Michigan Lead Safe Home Program

• Goal: To make homes lead-safe for the youngest populations statewide

• HUD and State (NEW!)-funded residential lead remediation program

• Nearly 2,000 homes made lead-safe to date

State Gives Lead Safe Home

• In June, Michigan Legislature Awarded MDCH $1.25 Million in General Funds for Lead Abatement

• Based on dedicated work from Michigan Environmental Council, Michigan Alliance for Lead Safe Housing (MIALSH) and lead advocates, like you!

• Funds will be utilized statewide

• MIALSH needs lead advocates like you!

Which Areas Do We Work?

Where Do We Need Contractors?

Everywhere!

Target Areas: Bay, Calhoun, Hillsdale, Ingham, Jackson, Kalamazoo, Macomb, Oakland and City of Detroit.

EBLS outside of these areas where there is no local program.

What Kind of Work Does LSHP Provide?

• Includes components such as:Window and Door ReplacementSidingPorch WorkPainting/EncapsulationOther Lead WorkHealthy Homes Work

• All work is based on Lead Inspection/Risk Assessment Report

• Combination Abatement & Interim Controls

We Need YOU!• Simple Application Process, available online

at www.michigan.gov/leadsafe

• Applications reviewed for approval within 2 weeks of submission.

• Applications also available TODAY (back table)!

Pre-Qualificationso Must be Michigan Lead Abatement Contractor and RRP

certified o Must have one full year of experience as Abatement

Contractor OR Lead Professionalo Must carry appropriate insurance (next slide)o Must be licensed Residential Builder (LARA)o Must not have had citation within last year 3 years or

been terminated from local program.

Insurance Requirements

• General Liability Insurance: $1,000,000• Worker’s Compensation• Lead/Pollution Liability Coverage: $1,000,000 (must

have at least applied for policy at time of application, must have in place at project award)

Working for LSHP

• 2 week payment period• Work continues throughout year• $570,000 awarded in contracts in FY 2012.• Estimated $1,000,000 in contracts will be awarded in FY

2014 (HUD and State General Fund).• We NEED you!
