History of Tampere

Tampere was founded in 1779

Founder was the Swedish King Kustaa III

The first people moved to Tampere in 1780

1865 fire destroys the center of Tampere

Because Tampere was an important industrial city it became a target for many bombings by the Soviet Union during WW II.

Jobs in the pastIn 1830’s different jobs were for example dyer, tanner, tailor and shoemaker. There were also many factories:

paper factory,

metal industry: they made ships, steam engines, locomotives, paper machines, turbines and bicycles.

textile factory - Tampere was the most important textile city in Finland.
