Main Duties and Responsibilities of the Role 

The specific duties of the Network Facilitator will be as follows:

•  co-organisation of workshop and symposium

•  co-ordination and liaison with UK and international partners

•  construction and maintenance of a project website

•  construction and maintenance of project image bank (linked to website)

•  compilation of working project bibliography (in consultation with Principal Investigator)

•  management of network budget

The major responsibility of the Network Facilitator will be to assist in the organisation of the network’s symposium,currently scheduled for September 2014. The Network Facilitator will be involved at micro and macro levels ofadministration required for this event, including publicity, programming, assisting participants with accommodationand travel arrangements, and monitoring expenditure. The Network Facilitator will take responsibility for creatingand updating a website which will provide a portal for the network and a resource for participants in the symposium.The Network Facilitator will work with participants in the symposium and relevant network partners to compile animage bank, consisting of images of European and Islamic maps 1100-1600 chosen by partners and participantsthat will be addressed and analysed at the symposium. Finally, the Network Facilitator will compile a workingbibliography, to be updated regularly, drawing on contributions from the Principal Investigator, visitors, partners,and participants.

Timetable

The Network Facilitator’s period of employment will extend from two months prior to the network workshop to onemonth after the completion of the symposium. The Network Facilitator will work on average two days per week,except in the week leading up to the symposium when s/he will work full-time. The Network Facilitator will report ona weekly basis to the Principal Investigator.

The Network Facilitator’s timetable is as follows:

!  familiarisation with nature, aims and extent of network; briefing by Principal Investigator and networkvisitors

!  initial contact with network partners

!  contribution to organisation of workshop!  commencement of construction of website.

September 2013!  attendance at workshop (10/9), and development of contacts with network partners and participants at

workshop

!  post-workshop liaison with network partners and participants; resolution of outstanding reimbursementsarising from workshop

!  continued construction of website.

October 2013!

  completion of website!  co-ordination of invitations to selected participants in symposium!  initial compilation of bibliography, involving some basic research on network’s topic

!  establishment of contacts with cognate projects on exchange between Islam and Europe.
