- The TRAINEE’S BOOKLET contains all phases of your course. The volume explains the organizational and general objectives of the training course. The Video and Computer Based Training (CBT), the Maintenance and APT Trainer and the Full FlightSimulator (FFS) phases are explained. This volume will be a general guide for your activities during your stay at Airbus Training Centre and isuseful from day one.

- The four volumes of the FCOM are arranged as follows:

Vol.1 Descrip tion of the aircraft systemsThis volume will be of use in the ground course phase (in classroom and self study) toreinforce and complement the lessons learnt on CBT. However the CBT should beconsidered as the prime source of technical information. Once the ground course phase issuccessfully completed and upon completion of training, FCOM Vol.1 will become theprime source of information on aircraft systems.

Vol.2 Performance information and loading dataThis volume is of use during the performance course, and during Line Oriented FlightTraining (LOFT) exercises.

Vol.3 Operating limi tations, Procedures, Techniques and supplementary performanceThe limitations will be introduced during the ground course phase.Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) will be introduced from APT Trainer 1 sessiononwards.

All abnormal and emergency procedures are listed and will be of use from APT Trainer 7session onwards.

Vol.4 Flight Management and Guidance System (FMGS) pilot ’s guideFMGS principles and procedures will be introduced during the ground course from APTTrainer 1 session onwards. This volume provides in depth information about the FMGSprinciples, procedures and interface. As the courses progresses, an increasing knowledgeof the FMGS is required and the volume will become more useful.

- QRHMost emergency and abnormal procedures are presented electronically to the crew on the flight deck. Those that are not, are included in the QRH along with normal procedures. In flight performance, operational data and OEBs are also included. The normal checklist is printed at the back of the QRH.The QRH is required for the APT Trainer and FFS sessions.

- PTMThis document is used during the performance course that is done entirely with the CBT system. The PTM contains FCOM extracts for use when solving performance exercises during the ground phase, and in the exam. This manual is not updated and is ONLY for use during the course, NOT for use in linetraining or line operations.Note: The performance course is an option depending on airline requirements

01 - FOREWORD

The Flight Crew Training Program (FCTP) is the support documentation for Flight Crew instructors ONLY.

The FCTP is sent to each Customer Airline's Flight Operation Department and is updated via a "RevisionService".

The extract of FCTP dedicated to trainees is called “trainee’s booklet” : it includes the training sessionpreparation and syllabi, with the relevant support documents (Airbus Training Airport Jeppesen charts,RTOWs and MMEL extracts).

02 - CONTENTS

The FCTP includes all the Flight Crew courses offered by the Airbus Training Centres.

Within each course the sessions are presented using the same format with :

- The take-off data page based on Airbus Airport- The session syllabus- The session guide

03 - NORMAL REVISIONS

They are issued periodically to cover changes and / or to add new data.

Two documents added to each revision facilitate its incorporation :

•  The "Filing Instructions" sheet : it lists the pages to be removed or inserted.

Normal revisions are recorded in the "List of Normal Revisions" section.

04 - TEMPORARY REVISIONS

They are printed on yellow paper and are issued when justifying urgent action between normal revisions.Temporary revisions are recorded in the "List of Temporary Revisions" section.

02 - SIMULATOR HANDLING TIPS

The following is given as guidance to help with the flow of the lessons and the accuracy of the student’shand flying.

AFS: During the Jet Familiarization phase, all take-offs are performed with the FDs OFF. The use of AP/FD with selected modes will be progressively introduced throughout the course in order to reinforcethe task sharing concept when utilizing automation.

AUTO-THRUST (A/THR): All sessions are conducted with the A/THR OFF. The Instructor will disconnectthe A/THR by pressing and holding the Instinctive Disconnect push-Button (IDB) for 15 seconds when theengines are running. This will prevent the auto-thrust from engaging unexpectedly.

CLEAN UP: Above the acceleration altitude set target speed 250kts, set climb thrust and 7°5 N.U. SelectFlap 1 above F speed. Select Flap 0 above S speed. Accelerate to 250kts. Adjust pitch approx. 11° N.U.for climbing speed 250kt.

DECELERATION: At IDLE thrust in level flight, deceleration from 250kt to VAPP (135kt) takes about 6

miles with successive changes of configuration. GD+10 select CONF1, S+10 select CONF2, then GEARDown, CONF3 and FULL. Plan to level off ~3 miles from HOLDING Fix to decelerate from 250kt to GD.

