ER MESSAGE: I cannot begin to express the honor and gratitude I feel as I begin my year as the ER of Johnson City Elks Lodge 2821. As I have told many of you before, our lodge has a tremendous amount of respect throughout New York State. As Phil and I traveled during his year as State President, the lodge's reputation preceded and at times exceeded me! We are going to have an amazing year. I want to extend my most sincere thanks to the PERs who have gone before me and paved the way, and the incredible team of officers who have agreed to take this journey with me. With Gayle Klein, Officer or the Year, as my team's Leading Knight; Hope Woodcock, Elk of the Year, as my team's Loyal Knight; and Alicia Beck(PER), Citizen of the Year, as my team's Chaplain, I feel as though I've already succeeded. Rounding out the team is Leona St. Clair, our seasoned Lecturing Knight and resident bagpiper, Deb Valenta (PER) and Esquire extraordinaire, Liz Laughlin, Inner Guard, and one of our youngest members, and Bruce Deling, Tiler, the only male member of the team. I also am proud to present the South Central District's first all female Ritual team. I want to express my gratitude to all who attended the Installation of Officers on Saturday, March 23rd. It was a beautiful ceremony attended by several of our members and several members from other lodges. The installation went off without a hitch, and the food was delicious. Again, many thanks to all who contributed and to SVP Sharon Flint for her help organizing the event. We again lived up to our motto "The Little Lodge that does Big things". Did YOU know!

A column dedicated to keeping us connected!”

    • Congrats to Micah Neiss and Morgan Cluck! Micah is the grandson of Connie and Jack Carle and Doug and Kathy Neiss’s son. Micah played the part of the Reverend in the musical Foot Loose. Morgan Cluck is the granddaughter of Connie and Jack. She played the lead female role! The play was presented by the Johnson City High School Music Department.

    • Congrats to the family of Ben and Lori Cabot! They celebrated the marriage of their daughter Desiree. She is now Desiree Byce.

Did You Know all four of your Lodge Officers are involved in the medical field?

    • Lecturing Knight Leona St Clair is a UHS Certified Pharmacy Technician and Pharmacy Buyer.

    • Loyal Knight - Hope Woodcock is a Director of Nursing and Clinical Educator at Bleeding Disorders Resource Network.

    • Gayle Klein is a UHS Pharmacist. • Sue Whalen is a UHS Director and Supervising Pharmacist.

There are so many stories of how they have assisted and supported our members. Thank you for your skill and caring. Did you know April 1

st starts a new Elk Year? We offer many thanks to our outgoing ER,

Dino Christopher. You faced a year filled with challenges and guided us through. The lodge thanks your wonderful wife, Rita for being by your side (and keeping you in line!) Welcome to our new ER, Sue Whalen as she faces the promise of a new year!

Note from the Editor: Just wanted you all to know that I am retiring as editor of

our newsletter after all these years. It has been fun but it is now time to turn it

over to others. Sue Whalen, Leona St Clair and Gayle Klein have agreed to take it

over. I will be doing the May edition and then they will take over in June. Best

wishes to them, I know that our newsletter will get even better.

And on another note, congratulations to all of our new officers, trustees and

committee people. What a great lodge we have! And this is a first for us and for

all I know it may be a first time anywhere; we will have an all female ritual team.

Elkdom has come a long ways!

Baker’s Needed Every Friday! Part of our Friday dinner appeal is our homemade desserts. We are looking for members to sign up for a set Friday i.e. 1st Friday, 2nd Friday, 3rd Friday, 4th Friday of each month to donate a dessert. Ideally if 4 to 5 people could sign for each Friday it would help us not needing to make phone calls. Many churches do this, and we thought it would cut down the confusion and calls to members. Our Friday dinners help pay the monthly bills at our lodge so we can keep our dues low. If you haven’t stopped in for one lately…I highly recommend it as a great buy for $8! Please contact me to sign up 607-222-8412 or email [email protected] Thank you, Hope Woodcock
