Deneil has spent a great deal of time over the past 5 years learning about this approach and implementing it within her classroom. Yesterday Shona Bass from Early Life Foundations observed Ms Sachs classroom environment and teaching practice and formally accredited her as a teacher who upholds all the principles of the Walker Learning Approach philosophy. Last week we had elections for our Student Representative Council (SRC) and House Captains. Student Leadership activities link strongly with learning about citizenship and the processes involved in a democracy. I would like to congratulate all of the children who had the courage to nominate themselves then write and deliver a speech in front of their peers. Many adults would find this a daunting thing to do so all of you who took the time to do this should be very proud of your efforts. Congratulations to the following students who were successful in winning positions of House Captains and Vice House Captains. Congratulations also to the students who have been elected to our SRC.SRC’s provide excellent opportunities for students to apply their learning in decisions that affect them in the school environment. I look forward to hearing the voice of our students in the decision making processes within our school. This coming Monday 23rd Feb will be our first School Council Meeting at 6:30 in the library. All are welcome to attend. Tomorrow we have assembly where 4/5 C will present the first class item for the year. Come and visit our produce stall and enjoy breakfast at Café Jingili too. ATTENDANCE PERCENTAGE - WEEK 3

Thank you to the parents who were able to attend our first Parent Group meeting last

Thursday - we discussed some ideas for fundraising throughout the year, and how parents would

like to see additional funds spent. Our first fundraisers will be an Easter Raffle, and a stall at the

Primary School’s International Markets on Thursday 19th March, and we will be seeking help from

everyone to make these a success. The next Parent Group meeting will be on Thursday 12th March

and we hope that more parents will be able to come along.

We have received notification from Quality Education and Care NT that the Preschool will be

commencing our assessment and rating cycle against the National Quality Standards sometime

next month. We are required to submit the Preschool’s Quality Improvement Plan by Monday 23rd

February, and we will then be given 5 days’ notice of an assessor visiting the Preschool within the

four week period of 2nd to the 27th March. This is a great opportunity for the Preschool to find

out what we are doing well and areas for improvement.

Over the next fortnight we will be practicing our ‘Invacuation’ and ‘Evacuation’ procedures with

the children. We have read a book about emergencies and have discussed potential scenarios with

the children to make these practices as easy and non-threatening as possible. Please see us if you

have any questions or concerns, or if you wish to view the Preschool’s Emergency procedures.

The parent communication board has a dedicated area for you to list your child’s home interests

and recent experiences (eg. outings, holidays etc). This will help us to get to know your child and to

strengthen the links between Preschool and home. This information will also be used to inform our

programme plan each fortnight, so please take the time to share a few things that are special to

your child.

Have a great week

Jingili’s 3 R’s and Rewards

By 3/4 Devriadis

At Jingili Primary School we use the three R’s. Respect, Responsibility and Resilience. Respect is when you look after yourself and younger students and include other kids that have no

one to play with. Responsibility is when you help out littler kids if they need some help and drink plenty of water so

you don’t get dehydrated. Resilience is When you keep happy thoughts if someone is teasing you. If something is too hard

never give up. In the play ground if I am doing one of the 3 R’s and if a teacher see’s me doing something good they will give you a token. On the rainbow chart there is eight bits everyone of us has a peg. If we do the 3 R’s we will get pegged up. If we don’t we will get pegged down. We use raffle tickets for people that are showing the 3 R’s if we get one we put it in a box. The box goes in a raffle ticket

bin. Miss Sachs shakes it we drum roll and a year 5 or 6 pulls two tickets out and they get a free 5 dollar lunch order. At assembly every class has 2 awards a teacher picks two kids for doing

something good.

Written By Sofia Samiotis

Respect is sharing, cooperate, work quietly, include others, listen, care about other people and us objects with care.

Responsibility is keep clean, behave safely, keep the area tidy, take turns, drink plenty of water, help out, stay on task, ask if you need to leave the room, eat healthy food and complete the task. Resilience is never giving up coming to an agreement, smiling, thinking positive, keeping happy

thoughts, discuss the problems and have a go at something new. There are 4 rewards for our school. 1 is the rainbow chart it has 8 colours, Red for Parent

contact, Dark orange for teachers choice, light orange for think about it, yellow for slow down, green for ready to learn, blue for good day, purple for great job and the last one is outstanding, and

when you reach outstanding you get a pink squared ticket. The second reward is getting tokens. You get tokens for showing the 3R’s when your playing in the playgroud. When you get your token you go and put the token in your team box. The third reward is raffle tickets. You get raffle tickets by showing the 3R’s in class. When you get your raffle ticket you write your name on it and put it in a box. The four and last rewards are the assembly merit awards. There are two merit awards

one is the citizenship award and the second award is the academic award. Teachers have to choose two children to get the awards. At assemblys Miss Symonds and Miss Gilbert hand them

out.

In Jingili school there are three Rs and they are respect, responsibility and resilience. Respect is including others, sharing, working quietly, listening, using objects with care and

cooperating. Responsibility is helping out, staying on task, taking turns, keeping clean, eating healthy food,

completing the task, drinking plenty of water and asking if you need to leave the room Resilience is thinking positive, never giving up, smiling, coming to an agreement, keeping happy

thoughts, discussing the problem and having a go at something new. One of the reward systems is the rainbow chart. To go up the rainbow chart you need to show 5\6 Ls

and three Rs. There are three steps to outstanding and there are 4 steps to parent contact. Raffle tickets are given out for working quietly and good work. Then at assembly. There are two tickets

picked and there are two winners. Tokens are given out by teachers on duty for good yard behavior. Merit awards are given out by teachers. They are called citizenship award and academic award. I

will use the 3Rs well respect, responsibility and resilience.

Jingili’s 3 R’s and Rewards

By 3/4 Devriadis

Here at Jingili school we have the three Rs. We follow them on the playground in class and at assembly.

Respect means to me: cooperating, caring about others, caring about the environment and animals, listening, working quietly, including others, using objects with care and sharing. That is what respect

means to me. That is how I will be a respectful student. Responsibility is helping out, asking to leave the room, completing the task, drinking plenty of water,

taking turns, keeping the room tidy, staying on task, eating healthy food, behaving safely and keeping clean. That is how I will be a responsible student.

Resilience is coming to an agreement, thinking positively, having a go at something new, discussing the problem, keeping happy, smiling and never giving up. That is how I will be a resilient student

At our school we have four rewards for doing the three Rs. There is the rainbow chart and on the rainbow chart we have pegs for all twenty five of us. There are 8 parts on the chart, The parts up the chart are good day, great job and outstanding. Once you get to outstanding you get a note to take home. If you go down the chart this is what happens in my class. Two warnings, then think tank. You

go down the chart by not doing the three Rs. The second reward is the tokens. Tokens are things you get in the playground for doing the three Rs. Once you get one you put it in the tokens box.

The tokens box is where you put your tokens and tokens score house points. At the end of the week they add the points up and the team at the end of the year with the most points wins a trophy. The third rewards are the raffle tickets you get them for doing the three Rs. The raffle tickets are tickets

that you put your full name and class on when you get them. Then you put them in a basket. Then at assembly you put it in a small bin and pulls out two names. The two people get a five dollar lunch order from the canteen. The merit awards is a reward that you get at assembly one for citizen and

one for academic award. you get to take the certificate home. I am going to show all the three Rs this year. Respect kids younger than me be resilient and never

give up with little things be responsible and stay on task.
