Rampants, Throughout the year our students give tremendous effort and hours of hard work to accomplish their goals. The spring months include a packed schedule of top tier competitive events for students to see the fruits of their labor in academics, athletics and student organizations. This month’s featured alumnus continued competition at the collegiate level that led to his recent selection in the National Football League (NFL). Kentavius Street was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers. Alumnus: Kentavius Street Graduation Year: 2014 Best part of being a Rampant (What made your experience at Rose memorable?): The people I went to school with: teachers, janitors, coaches and students. Generally enjoyed being there. Advice for current Rose students: Do as much as you can now academically so when you get to college the load isn’t as bad. Try to knock out your foreign language if possible. Share a memorable or unique experience you’ve had since graduating from Rose. U.S. Army All American Induction ceremony for the All American game I chose to play in. Also, I had an amazing 4 years playing football at NC State, playing against some of the best athletes in the country while playing in multiple bowl games. Then finally, being drafted in the 4th round of the 2018 NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers. Quote/Motto you live by: God helps those who help themselves. In recent news:
-Pitt County FIRST Robotics Teams, with several J.H. Rose students as members, competed at the
World Competition. Teams ranked in the top 25.
-Student participation in the Science Olympiad State Competition resulted in a 7th place win in Stuck in
Science and 8th place win for Ecology.
-A JHR Senior won the High School Student of the Year at the Students Against Destructive Decisions
(SADD) Summit.
-Rose athletics recently received the Safe Schools Award from the National Athletic Trainers’
Association.
-Other events held with JHR student participation include:
2018 Spring Diversity Day Celebration
Pitt County Relay for Life
Pitt County Special Olympic Games---Rose was the host site and the JHR Chorus

Nursing Fundamentals Grant Students in Fran Green’s Nursing Fundamentals class incur expenses related the course which can be a burden when added to the costs already expected of graduating seniors. Therefore, Academic Boosters awarded Fran Green’s
Nursing Fundamentals seniors grant money to purchase medical scrubs, which are required of the course. Each student received one set of scrubs provided at a discount by a local vendor. These scrubs will be returned at the end of the semester so that future students can wear them year after year. Providing all students equal access to resources in various courses of study is very important to Academic Boosters as this broadens our reach to extend beyond the classroom.

Academic Success Breakfast—May 3
Rampant Arts in action… The Chorus participated in the annual Special Olympics Spring Games on April 20. They offered a music station for the Exceptional Athletes to come sing karaoke and line dance. It was a great day for the chorus, as some of the chorus students hope to major in Music Therapy. On Tuesday, May 22nd at 7PM in the PAC, the chorus will present their spring concert. Graduating senior chorus members will be recognized, as well as students who have participated in choral and solo events throughout the year. This will also be Mrs. Meetze’s final concert at JH Rose since she is retiring at the end of this school year. Many former chorus students from her 22 year tenure at Rose will be returning to sing on the program with our current chorus students. The concert is free and a reception will follow. We hope to see you there! Students are now able to work on their 3D rendering skills in the art room! Students are creating houses for extreme environments using SketchUp and they are creating sculpture using SculptGL.
We would also like to thank the Voos family for donating monitors!!! Students will be able to use two monitors on one desktop. This is invaluable when creating CAD related projects. Students can pull up images, information, and assignment parameters while creating on the other monitor.
