Head Teacher: Neil Blackwell

Enough has been said about all the challenges of this year. It’s time to look forward to September!

We will hopefully be reverting to our ‘usual’ school day, though that seems so long ago that

nobody can remember what it is! The times of the school day will be:

You will most likely be able to enter and leave by whichever gate is most convenient for you, but please remember to

leave enough time to get here and be considerate to our neighbours if parking. School starts for Years 1 to 6 children on

Thursday 2nd September and for Nursery and Reception on Monday 6th September.

Lunchtime will revert back to one hour long which will be great for children (and teachers!). Activity Clubs will also restart

and we will write to you again about this in September. We hope that many children will challenge themselves to try

something new – it’s all part of preparing for Life in all its Fullness!

Wishing you all the very best,

Neil Blackwell

There will be two Holiday Clubs at St Leonard’s this summer:

Banbury United summer football camp 2nd-5th August and 23rd-26th August, based in the Diamond Building and

on the field

Linguatots 23rd-27th August, based in the Hall and on the KS1 playground

The former has already been advertised on Class Dojo and we’ll make sure that all details are on the school website.

Holiday Clubs

We are also relaunching our After School Club in September. We are pleased to announce the appointment of Michelle Bliss as Manager and she is looking forward to working with Rosie and Tasha to make provision even better for our children. We have listened to feedback and there is an option to attend up to 4.30pm next term, instead of paying for the full session to 5.50pm. We are improving food, too; snacks will be provided pre - 4.30pm and a meal at around 4.45pm. All the details have been sent out to the whole school by email this week, please speak to the office if you have not received it so we can check your contact details.

One small change that we are introducing for September is

that no indoor shoes will be needed in Reception. This is

something which we are trialling and, if successful, we may

extend this across the school.

Uniform

The PTFA is our Parents, Teachers and Friends Association. It does an excellent job at supporting the

children of our school and has historically arranged lots of fundraising activities such as discos, film

nights, Easter competitions and Christmas and Summer fayres. Even this year, during COVID, it has

bought hoodies for Year 6 and donated over £500 for the Nursery children to have new furniture.

Next year we have a full programme of events planned, and the Circus arrives in town on Friday 17th September which will

have room for 600 children and parents to experience the show on our school field (in 3 different sittings). Tickets will be

£7 each, which means that a family of 3 will pay less than the cost of ONE ticket at some of the larger circuses.

If you would like to join, help, or offer ideas then please get in touch with [email protected] or come along to the AGM (Annual General Meeting) on Monday 6th September at 7.00 pm in the Diamond Building. You can even join via Zoom if you prefer!

Grand Opening of the new

Library

Dates for your diary ...

It has been lovely to see some of the new Reception

children visiting school ready for September. Mrs Pratley

and Mrs Pendle held a lovely Zoom session for new

parents, too, and we hope to be able to give you details of

an extra Stay and Play session on the school field towards

the end of the summer holiday so that children can meet

each other and make new friends. We’ll keep you posted!

New Reception Children

We are making great progress on getting our new library

ready for September, when we hope we will be able to

have visitors into school again. The Official Grand Opening

is pencilled in for Friday 1st October and this will be a

chance to have drinks and cake in the school hall, which is

handily placed next door!

If any of our leavers’ families feel able to give a donation to

help us purchase new books for children to enjoy then this

would be greatly appreciated, so that others can also

benefit from a great start to life at St Leonard’s.

If you don’t ask…!

Donations for Library

Next week is Global Learning Week

when children will be learning about all

different countries and cultures around

the world. Respect and tolerance are

important values at St Leonard’s and

Year 3 and Year 4 had a visitor last week,

Ibrahim, who told the children about

Hajj, the great annual pilgrimage to

Mecca, and demonstrated the clothes

that every pilgrim wears. Hajj takes place this month, as

does Eid-ul-Adha of course. All schools in Banbury are

pleased to authorise 2 days absence for this important

religious festival.
