Walk in the Dark (details on page 12). There’s a not-so-scary time for younger visitors
and those who want a tamer haunted house experience.
Lastly, October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Turn to page 24 to learn

Take a fresh look at the ClubThe Club at McChord Field is complet-
ing the final touches of its year-long renovation. After the reopening, you’ll see more small conference spaces and a completely revamped area inside the res-taurant that creates a more streamlined customer flow. The menu is healthier and fresher as well.
“Customers are sure to enjoy healthy options with a built-in salad bar that features both salad staples and a variety of the day,” business operations manager Roger Disbrow says. “We’re also offering a
variety of premade sandwiches for dining
in or taking out, which can be heated
panini-style. We have a new pasta station
to-order that cooks the customer’s choice
of pasta and sauce while they watch. And
we’re definitely keeping customer favor-
ites at the grill, such as hamburgers and
chicken breast sandwiches.”
During the Club’s renovation, cater-
ing has still been available for patrons in
the ballrooms and conference areas. The
Club’s regular events, such as the annual
Thanksgiving Day buffet, haven’t been
affected.
The renovated restaurant is open to
everyone for weekday lunches. See the
complete menu at JBLMmwr.com.
The Club at McChord Field is located at
700 Barnes Blvd. at McChord Field.
Call 253-982-5581 for more informa-
tion.
Book your holiday parties nowThe Club is a popular venue for private,
unit, squadron and office holiday parties
with its large ballrooms, new conference
space, lounges and fireside room (with its
own bar, stage and room for dancing).

You’re seeing renovations at MWR eateries that
reflect new styles and ways of dining out — and that’s a very good thing!
The new Samuel Adams Brewhouse
JBLM has seven big screens for viewing
NFL, ESPNU, SEC games and UFC. A
variety of Samuel Adams brews are
on tap, along with a few local brews.
Cocktails are also served in the bar.
The concept pairs brews and decor
that reflect the original Samuel Adams
Brewery in Boston, Mass. — aging bar-
rels with wood staves, exposed brick and
copper kettles — reminiscent of an old
brewhouse where friends would gather
after a hard day’s work to unwind and
have fun.
The menu offers favorite bar appetizers
and hearty sandwiches, sliders, pizzas
and burgers.
The adjacent dining room is being
offered as a small conference space with
WiFi, with food catered from American
Lake Conference Center. During popu-
lar events, such as sports playoffs and
championships, the space may become
an overflow seating area.
Sam Adams is at 2400 Bitar Ave. and
Division at Lewis Main. For more details,
call 253-964-2012.
Whispering Firs debuts new outdoor party space
Picture a spacious patio that wraps
around the back of the clubhouse with
toasty fireplaces and lots of seating
overlooking the golf course. A covered
outdoor kitchen with a grill, cooler and
kegerator is located at the far end, close
enough to connect with Habañero Mexi-
can Grill’s kitchen without disturbing
patrons.
“We have the ability to be flexible and
creative, feeding golfers outdoors at large
tournaments and, on weekends, catering
to customers like what you see at outdoor
food-trucks,” business operations man-
ager Roger Disbrow says.
The outdoor living area is open to
everyone who dines at Habañero, not just
golfers. Come see for yourself!
Whispering Firs Golf Course and
Habañero Mexican Grill are located at
895 Lincoln Blvd. at McChord Field. Call
253-982-2124 for more information.
A new Samuel Adams Brewhouse JBLM to be built at Eagles Pride
Yes, you heard right — Samuel Adams
Brewhouse is creating another hot spot
for dining at Eagles Pride Golf Course
(this location is open to the general
public, as well as golfers).
The Caddy Shack has permanently
closed for renovations that will be
completed in mid-2017. Watch for more
information next spring!
Catering all around JBLMNow’s the time to book all your
holiday parties if you wish to use the

ises, but books events at Samuel Adams
Brewhouse JBLM’s conference room
and the Bistro at Russell Landing (while
it’s closed for regular business Oct. 15–
March 30).
For menus, pricing and options, visit
AmericanLakeConferenceCenter.com or call

equipment and supplies. If you’re a Club
member, you can book the Club mem-
bers’ room for free (the lounge across
from the barber shop). If you’re not a

