The past 10 weeks have changed and impacted every business and everyone’s lives. Businesses have pivoted to adjust to the impact of COVID-19. Some had to close their doors; others have changed how they do business by offering curbside. Some have asked their employees to avoid attending any get together outside of the workplace, while others have moved to selling products online. Some have shifted work schedules to accommodate cleaning between shifts; others have repurposed staff to work differently.

As businesses continue to change their processes and begin to reopen their doors, please remember every business is changing and reopening in its own way. This means we may need to call first, wait, and may be asked to wear a mask.

As a part of the #WeHeartHudsonWi campaign, the Hudson Chamber commissioned this poster for businesses to use to share their new process and changes. If you would like to post this in your business, please contact me and I will get one to you.

Thank you for supporting our local businesses and thank you to all the businesses for the energy you are putting into keeping your staff and customers safe.

We want to take it slow until we know. We want to do this right, so we only have to do it once.

Be Patient. Be Kind. Keep Others in Mind.

Congratulations to Mike Sime with Mike’s Standard (BP) Service for 50 years in business on June 1, 2020. Owner Mike Sime has been the service guy since he came to Hudson in 1965 to work for his cousin’s husband, Wayne Watson, at the Service Station he now owns. Through the years it has been a Standard Oil, Amoco, and now a BP service gas station.

In 1979, Mike and his wife Ali, bought the Standard Station in downtown Hudson at 202 S. Second Street which is now the Holiday Station. Mike ran that station for 7 years then purchased the Standard (now BP) on the hill. Mike has survived on service and customer relations. He knows most customers by name, kid’s names, car makes and even dog’s names. They also had a tow truck fleet to service semi-trucks and accidents on I-94.

Through the years, Mike has participated in Partners In Education, helping and training many of Hudson’s youth. They

have had some amazing employees, one in particular is Mike’s manager Steve Wettleson, who has been with him for over 42 years. Their current competent auto tech, Nate Schroeder is also a Hudsonite.

In 2005 Mike was awarded the Small Business of the Year Award from the Hudson Chamber and has been a member of the Chamber for over 40 years.

Mike always greets you with a smile and a handshake. A customer never leaves the station without Mike or one of the employees stating, “Thank you and have a nice day.”

Mike and Ali thank everyone in the Hudson community for their support that last 50 years.

We want to recognize your business anniversary. If you are celebrating 1 year, 5 years, 10 years, 15 years, 20 years, 25 years and beyond in 2020, please contact us.

Hudson Area Library Director Tina Norris has resigned effective June 12 to take a position at the Person County Library in Roxboro, North Carolina.

"Tina is a talent that comes along once in a lifetime,” said Paul Berning, the library board president and a newly elected supervisor in St. Croix County. “Her dedication to the community, along with providing the highest value library services to the taxpayers, will be very difficult to replace. We wish her all the best success as she moves into a new chapter in her life."

The library's Board of Trustees appointed two staff members to serve as interim co-directors: Madeline Page, technical services coordinator, and Shelley Tougas, adult and youth services coordinator. They will continue to lead their departments while working as interims.

During Norris’ nearly five-year tenure, library hours expanded; new technologies were developed, including the creation of an iLab; participation in programs grew significantly; and new STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) opportunities became a primary focus.

Norris said she accepted the position to be closer to her family, including a new grandson. “This was a tough decision. I’m grateful for the opportunities I’ve had here. I’ll miss all the people who’ve been involved with the library, especially my amazing staff, the Library Board, Foundation, and Friends group. It’s been an honor and a pleasure to be a part of this community, and I’ll leave a little piece of my heart here in Hudson.”
