RULES & REGULATIONS

I. LOCAL LEAGUES Leagues shall be organized within each district and shall play a round robinformat during the Spring (March-May), Summer (June-August), and Fall(October-December).

II. ELIGIBILITY A. Teams will be formed in the appropriate skill/age groups based on the

criteria below.B. If a player is 11 and under, he/she is eligible to compete as long as theirskill level is appropriate. Player must remain age eligible through the endof the season.

III. TEAM ROSTERS 

A. Team Rosters must be submitted by the deadline via TennisLink. Coachesshall register the team and be responsible for paying the Player Leaguefees using a credit card. The player league fee is $26 per player (USTAmember) and $29 per player (non-USTA member).

B. The Team League is $36, which includes official match balls and maskingtape (if required). Coaches shall submit a check payable to USTA/HPS,Attention: Mimi Kennell, 932 Ward Avenue #490, Honolulu, HI 96814.

C. A team roster must have a minimum of (4) players to form a team.

IV. SKILL DIVISIONS 

Coaches are responsible to use their best judgment when forming a team withplayers appropriately grouped by the following criteria:A. Orange Division – A player able to sustain a rally and execute serving; and

familiar with basic positions for singles and doubles.B. Green Division – A player with past experience in the Orange division.

V. MATCH PLAY FORMAT A. Orange Division (10 & Under)

1. Court layouta. 60’ x 21’ (singles court)b. 60’ x 27’ (doubles court)c. 21’ x 10.5’ (service box)

2. Each team match will consist of (2) Singles and (1) Doubles. Optionalscrimmage matches may be played with extra players present and courttime available.

3. A minimum of 2 players are required to play each team match.4. Each match will be best of three sets; 4-game sets; No-Ad scoring.

Players switch sides on every odd game. For the third set, the firstplayer to win seven points wins the match. The player that received last

in the second set shall serve first in the third set. Players alternateserves similar to the 7-point tiebreaker. Note: The maximum score

should never exceed 7-6.

5. Each match score will count towards the final team score. The winnerwill be determined by the total games won.

B. Green Division (10 & Under) – regulation court1. Each team match will consist of (2) Singles and (1) Doubles. Optionalscrimmage matches may be played with extra players present and courttime available.

2. A minimum of 2 players, is required to play each team match.3. Each match will be an eight (8) game pro set, No-Ad scoring with a 7-

point tiebreaker played at 7-all.4. Each match score will count towards the final team score. The winner

will be determined by the total games won.

VI. SCHEDULE OF PLAY A. Matches will be scheduled on Saturdays. B. Players and coach should arrive 30 minutes prior to the scheduled match

time. All players and coaches should be present when lineups areexchanged. Line-up introductions shall be conducted 5 minutes prior toscheduled match time. All matches shall start at the scheduled time.

C. Players are allowed an optional 5-minute warm-up, including practiceserves. Once a player has entered the court to play a match, he/she is notallowed to leave the court, except for the purpose of contacting his/hercoach or for a toilet visit.

D. The order of matches shall be singles first, then doubles second. The orderof matches may be altered with mutual agreement. Coaches may allowthe doubles to play before the singles if it will make the matches run faster.

E. Any player playing in both a singles and a doubles match shall be entitledto a 5-minute rest period between matches.

F. If a match was discovered to have been played incorrectly after itscompletion, the match played in good faith will stand.

VII. COACHES’ DUTIES A. All coaches and parent coaches (maximum of two per team), shall be

required to undergo a criminal background screening. The backgroundscreening is valid for one year and must be repeated after the completionof one year.

B. Before the match, print a blank scorecard by going online atteamtennis.usta.com 

1. Enter your match number, click ‘Go’2. Click ‘Print Report’

C. The home team coach shall be responsible for lining the courts andproviding (3) balls for each court. The home team is designated on theprinted schedule. Disregard the online published schedule and the printedhome team on the scorecard.

D. During the match.1. Coaches are responsible for the management of the team’smatches. If the coach is not able to attend a team’s match it isimperative the coach delegate a team parent to accompany the players.It is the responsibility of the coach to educate the team parent(s).

2. Coaching must be performed only by the team coach/parent duringchangeovers on odd games. Team coach/parents are allowed toremain on the court, however no other parents are allowed on the courtduring matches.

a. During the changeover, a maximum of 90 seconds shall elapsefrom the moment the ball goes out of play at the end of the game tothe time the ball is struck for the first point of the next game.

b. At the end of each set, if the number of games is even, thechangeover is not made until the end of the first game of the nextset.

c. At the conclusion of each set, there shall be a set break of amaximum of 2-minutes.3. To eliminate scoring disputes, coaches shall urge players to announce

the set score prior to his/her serve in each game and the game scoreprior to serving each point.

4. In settling a scoring dispute, coaches shall use their best judgment,which may consist of one of the following:

a. Counting all points and games played agreed on by the players, withonly the disputed points or games being replayed.

b. Resuming play from a score mutually agreeable to players.c. In the ultimate, a decision should be reached by a racquet spin.

5. In the spirit of good sportsmanship, coaches are responsible forexercising proper etiquette for team cheering.

6. Coaches are responsible for the safety of all players. Coaches shall usetheir best judgment and determine when play is unsafe and shall

suspend play if necessary (i.e., wet court conditions, stray balls in theplaying area, etc.)

E. After the last match.1. Indicate the players receiving Sportsmanship nominations by circling

their name at the bottom of the scorecard.2. Keep your copy for your own records.

VIII. DISTRICT FINALE All teams participating in season play shall be invited to compete in the

District Finale.
