Bamboo fabric is 100% Viscose from Bamboo and a natural choice since it supports innovations in sustainability. It is extremely soft and luxurious; a cross between silk and soft cotton.

Compact fluorescent light bulbs are used in all of the table lamps and hanging chandeliers. They use 75% less energy than incadescent bulbs do and last 10 times longer with a faster return on investment.

The hanging lights are glass that were hand-blown on site. The glass was recycled from the hotel’s leftover wine bottles and old window panes of falling structures.

Natural Spring water is pumped from the ground to fill the Hotel’s famous pool.

3 pools are on the grounds, one natural warm spring water, one a salt water pool, and the last a cold spring water pool.

A wooden pergola, created from fallen trees, provides shade over a swim-up pool bar.

Lounge seating around the pools allows guest maximum sun time.

A shallow lounge in the pool allows guests of all ages to sit in the water.

At night lights come on in the pools and music can be heard underwater.

Compression & Release: As the structure moves across the space the “tentacles” grow longer, lift higher, and develop more of a free-flowing angle. The density decreases as the structure gets wider, similar to a sea anemone in calm water.

Elevation of row of tentacles

Punctures in frame so that neighboring structures can be attached easily.

L-shaped tab on the back of the frame screws into the “tentacle” form. This secures it to the frame and can be placed on any place of the metal frame.

Light gauge aluminum metal frame. The inverted L-shape allows the frame to appear less bulky while protecting against warp.

“Tentacles” are created out of clear acrylic tubes and shaped into a spline. They can then be lit up at the end so that the overall structure comes to life.

A solid metal rod supports the end (or middle depending on the length) of the acrylic shape and helps it keep its shape.

Teak is a weather resistant material that contains natural oils and is very useful in exposed areas. It can also be used for indoor flooring and furniture.

If a couple decides to have a meal at this outdoor venue, they will dine on locally grown foods. The scraps will then be composted.

Curtains are a primary design principle when setting the mood for a romantic dinner, complete with candles.

A waitor will cater to your every wish as you order from locally grown foods amidst candles in the scent of your choice.

Private Residence: Spa Bathroom with Outdoor Shower & PoolIn an attempt to save water, guests will have the option to choose to not have their sheets and towels washed. Bringing your own toiletries is also strongly encourage by the hotel.

Water usage can be cut down by using a rainwater harvesting system, solar water heaters, and grey water reusage for irrigation.

Leftover guest soaps will be ground up for use as laundry detergent for hotel uniforms so that the employees don’t have to take them home and do it themselves

Energy Star HVAC system can reduce O-Zone depletion and climate change.

We were given the task to come up with an “innovative” feature that could be used throughout the office with Inscape materials. We chose to create movable panels that could be customized to the height the employee desired. Based on our color studies of “Orange, Blue, Green, and Gold people’ they require different levels of vision, communication, concentration, and privacy. These panels can help control the majority of those details. We then designed an easy pressure screw system to hold the piece together.
