These last couple of weeks at FBC have been full of news concerning our future. Some of that news has left us with some sadness and other news has been encouraging and exciting.

We were all saddened to hear that Father God has called Pastor James and his family to a new field of service. However, we are

excited for them and the possibilities that God has for them in Virginia. I hope that we will continue to covenant with them to pray for God’s leadership in their lives. They will be seeking a new home, new friends and new challenges in God’s Kingdom. Our church and each of us individually have grown and matured in our faith as a result of James’ leadership and friendship.

This past Wednesday evening at our quarterly business meeting, Calvin Featherston, chairman of our Personnel Committee, announced that Minister to Families Vince Smith will be preaching Sunday mornings and evenings through the summer for our church. I am excited for this opportunity for God to speak to us through this outstanding young man. I trust that you will also be praying for him and his family during this time of additional responsibilities and duties.

Also on Wednesday evening, our church voted overwhelmingly to proceed with the Properties and Finance Committees' proposal to update our CLC building. It has been many years since this building was truly renovated. Our Free 8th and Wednesday night youth programs are going strong and this will be helpful in the continued growth and development of those ministries. All monies for this update were given through designated funds and will not be a strain on our church budget. The work has already begun and should be completed in the fall.

Our Personnel and Nominating Committees are already meeting in preparations for the vote for a Pastor Search Committee and the filling of preaching responsibilities for the fall. Please be praying for these folks as they seek God’s direction for the future of His church. Also begin praying for who God would have you to vote for in the filling of the Pastor Search Committee. This is a huge task that needs to be addressed with ears open to God’s voice and with the much time devoted to prayer and to meetings. I know we all want God’s people for this responsibility that will move us forward in accomplishing the Great Commission.

Finally, be praying and be positive. This is God’s church and His decision. All of our personal agendas need to be set aside and we must be seeking His will. What we do in our own strength will surely fail.

We need to be faithful in attendance, giving, and mutual love and respect. Remember that joy is contagious, as is discouragement and pettiness. Let’s be a positive witness for the Kingdom during these days of transition!!

Thanks for just being you, Bill Gillum

5th SUNDAY FELLOWSHIP

All-Church Potluck

Bring your favorite potluck dish and join your FBC family for a great time of food and fellowship. The serving line area will be open before and after Sunday School so that you can leave your food for the lunch. If your food needs to stay warm, please make sure it is brought in a container that can be kept in the warmer in the church kitchen. It would be helpful if you would be responsible for your serving container and utensils at the end of the lunch.
