HOSPITALITY ROOM

Grand Chapter will be here before we know it. We are working on plans for the hospitality room. We are joining with the Distinguished Members’ Hospitality Room again this year. Hope you are planning on coming to Grand Chapter. It will be a Great Time! Thank you.

V. Christine Crain, Hospitality Chairman

The weather is getting warmer and the daylight is getting longer. That means that spring has arrived, I hope. It also means it is time to watch the flowers as they start peeking out to show there pretty colors. I’m sure many of you have started planting your vegetable gardens. It won’t be long until we see the lightning bugs lighting up our yards.

When I see the flowers starting to bloom I remember when we were growing up on May 1st we would make May Day baskets and leave them at our neighbors door. They were nothing fancy, just made out of colored paper and we would pick the pretty flowers that grew in the yard – you know those pretty yellow dandelions and the little purple violets and maybe some lily of the valleys. We were not to pick the flowers that were blooming around the walk or in the planters because someone might get mad.

Did you know that in 1925 two children hung May baskets on the White House front door? First Lady Grace Coolidge found the children and gave them flowers she had picked.

For centuries many cultures celebrated May Day as the first day of summer, even though it comes nearer to the start of spring. May Day is an astronomical holiday, one of the year’s four cross-quarter days; it falls more or less midway between an equinox and solstice.

I am looking forward to our next meeting in Springfield then Blue Springs and finally Columbia

where we will hold our election for the coming year. I hope to see many familiar faces at each of these meetings.

Treasurer “Cents” What an interesting spring—warm to cool to cold to wet to dry to warm and to warmer. All in all, Missouri has put on her beautiful “floral lace cloak” of white, pink, green, and purple for all of us to see as we drive from here to there, around our state, or in our own neighborhoods. Congratulations to our newly appointed Ladybugs and Laddy-bugs. May each of you enjoy your appointment, your travels, and your new friends that you will make. Also, a big THANK YOU!! goes to our current and past Grand Representatives who continue to support our wonderful club and our charities. It can truly be said that Missouri Ladybugs and Laddy-bugs are “on the move” as they work in their area clubs, keep up with friends they have made in Missouri and other jurisdictions, and attend the many MSMSGRC meetings scattered throughout our state. When anyone attends our Grand Representative Club meetings, it is good to see the red jackets of the Ladybugs and Laddy-bug because smiles will be seen on their faces and arms are opened ready to give and receive warm “huggy” welcomes. The Executive Board Meeting begins at 9:00 A.M., so the General Membership meeting can start at 10:00 A.M. to conduct its business and to keep everyone informed. All are welcomed to attend. As Treasurer, we are still collecting the yearly club dues of five dollars and the International Grand Representative Club dues of five dollars which lasts for three years. The IGRA dues are due when the next General Grand Session reconvenes in 2018. If anyone is in doubt about your dues, please check with the Secretary and Treasurer.

I wish everyone a pleasant spring, an air-conditioner that works especially if you suffer from allergies and pollens, a renewal of sprit, and blessings to appreciate all that we have been given. One of which is our Eastern Star sisters and brothers.

Phyllis Kolb, Treasurer

The Show-Me-State Grand Representative will hold their annual election of officers on July 24th, 2016. It is an advancing line so the current officers will advance and we will elect a new treasurer. To be eligible to run for the Treasurer position you will need to come from the South part of the state (the area outlined in blue) which includes chapters in the districts of 13, 14, 17, 18 & 20-29. Sister Lea represents the blue outlined area, Sister Grace represents the outlined area in Yellow, Sister Agnes represents the outlined area in Purple and Sister Phyllis represents the outlined area in red. If you have questions about running for office in the State Club see one of the officers. We look forward to seeing everyone at the meeting.

Honor Flight… for One of our Own

Do you think you know Leonard Stephenson, well maybe you do and maybe you don’t?

Our beloved Brother Leonard Stephenson, PGP was recently selected to fly to Washington D.C. on an honor flight to view the World War II memorial and Arlington Cemetery. As you know there are only a few WWII veterans remaining, two were on this flight with him. Leonard was the senior veteran in age. The others had served in Korea, Iraq and other world conflicts. On an Honor Flight an escort is assigned to each five to six veterans. Due to his age the escorts were eager to help him but he ask them to help the ones in wheelchairs or on crutches. Upon returning Leonard was told that anytime he would like to be an escort to let them know. Leonard was impressed when returning to St Louis as they were greeted by at least 500 relatives and others. His amazement continued when his bus was escorted out of St Louis by numerous police car and motorcycle riders numbering around 100. Upon returning to Columbia they were greeted by another crowd of about 150 people. A few unknown facts possibility tell us where he has earned the leadership qualities he has. He retired from the Army several years after his normal length of activity duty with the rank of Command Sergeant Major, the highest rank an enlisted man can obtain. During his service he met many people from around the world of which several were from Australia. Leonard has maintained contact and has visited Australia many times and would love to return some day. During one tour of duty he was serving in Japan when our President ordered the bomb to be dropped over Hiroshima, perhaps some of this energy is what keeps him so active. On a lesser note, Leonard made extra pocket money mending and sewing bars on other soldier’s uniforms. To this day he still uses his military uniform as he assists with military services. Leonard is still serving our Order by sending cards, playing for meetings and driving 100 to 200 miles a night to attend meetings. This is the man we all know as Leonard Stephenson, he is not only a veteran but as importantly he is our friend and PGP of Missouri.

LEONARD, WE THANK YOU FOR YOUR YEARS OF SERVICE TO OUR COUNTRY AND FRATERNITY.

Summer Meeting & Brunch Happy Spring! I hope each of you are ready for spring. I know I am and I'm looking forward to warmer weather and being outside in the fresh air. I hope you have reserved the weekend of July 23 and 24, 2016, cause you won't want to miss this. Both Saturday night and Sunday will be held at the Masonic Complex, lower level, in Columbia. Secretary Notes Chatter time again!!! Just a note from your secretary. We have been in St Louis, Jefferson City, Maryville, Poplar Bluff and Springfield meeting my sisters and brothers and making new friends. I hope to see you in Columbia for the talent show and fun on July 9th and the summer brunch on July 23rd and 24th. I will be taking dues for MSMSGC and for IGRA.

FOOTPRINTS One night I dreamed a dream: Some of our dreams can have a powerful effect on us. All of us have, at one time or another, awaken laughing or fretful—and all because of a dream. The Bible tells us about many people who had dreams and visions that were given to them by God. Some of our dreams are disappointing, but these are “wishful thinking” dreams, things we come up with in our own minds, circumstances or situations that we wish would happen. Only a small portion of these kind of dreams ever come true. In fact, these dreams can be harmful if we allow them to fill us with false hope. Yet we should not ignore our dreams. God will sometimes use our dreams to assure us of his promises or to tell us something about himself. And when God does speak to us in dreams, he will also help us understand them.

God said, “Listen to my words: “When a prophet of the LORD is among you,

I reveal myself to him in visions, I speak to him in dreams.”

Numbers12:6 God’s presence with us is no pipe dream. It is a reality. As we dream our dreams with the knowledge that god is with us, we will begin to see things as Christ does and dream dreams inspired by the Holy Spirit that are worth retelling and following. Margaret Fishback Powers Keep dreaming and they may surprise you what God has in mind for you. I hope you have a happy summer and will see you at Grand Chapter. The happiness of life is made up of minute fractions—the little, soon-forgotten charities of a kiss or a smile, a kind look or heartfelt compliment.
