• Chapter 4 poetically predicts the destruction of Judah at the hands of Babylon

• “Blow the trumpet” (4:5) is the cry—Babylon is coming

• It would be 40 years from the time of this prophecy

• From God’s perspective it was imminent

• Chapters 5 and 6 take a behind the scenes look at why the nation will be judged

• Judah could not be pardoned

• “How can I pardon you for this?”

• Chapter 5 and 6 list why God cannot pardon them

• Jerusalem looked good on the outside but it was spewing wickedness

• God will pick Judah like grapes

• Judah’s hearts (4:4), and their ears were uncircumcised

• Uncircumcised ears keep us from hearing God

• We develop an ear for what we listen to

• Judah took the blessings of Deuteronomy 6 for granted.

• Judah forgot the Lord

• As a result, the stuff they were given, without working for, would be given to the Babylonians

• Judah gave sweet sacrifices, but their hearts were full of sewage

• Neither their wisdom nor their strength would save them from Babylon

• They will be like their father, Nimrod

• Nimrod was religious, a builder, a hunter

• Don’t waste your life with good stuff that is not eternal

• They were no longer a precious metal
