The Tow Center for Digital Journalism at the Columbia Journalism School isseeking an Associate Research Scholar to act as the project director for a highprofile, multiyear project examining the relationship between technologycompanies and journalism. Under the working title "Platforms and Publishers"the twoyear program will deliver white papers, scholarly research and a seriesof events. This is a unique opportunity for the right person to actively helpshape the debate and make a significant contribution to the field.
The requirements for the Associate Research Scholar are: A deep anddemonstrable knowledge of the research field with their own published works,excellent project management and editorial skills, a track record in organizingsuccessful events with a strong academic or policy component, a thoroughunderstanding of the role technology plays in the transformation ofjournalism. Qualifications for a successful candidate would ideally be a PhDwith relevant experience in publishing or project management, howevercandidates with advanced degree who fit the requirements are stronglyencouraged to apply.
The successful candidate will be comfortable with the pressure of deliveringwork on tight deadlines and evolving priorities in a professional manner. Theymust have excellent judgment and be able to work in a fastpacedenvironment. The role requires coordinating the output of Tow researchfellows working on the project, as well as working with the Director of the TowCenter and the Research Director to shape and deliver the program. TheAssociate Research Scholar will report to the Director of the Tow Center andwork closely with the Research Director and Tow Center General Manageracross all aspects of the program, including: Assisting in the development of and refining of research topics; carrying outresearch tasks including conducting interviews, running focus groups, andanalyzing both qualitative and quantitative data Supporting conversations with representatives from companies, researchnetworks, etc. about the project and its findings Producing materials for a series of policy exchange forums, highlevelmeetings, and other activities Monitoring and amplifying the impact of the research program; helping toidentify opportunities and gaps to raise the profile of the project and theCenter as a whole Ensuring the project is meeting deliverable's in a timely manner; additionaltasks as needed
Any other duties needed to support the research process
Depending on funding and performance this position may be renewable for upto one additional year or part thereof.

Minimum Degree Required: Bachelor's or equivalent
Minimum Qualifications:
All applicants MUST meet theseminimum qualifications to beconsidered for the position.