FUEL: Select fuel freeze option on Instructor console for JET FAM sessions.

FMS: Insert the bare minimum required for JET FAM sessions. Set FROM/TO; Departure runway with noSID; F-PLN discontinuity and the arrival with an ILS no STAR. This works well and ensures the FMSsequences by itself.

HEADING Correction: Use a bank angle equal to one-half the difference between the present headingand the desired heading. e.g. if off 10° on heading, use 5 degrees of bank to correct back to desiredheading.

LEVEL OFF Procedure: Leveling off by 10 % of V/S rate (Above FL300, use 500 feet).

LEVEL FLIGHT LOW LEVEL (56 tons): 250kts / FL70 = approx. 2.5 degrees nose up and 64 % N1. In thecircuit (56 tons): GD speed, 196kts = 5.5° NU 56 % N1. S speed, 179kts = 7 NU 58 % N1. F2 speed +L/G DN 138kts = 8 NU 65 % N1.

LEVEL TURN LOW LEVEL: 25 degrees AOB / approx. 3 degrees NU / N1 target +2%

NAVAIDS: Students will be taught how to use the MCDU RAD NAV Page and to set the NAVAIDS.

PERFORMANCE: Take-off speeds with FLEX/TOGA will be calculated by the student using theappropriate RTOW tables (ELT JET/MCC training course only).

PITCH (Attitude) Changes: Mach x 1,000 or TAS / 0.6 = V/S fpm for 1° pitch change. E.g. if cruising atMach 0.8: 0.8 x 1,000=800fpm or at FL70 - 250kts IAS (278kt TAS) = 460fpm for 1° pitch change .

ROLL-OUT Procedure: Δ HEADING TO GO = BANK (°) / 3 With 25 degrees of bank, start roll-out at 8 degrees in advance.

SOPs: Cockpit preparations are performed as per  Airbus TRANSIT STOP Procedures (Items markedby *). The Normal Flight Deck preparation will be introduced later in the Type Rating course.

STEEP TURNS: FL 70 – 250kt requires ~ 4° NU pitch and 68 % N1 to maintain a level 45° bank turn.

PITCH AND ROLL FAMILIARIZATIONUsing up to 33° angle of bank conduct level turns to the left and right. Small pitch and Power is required. Innormal operations, NO RUDDER INPUT required in jet airplanes. Note no back stick required in normal turnsand auto-pitch trim is provided. Avoid over-controlling on side-stick. Repeat increasing up to 45° angle of bankwith side-stick pressure – no auto-pitch trim.

TURN ROLL-OUT PRACTICE Airspeed 250kt. Conduct level turns at 3,000ft.

30° bank, 60° left turn;

30° bank, 60° right turn;

20° bank, 30° left turn followed by 20° bank, 30° right turn;

15° bank, 30° right turn followed by 15° bank, 30° left turn;

Give heading corrections from 5° to 15° using suitable bank angle.

10’

CLIMBING / DESCENDING LEVEL OFF

Note basic attitude and power. Maintaining actual N1, increase the pitch attitude up to 9° nose-up. ObserveV/S > 3,000fpm then bring back the pitch attitude to the basic attitude.

Highlight small pitch change = large performance change.TAS / 0.6 = V/S for 1° pitch change.

Maintaining 250kt and present heading climb to 6,000ft – 250kt (~11-12° N.U Pitch attitude) and select climbthrust. Emphasis on setting the power and attitude (Auto-pitch trim). Note the aircraft performance.

Maintaining 250kt and present heading descent to 3,000ft – 250kt (~-1° N.D Pitch attitude) and select idlethrust. Note more anticipation is required to adjust thrust in descending level off (engine response from low

thrust). Leveling off by 10% of V/S rate.

15’

SIERRA #1 PATTERN Airspeed 250kt – 3,000ft.PNF is to provide attitudes - power targets throughout the exercise upon request of the PF.

Combination of turning with 25° bank angle whilst climbing and descending at +/-1,000fpm:Straight climb (1 min) at +1,000fpm – 250kt. Level off at 4,000ft.

Maintain straight and level to stabilize flight parameters, then…Climb at +1,000fpm while turning 25° bank, 180° left turn. Level off at 5,000ft and roll out on heading.

Maintain straight and level to stabilize flight parameters, then…Descent at -1,000fpm while turning 25° bank, 180° right turn. Level off at 4,000ft and roll out on heading.

