introduction to CERN in EUDET
• The CERN PH (physics) department participates in EUDET
• PH department:~500 staff members~170 fellows and paid scientific
associates~ 4600 users
JRA2-brainstorming 4/1/2006, Lucie Linssen, slide 2
PH department main activity
Preparing the LHC experiments ATLAS, CMS (TOTEM), ALICE , LHCb

CERN participation EUDET
Given the fact that CERN is at present still overcommitted with LHC, the EUDET participation was chosen to be compatible with R&D activities already carried out in the PH department. In practice this means:
• => activities within the PH support groups
for Detectors – Electronics - Software • in absence of strategic decisions for post-
LHC => where possible, in synergy with future options for CERN

CERN participation EUDET
EUDET activities within the Detector – Electronics – Software support groups
• PH-DT1 (detector technologies)– JRA1 => magnetic field calibration
• PH-SFT (software for physics)– NA2 => hadronization simulation model
• PH-MIC (microelectronics)– NA2 => microelectronics user support– JRA2 => Timepix for SiTPC
• PH-ED (electronics design)– JRA2 => integrated compact gas detector
readout
