are very social nights and quite interesting as well. I hope to bring a guest with
slides of hay carting from a while ago. I think it is sheaf hay from around
Coolamon way.
As Alan Thompson will be away from the next meeting there are moves afoot
to delay the selection of the new numberplate surrounds until the August
meeting. If you have any ideas you may still bring them to this meeting for us
to look at.
Thanks to all who turned up to Harden for the Ken Thomas day. It was really an
excellent day and the Harden Truck and Tractor Club may make it an event in
opposite year after the Dubbo event.
See you all soon I hope.
Yours in leaking oil. Tim

Club Captain’s Report
Well members, here we are at the end of June and half of the year gone !
We have also used half of our time at the Tech College for the year. I would like to remind the club of how
lucky we are to have this facility available to us but, it would be great to have some more members coming
along and joining in.
If you need any information about this just speak to Alan Thompson or John Collins. The cost is only $100
for the next two terms.
The Swap Meet is only 6 weeks away.
Today is Tomorrow, just Yesterday.

eDitor’s report Some more good reports this month, thank you, so keep them coming, they are all very interesting and the
photos are great.
Having said all that, I did have a big problem this month as I’m having arguments with my internet, as a
result some articles that I said i would run this month are not there – the internet won’t give me access to
them – what a nuisance, but I will catch up with them.
Hope for an easier time next month.

PAST EVENTS: 18 & 19 May -- big weekend for Cootamundra Antique Motor Club -- That’s what I told
the local newspaper.
Saturday was THE FRANK DEBRITT MEMORIAL RUN
The late Frank DeBritt was a member who, in his retirement, restored a 1925 BUICK roadster and a 1927
CHEVROLET tourer. In his seventies Frank decided Vintage cars were not to the comfort he desired. So he
bought a 1938 OLDSMOBILE to use on club runs.
It was Frank who organised the first afternoon drive for hospital stroke patients. When Frank passed away,
the club continued with an annual afternoon drive and named it in his honour.
This Saturday was the 27th time our club has organised this run.
We had 26 elderly people to pick up and cater for. We had these vehicles to take them for the drive.
This year we went out the Berthong Road to Wallendbeen and back to Dickson Hall for afternoon tea,
cakes and goodies supplied by our wives.
And we donated $100 to the Uniting Church for the use of the hall.

A bit of gossip A Vw owner tells us that the Former President and “Big V8” owner was seen driving down the main
street of Cootamundra, in a more Economical vehicle, of all things a “Commodore “. So, Barry finally
converted you to a Good Car .... Paul !

SCROUNGED FACTS AND GOINGS ON
There was an inaugural motorbike rally held in Kangaroo Valley 24 – 26 May, just for 3-cylinder bikes.
Organised by the Triumph Register of Australia, the rally was open to Triumph Tridents and B.S.A. Rocket 3s, and
Hurricanes, to celebrate “all things triple”.
Denis Shepherd’s 1967 MORGAN has its photo
on the cover of “RESTORED CARS” May-June 2013.
Inside the magazine -- (which is on sale at your newsagent) --- is another article by R.P.B.
Canberra’s first car club – was . . . . . Veteran & Vintage Car Club – A.C.T.
It turns 50 this year.
To celebrate this milestone there is a Birthday Weekend 26 & 27 October.
BAY TO BIRDWOOD CLASSIC 2013
This year, to alleviate traffic congestion, the event has changed the tradition and will take the motoring event up the
Freeway.
Now in its 33rd year of operation, the Bay to Birdwood usually gets 1,700 vehicles on the drive -- Adelaide to
Birdwood National Motor Museum.
Registrations are now open : www.baytobirdwood.com.au
Wagga Wagga V & V Motor Club was formed in 1967. It has run the JUNE RALLY ever since.
Cootamundra branch of Sydney A.C.M.C. was formed in 1967 also.
PHOTOGRAPHERS ! Yass Antique Motor Club wants lots of photos to make a display in the park, with the cars, at the

Frank DeBritt Memorial Run means we take elderly people for a drive in our club cars. But elderly people might be just about to
go into a Retirement Village . . . where pets aren’t allowed .. .. And it happened that Ken Harrison got a passenger just about
to go into the Retirement Village . . . his passenger had a cat . . . which had to get a new home .. . . So, now the Harrisons have
a new . . . old cat. And seeing as the owner of the cat was moving away . . . she had some used furniture to dispose of . . . .
and our John Hambrook got some of her belongings, too, because he is Cootamundra’s second hand furniture dealer.
Look what can happen to you on the Frank DeBritt Memorial Run.
John Collins didn’t get a cat from his passenger. He got good information.
His passenger’s first car back in the 1930s, was a WHIPPET – cut-down into a ute. This was from Gordon Bateup -- an ex-
member of our club. Ten years ago he accompanied us in his 1964 CORTINA.
Council of Motoring Clubs (Sydney) --A Report of just a bit of its last Meeting: For National Heritage Motoring Day there were lots of venues around Sydney. Attendances at MotorLife Museum and Berry and
Menangle Steam Museum were the most popular.
Shannons Sydney Classic – 18 Aug. – at Eastern Creek Raceway -- 96 clubs have booked their sites so far -- might get 2000
vehicles. Will celebrate:
100 years of Aston Martin. 50 years of Porsche 911
60 years of Corvette. 100 years of Morris.
And 50 years of CMC -- The first of these combined club events was held at Warwick Farm racecourse in
1963. 10 cars that were present at the 1963 event, have entered their intention to attend this 50th
anniversary get-together of Sydney motoring clubs.
At the 1963 event – eligible vehicles were only Veteran, Vintage and Thoroughbred. Now it’s clubs that cater for V
& V and Classics. Page 10
The Australian Racing Drivers Club wants more advertising for the event.
The Australian Heritage Motoring Federation will petition the federal government to restrict the sale of heritage
vehicles out of Australia. An example would be the sale of a Veteran that competed in the 1905 Dunlop reliability
run. -- that might be on its way out of Australia.
More clubs applying for affiliation with C.M.C. are -- Pt Macquarie Heritage Car Club, and Southern Sporting Car
Club, and RangeRover Club, and Western Historic Truck Club.
The Dept. of Fair Trading had a seminar on Incorporation Associations covering Fund raising and raffles, etc. at Parramatta last
month. (Pity we are too far away to attend as this sounds like information we need to know.)
Thursday 6 June -- Cars from our
club visited the historic GUNDAGAI
RAILWAY STATION
Saturday 8 June -- John Collins finds a 6 cylinder,
horizontally opposed, air-cooled 1963 CHEV CORVAIR
to compare to his VOLKSWAGEN. Two of the 200
entrants to Wagga’s JUNE RALLY 2013.
That’s Doug Foster’s 1929 Ford next to the Corvair.
Doug is an ex-member of our club.
DRIPFEED & CRANKHANDLE -- Useful stuff and gossip gatherers.
Report on Members -

tests & at last Lynn Gavin has had her Operation. We wish them all well and a speedy recovery.

can do it with our own man/ women power by giving just a couple of hours each at
the most on the weekend. Members will find a roster in their magazine – would you
