Jesus called them together and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them. Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave-just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

Servants don’t make excuses, procrastinate, or wait for better circumstances

Servants do not leave a job half undone.

Matthew 25:23 – “His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’”

Servants “put on the apron of humility, to serve one another.” (1 Peter 5:5, TEV)

Eye service is serving in order to impress people.

“Be especially careful when you are trying to be good so that you don’t make a performance out of it. It might be good theater, but the God who made you won’t be applauding.” (Matthew 6:1, The Message)

Real servants don’t serve for approval or applause.

Galatians 1:10 – “If I were still trying to please men, I would not be a servant of Christ.”
