INTRODUCTION & SAMPLE DAY-BY-DAY ITINERARY

THE HOLY LAND: IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF JESUS: If you desire to draw closer to Jesus of Nazareth, come, as we follow in His footsteps. Each day of your pilgrimage you will have time to renew and affirm your faith; to pray and reflect. The Scriptures will come alive as you visit Our Lord's homeland. You will be inspired by the natural beauty of the landscape, in addition to its rich historical heritage It is an encounter that has changed the lives of many pilgrims, an act of faith and prayer. Pilgrims have been traveling to the Holy Land for hundreds of years, and as part of your pilgrimage, we include many of the rich traditions that have evolved over time. The maxim at the entrance to the Church of the Nativity says: “We are hoping that: If you enter here as a tourist, you would exit as a pilgrim. If you enter here as a pilgrim, you would exit as a holier one.” We pray that the same will occur when you join this 206 Tours pilgrimage.

Day 1, Mar 15, Sat, Departure to the Holy Land Depart for your overnight flight to the Holy Land. Day 2, Mar 16, Sun, Arrive Tel Aviv. Transfer to the Galilee On arrival in Tel Aviv you will be met by the 206 Tours representative and transferred to your hotel in the Tiberias. Day 3 and 4, Mar 17 and 18, Mon and Tue, Retreat Spend a free day in Tiberias for retreat. Overnight Tiberias. Day 5, Mar 19, Wed, Tiberias: The Sea of Galilee Theme: The Ministry of Christ in the Galilee, Banias This day we start at the Mount of Beatitudes, scene of Jesus’ great Ser-mon on the Mount. Then to Tabgha where Jesus fed the crowd of 5,000 and onto the site known as “Peter’s Primacy”. Here, after His resurrec-tion, Jesus met with His disciples and told Peter to “feed my lambs; feed my sheep.” [John 21:9]. A short drive away is Capernaum, from where Jesus launched his Ministry; see the synagogue which dates to the time of Jesus and the church built over the site of Peter’s home. Celebrate Mass in this special place. In the afternoon drive up to Caesarea Philippi, where Jesus told St. Peter “You are the Rock, and upon this rock I will build my Church.” Mass at the Primacy of Peter, located on the shores of the Sea of Galilee. Overnight Tiberias. Day 6, Mar 20, Thur, Cana, Nazareth, Mt. Tabor In the morning, visit Cana, where Jesus performed His first miracle at the request of His mother [John 2:1-11]. There, visit the Franciscan chapel where those who wish to can perform the renewal of their wed-ding vows. Drive to Nazareth, the site of Mary’s home and the town where Jesus lived as a child. At Nazareth, celebrate Mass in the Basilica of the Annunciation, and visit the Byzantine Church of St. Joseph and Mary’s Well. Head to Nazareth Village, a careful recreation of what a Galilean village would have been like at the time of Jesus. End the day at Mount Tabor, the site of the Transfiguration, with time to reflect on Christ’s Humanity and Divinity. Overnight Tiberias. Day 7, Mar 21, Fri, Mukhraka, Haifa, Caesarea, Jerusalem After breakfast drive to Mukhraka; the Monastery here commemorates Elijah confronting the prophets of Baal. We then stop at Stella Maris, a Carmelite Monastery with the Madonna of Mt Carmel. After Mass here and enjoying the view of the bay of Acco, Continue on to Caesarea, which was once the ancient capital of the Ro-man province. Here you view the impressive archaeological remains of the Roman and Byzantine city that once dominated the region. It was at Caesarea that Peter came to understand that the Good News was not for Jews only, but for the whole world. Here he baptized the Roman Centu-rion, Cornelius, and his family. It was from Caesarea that Paul set sail for Rome, an event that eventually brought Christianity to the World. Overnight Jerusalem. Day 8, Mar 22, Sat, Jerusalem: Temple Model, Bethlehem Begin the day with a visit to the Second Temple scale model for an over-view of Jerusalem as it was at the time of Jesus. A short drive takes us to the village of Ein Karem, birthplace of John the Baptist, to visit the church that commemorates his memory. After a break for lunch on our own drive to Bethlehem to see the cave at the Shepherds’ Field. The caves have soot marks of the fires that shepherd’s lit to keep warm while watching over their flocks. Then on to Bethlehem, beginning at Manger Square which stands in front of one of the oldest of Christian churches, the Church of the Nativity. Enter the Church and down to the Grotto of the Nativity which marks the spot of Jesus’ birth. Beneath the Altar, there is a silver star with the Latin inscription: HIC DE VIRGINE MARIA JESUS CHRISTUS NATUS (Here Jesus Christ was born to the Vir-gin Mary.) After Mass at the Church of St. Catherine return to the hotel in Jerusalem. Day 9, Mar 23, Sun, Bethany. Jericho, Baptismal site, Qumran We first visit Bethany where He raised Lazarus from the dead. Celebrate Mass. We drive to Jericho, the world’s oldest continuously inhabited city, to view the Mt of Temptation and see an example of a Sycamore Tree. We then stop at the Baptismal site at Qasr el-yahud. We then travel to