Choose from events that make you scream with fright or pure delight — there’s something for everyone!
Dare to go on a Walk in the DarkConsider this fair warning: If you want
to scream like a baby, laugh hysterically
and feel ultra creeped out, this haunted
tour’s for you.
JBLM’s annual Theatrical Nightmare is
an interactive horror theater where you
become part of the show. Dare to enter
“A Walk in the Dark” at Shoreline Park, a
live Halloween event produced by BOSS

If you love haunted tours so much that
you can’t leave the little kids at home, a
not-so-scary time for younger children is
available Saturday, Oct. 29 from 3–5 p.m.
The freaks won’t seem so frightening and
the daylight will ward off the walking
dead.
Thursdays, Oct. 20 and 27, donate a
new, unwrapped toy, coloring book with
crayons or a game for Santa’s Castle and
you’ll pay only $5 per person.
The cost for other nights is $10 per
person ages 13 and older and $7 for ages
12 and younger. The not-so-scary day
costs $2 per person.
Due to the large number of people go-
ing through the event, safety is para-
mount and emergency exits are available
throughout the exhibits. Guests are
always led through the show by guides,
and personnel who are trained in first aid
are onsite.
Actors who want to take part in the
production and other volunteers are
welcome before the event begins. If you
don’t mind wearing a mask or theatrical
makeup, or if you prefer to work behind
the scenes, contact BOSS at 253-967-5636.

Trick-or-treat at JBLM Monday, Oct. 31, 6–8 p.m.
As your children start considering their costumes, take a few minutes to review these tips to make this year’s trick-or-treat-ing experience a safe one.• Ensure your child’s costume is brightly
colored and reflective. The costume should be short enough so they don’t trip and shoes should fit well.
• Consider using make-up or face paintinstead of masks so your child’s eyesight isn’t hindered.
• Bring along flashlights and/or glow sticks.Your child may enjoy wearing a glow bracelet or necklace.
• Always go with your child as they trick-or-treat, or send them with another responsible adult. For older children who go trick-or-treating with friends, agree on a route and a return time.
• Only go to homes with a porch light onand never enter a home or car for a treat.
• Remain on well-lit streets and always usethe sidewalk. If no sidewalk is available, walk at the far edge of the roadway facing traffic.
• Never cut across yards or use alleys, andonly cross streets as a group in estab-lished crosswalks. Never cross between parked cars or out driveways.
Parents, remember to sort and check your child’s candy before they eat any-thing. Rationing treats for the days after Halloween can help prevent a sugar high.
JBLM residents, check your housing newsletter for a “Trick-or-Treaters Welcome Here” sign. Post if you’re participating. Families, look for these signs on doors at JBLM houses while trick-or-treating.

Substance abuse prevention joins afcsReduce lifestyle risk factors for healthy outcomes for AFCS-SAP
JBLM AFCS is excited to announce

AFCS SAP provides education and
early intervention to help commanders,

mission readiness and proudly serving

Learn warning signs and what you can do to help someone in an abusive relationship
Many articles have been written about the impact of domestic violence on survivors. In the incidents where victims are killed, loved ones are often left to deal with the pain and grief. Nothing in life prepares survivors for the tragedy of losing a loved one to murder by an intimate partner.
Join Lane Judson at the Club at McChord Field Friday, Oct. 21 as he shares the powerful story of his daughter Crystal Judson Brame. After years of abuse within her relationship, Crystal was killed by her police chief husband, David Brame, who then killed himself. On her deathbed, Patty and Lane Judson promised Crystal to do something so that others wouldn’t have to go through what she did. Judson will discuss warning signs and what can be done to help others who may be in an abusive situation. The Crystal Judson Family Justice Center in Tacoma serves as a memorial to keep her name alive and as a testimonial to the reality of how deadly domestic violence situations can be.
To register for the JBLM Domestic Violence Awareness Training and to hear Lane Judson share his story, go to JBLM-dv-training-2016.eventbrite.com. Light refreshments will be available; registration is limited.
