National anthem and a song made popular by Josh Groban “you raised me up”. In 2007 as a member of the service excellence committee and Organizer of the Martin Luther King committee at St. Vincent’s Medical Center where Joyce once served as an Assistant Director of Nursing, she received a recognition award and a letter of appreciation from the Executives, Sister Sheila and Deacon Novella for her excellent performance in making the event a memorable one. Ms. Asabor also performed at both campuses where she sang “His eye on the sparrow” a gospel hymn originally written in 1905 Cavilla D. Martin and Charles H. Gabriel. Her favorite song “you raised me up” a song written by the duo Secret Garden was also performed by her during the 2007 Martin Luther King celebration.

Ms. Asabor expressed with enthusiasm the joy in singing and would often say the song you raised me up written by the duo Secret Garden is a very appropriate song for anyone who has faith in God. She further explained that her life is an open book and that there are no secrets for anyone who is totally submitted to the will of God as the truth always prevails (Veritas et praevalebit) no matter how long it takes.

In 2013 after her recovery from a major

surgery, Ms Asabor on her first day back to work was invited to perform the blessing of the hand for the nurses week celebration at Bronx Lebanon Hospital where she was a Patient Care Manager until June of 2014.

The blessing of the hand ceremonies is part of a symbolic hospital tradition practiced around the world as human touch is an important component of health care. Since the time of Florence Nightingale in the 19th century, this is meaningful to all who provide care to the sick. This is a nono denominational ceremony performed especially during the Month of May when Nurses are recognized and given the special treatment they deserve for their dedication and care to their patients. Ms Asabor said she counts herself privileged to be called upon to perform the ceremony, since her ordination as a minister is not part of her job description.

Joyce Asabor of New York has excellent communication skills, and she interacts with people very politely. She knows Ibo, Youruba, and some Spanish. She believes in building strong relations with patients. She is a dedicated professional who spares no effort in serving people. In addition to work, she loves writing poetry, art work and the opera. free times, she likes spending time with her family. She is also a benevolent person who supports her Home Church, The Glory of God International Church where she is the Co-Pastor and Head of the Women’s Ministry- LADIES (Love All Despite InadequaciEs), an acronym Ms. Asabor said was given to her by inspiration from God.

Joyce Asabor, believes nursing is calling and it is not for everybody as you require patience, humility and compassion to treat the sick and listen to their concerns and complaints in order to know where and how to begin to address their issues. For Joyce nursing caring comes to her as second nature and she continues to show compassion and humility in her career as a nurse but regrets how some of these attributes are lacking in some quarters and are often abused or seen as a sign of weakness.