Qumran where the Dead Sea Scrolls were found. Drive through the Ju-dean Wilderness where Jesus spent 40 days fasting. If time allows, we have the chance to swim in the Dead Sea before returning to the ho-tel .Overnight Jerusalem Day 10, Mar 24, Mon, Jerusalem: Mt. of Olives, Gethsemane, Mt Zion From the Mount of Olives take in the panoramic view of Jerusalem. Then to the Pater Noster shrine, where Jesus taught His disciples the Pater Noster — The Lord’s Prayer (Luke 11:1-4). Walking down the Palm Sun-day Road stop at the beautiful little church, Dominus Flevit - “The Lord wept.” It was here that Jesus wept over Jerusalem [Luke 19:41]. At Gethsemane reflect on Jesus’ final night. The Garden contains trees, the roots of which go back to the time of Jesus. Visit the Church of All Na-tions to pray at the “Rock of Agony,” a section of bedrock identified as the place where Jesus prayed alone in the garden on the night of His arrest. From there, take the route through the Kidron Valley along which Jesus was taken as a prisoner to the house of the High Priest Caiaphas where He was interrogated and imprisoned. Now called Peter in Galli-cantu (“crowing rooster”), this beautiful Church also commemorates Peter’s Denial of Christ, his repentance and then being forgiven by Je-sus. Here we celebrate Mass. After Mass go up to Mt. Zion to visit the Upper Room, which commemorates the Last Supper. Nearby is the Ben-edictine Church of the Dormition. Overnight Jerusalem Day 11, Mar 25, Tue, Jerusalem; Via Dolorosa, Holy Sepulchre, Old City, Western and Southern Wall This morning we start the Via Dolorosa (The Way of the Cross) at the Antonia Fortress, where Jesus was condemned to death by Pontius Pi-late. From there He was taken through the city to be crucified. The Sta-tions of the Cross lead, through the markets of the Old City to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. Here is the site of Calvary and the Tomb of Christ. Mass in the Church of the Holy Sepulcher. We then continue our day with a visit to the steps of the Southern Wall of the Temple Mount ponder the Presentation of Jesus at the Temple, the finding of Jesus at the Temple and the healing of the blind man at the Temple. See the Western Wall of the Temple. Overnight Jerusalem Day 12, Mar 26, Wed, Taybeh , Jacob’s Well, Samaria Start the day at Taybeh, a Christian village on the edge of the Judean Wilderness. The village is linked to Ephraim ( John 11:54) which is where it is thought Jesus and his disciples sought refuge after the Coun-cil of Priests asked for his execution. The village has been a Christian outpost ever since and there you will be able to see an ancient farmers house. In such a house farmers would have lived in and kept their ani-mals in the manger below in the time of Jesus‘ birth. You will be able to celebrate Mass here in the church where local Catholics have practiced their faith for generations. Then head north through Samaria, a land rich in Old Testament history. Passing Shiloh, where the Ark of Covenant was kept and through the beautiful Levonah valley, referred to in Judges as the Valley of the Dancers. We see the twin peaks of Mt Gerizim and Mt Ebal, known in the Old Testament as Mt. Blessing and Mt Cursing. Mt Gerizim is today the home of the few remaining Samaritans. We stop at Jacob‘s Well; hewn out of solid rock and over 100 feet deep. As it is manually dug out it is most certainly the same well mentioned in the Gospel of John. The water at the bottom of the well is fed by flowing water, which is why ancients gave it the name of “living water”. It is at this well that Jesus met the Samaritan woman and said to her: "Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life." Many Pil-grims drink the water from this very well from which Jesus drank. We return to Jerusalem for dinner & the evening. Overnight Jerusalem Day 13, Mar 27, Thur, Ein Karem, Emmaus, Jaffa, Transfer to Airport This morning visit the beautiful village of Ein Karem, birthplace of John the Baptist, to visit the church that commemorates his memory. Pray the Mystery of the Rosary on the walk up the hill to the Church of the Visitation. Continue to visit Abou Ghosh, probably site of Emmaus, where Jesus appeared to the two Disciples after the Resurrection. Here visit the lovely Crusader church and meditate in the beautiful gardens tended by the nuns. Return to hotel. In the late afternoon, drive to Ancient Jaffa. Enjoy a farewell dinner before transferring to the airport for your late-evening flight home. Day 14, Mar 28, Fri, Arrive Home Departure shortly after midnight for your return flights to New York with memories for a lifetime.