Maintain straight and level to stabilize flight parameters, then…Straight descent (1 min) at -1,000fpm – 250kt. Level off at 3,000ft.

10’

EFFECT OF SPEEDBRAKE

Maintain altitude, heading and speed. Note pitch attitude and N1. Apply half speed brake. Note the pitchchange and speed decrease. Note the protection speeds increase. Increase power to maintain speed.Observe vibrations (FFS Only). Smoothly retract speed-brake.

CLIMB / ACCELERATION

Energy sharing demo. Track outbound AGN and climb to FL150 using CLB thrust. When crossing FL100, maintain V/S +1,000fpm (~3° N.U pitch) whilst accelerating to 300kt.

Adjust pitch attitude to maintain climb speed to 300kt.

DESCENT / DECELERATIONTrainee is to calculate a TOD to be leveled off 10NM – 250kt before AGN VOR at FL80.Tracking inbound AGN VOR descent to FL80 and decelerate with -1,000fpm when crossing FL120.Passing FL120 in descent, give an ATC restriction: CROSS FL100 AT 200 KNOTS.Show the difficulty of reducing speed and descending at the same time. Use speed-brake to assist. VLSrises to approx. 230kt so speedbrake must be progressively retracted to reach 200kt.

10’

LANDING CONFIGURATIONMaintain FL80. Plan to reach 3DME AGN with FLAPS 2 (~6D AGN), then configure to landing configuration.

Maintain VAPP (135kt).

INTRODUCTION TO GO-AROUNDIn LDG CONFIG over AGN VOR, adjust power to descent to FL50 at approx 800fpm. Give headings 5°-15°left and right. Check and adjust as required the 3° descent flight path using ALT / DME (e.g. 5DME AGNFL65…). At FL50 initiate a Go-Around; retract Gear and one step of Flap. Emphasis on TOGA and Attitudemanagement. Accelerate to 250kt when crossing FL65 and continue climb to FL80 whilst turning 25° angleoutbound TOU VOR.

30’

DESCENT PROFILE 1Descent to and level off at 5,000ft – 250kt. Track inbound. Start at 25DME. (~11NM)

Commence descent to 3,000ft. Maintain 3,000ft and configure to landing configuration – approach speed.Note total distance required. Do not use speed-brake.

GO-AROUND

Go-around. Climb to 5,000ft and clean up.

DESCENT PROFILE 2Leveling off at 5,000ft – 250kt. Track inbound. Start at 25DME. (~9NM)

Configure to landing configuration – approach speed, then descend to 3,000ft. Do not use speed-brake.Note using speed-brake to aid deceleration will reduce these distances by 40%.

GO-AROUNDGo-around. Clean up and climb to 5,000ft.

DESCENT PROFILE 3Leveling off at 5,000ft – 250kt. Track inbound. Start at 25DME. (~7NM)

Commence descent to 3,000ft using the FULL/HALF speed-brake as required to assist. Level off 3,000ftand configure to landing configuration – approach speed. Retract speed-brake (pitch down effect afterretraction) when Gear is selected down. More anticipation is required to adjust the thrust. Note totaldistance required.

GO AROUND IN LEVEL FLIGHTMaintain 3,000ft. Use TOGA then reduce to CLB thrust. Apply the standard go around procedures andclean up to 250kt. Provide RADAR VECTOR DOWNWIND ILS RWY 32R APP.

HANDLING – HIGH ALTITUDE AP/FD OFF, NO FPV. Remain in the vicinity of MOU VOR. POS FREEZE as appropriate. Emphasis small pitch change induces large V/S deviation.

Make a level turn at 25° AOB. Note the speed margin is decreasing. Do not adjust thrust. Attempt to increase bank angle towards 40°. Observe the narrowing of maneuver margin. Do not allow speedto decay into amber strip. Do not adjust thrust.

Wings leveled, set CLB = MCT = TOGA thrust ~92.5% N1 to recover M.78. Note the lack of performance toaccelerate due to the drag curve. Handling option – descending to regain cruise M.78. Allow the traineehandling the flight and stabilizing at FL350 – M.78.

Engage AP/FD ON. Turn inbound MOU VOR using the MCDU DIR TO Function. Point out how the automation

works at high altitude (~15° AOB). Adjust thrust ~89% to maintain speed. Note the turn radius.

Teaching point: hand flying / excessive maneuvering is not advisable at high altitude. Point out speed is easyto lose but hard to gain at high altitude. Avoid amber speed.
