Introduction According to the 2014 World Economic Forum Global Risk Report only two nations have a higher youth unemployment rate than South Africa. This growing issue is posing serious challenges to South Africa’s ability to compete as a regional leader, continue to grow and address continued social injustices. We believe there is an important aspect to this matter that is often overlooked, something we work towards everyday: leadership. By creating responsible and entrepreneurial young leaders we will see a growing number of job-creators who build sustainable business and lead based on values not greed. If we can create more young leaders in South Africa and the world, we will see fewer conflicts and more collaboration toward a better world for all. Specifically in South Africa we can realistically try to achieve the National Development Plan if we can trust our youth to be at the forefront of the required change. About AIESEC AIESEC is the global youth network impacting the world through leadership development experiences. AIESEC has been facilitating youth leadership activities as well as international internships and volunteer experiences for over 65 years, developing a truly global learning environment. In South Africa, we have been engaging and developing young people since 1958, and each year we facilitate over 200 international internships, involving over 400 people in our activities.

Introduction

According to the 2014 World Economic Forum Global Risk Report only two nations have a higher youth

unemployment rate than South Africa. This growing issue is posing serious challenges to South Africa’s

ability to compete as a regional leader, continue to grow and address continued social injustices.

We believe there is an important aspect to this matter that is often overlooked, something we work towards

everyday: leadership. By creating responsible and entrepreneurial young leaders we will see a growing

number of job-creators who build sustainable business and lead based on values not greed.

If we can create more young leaders in South Africa and the world, we will see fewer conflicts and more

collaboration toward a better world for all. Specifically in South Africa we can realistically try to achieve the

National Development Plan if we can trust our youth to be at the forefront of the required change.

About AIESEC

AIESEC is the global youth network impacting the world through leadership development experiences.

AIESEC has been facilitating youth leadership activities as well as international internships and volunteer

experiences for over 65 years, developing a truly global learning environment. In South Africa, we have been

engaging and developing young people since 1958, and each year we facilitate over 200 international

internships, involving over 400 people in our activities.

The next event: July Leaders’ Summit

We believe the power of a group of motivated, capable, and energized young people can truly change the

world. For this reason, we gather twice a year some of the brightest individuals in the country for

unforgettable events where we provide real life business skills training, corporate exposure, and forums to

discuss societal issues. Together, we develop the future strategy for our organisation and we plan how to

reach more young people through our internship programme.

Target: 80-100 University students from 10 South African campuses

When: June 30-July 4

Where: Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, Port Elizabeth

Our conversations: the future of South Africa

Our programmes are tailored to the needs of South African youth. We believe that through our action we

are impacting individuals, communities and the country as a whole. In particular, our work is helping

South Africa achieve its National Development Plan, as we impact 4 of the country’s critical challenges.

The support we need

AIESEC has a national network of students who believe in leadership as an answer that South Africa needs.

Gathering students from around the nation, though, requires substantial costs. We want to engage more

young people in our activities, and to do so we need the right support.
