JUNIOR KINDERGARTEN MARCH
2018Welcome
March is a month of new beginnings! We will see it in all of nature as it awakens from its long winter’s nap. And we will see it in our precious children as they become more independent and as they experience new concepts. Oh what a joy it is to watch the children grow and learn!
Please check your child's red folder each night and remember to return it to school each morning.
If you have any questions or concerns - or if there is any way we can be of service to you and your family, please do not hesitate to contact us at [email protected] or [email protected].

ArtMarch will be an exciting month to paint and draw. Our goal is to finish all our collaborative artwork pieces for the Silent Auction. Every child will contribute to painting parts of the artwork. While some of the children are working on the class project, the rest of the class will be doing a special art activity with specific theme.
Mrs. Alvarado’s class will put the finishing touches on their musical instrument painting while Mrs. Bingham’s class will work on their stained glass painting of a Calla Lily. For their special art activity they will draw two different shapes and color them using warm and cool colors.
PenmanshipPlease be sure to reinforce proper handwriting at home. Is your child sitting correctly in his/her chair? Is the paper slanted? Is the grippie being held correctly? This month we will learn how to form the following uppercase letters in cursive: B and C. We will continue working on connecting our cursive letters to make words. We will also continue to work on correct letter and number formation.
PEThis month in PE, students will be learning how to handle and dribble a soccer ball. They will participate in drills and relays. They will be developing their gross motor skills and will learn how to dribble a ball with their feet.
Music“This will be our reply to violence: to make music more intensely, more beautifully, more devotedly than ever before.” - Leonard Bernstein
The March Composer of the Month is John Philip Sousa, who is known for his many compositions of marches! A couple titles that you may recognize are “The Stars and Stripes Forever” and “Semper Fidelis”.

John Philip Sousa and reflect on what was heard (dynamics, tempo, mood, instrumentation)

• Explore different “timbre” of instruments; identifying individual instruments by their sounds
• Be introduced to the strings family of instruments
TechnologyThis month in Technology class our Junior Kindergarten classes will learn the basics of spreadsheets. They will learn how to name the cells, find a cell by its name, make a table to keep a count of candies by color, and how to display that information in a graph.
