Mao Zedong's Great Leap Forward was a radical experiment in collectivization that had disastrous short- and long-term consequences throughout China.

The Cultural Revolution was intended to bring China together under Mao's policies but ultimately created divisions between the educated and illiterate and the rural and urban populations.

The textbook entry will focus on the Great Leap Forward and the Cultural Revolution.
