Grants to Help Your Program Improve
JLCP offers grants to help improve the quality of programs in
Jefferson and Lewis Counties. This grant begins with using
an assessment tool, like the Environment Rating Scale to
help you determine the best use of the grant funds. Call
782-4900 ext 239 for more information or to request an
application.
Educational Incentive Program (EIP)
Scholarship funding to participate in training may be
available through the Educational Incentive Program (EIP).

Health and Safety Training Mon Oct 5, Weds Oct 7 and Fri Oct 9, 9:00 AM-2:30 PM at CAPC This course is required for new family and group family child care provider applicants. It covers child care regulations and introduces the learner to key health practices required by OCFS. It can also be taken as a refresher for existing providers who would like to polish their knowledge and skills. CACFP Training: What Would Batman Eat? Wednesday Oct 7 6:30-9:00 PM at Jefferson-Lewis BOCES Thursday Oct 15 6:30-9:00 PM at Canton BOCES This training will help providers see a healthy child care program as an invest-ment and guide children to choose healthier options. Participants will engage in activities that will promote physical activity and healthier eating habits. Optional potluck dinner at 6 PM… please bring a dish to pass! Foundations of Child Care - For Center Staff Tuesdays November 24, December 1, 8 and 15 12:30-4:30 PM at CAPC This comprehensive 15-hour training course is designed for center staff who wish to improve the care they provide; for new hires to provide them with the knowledge they need as they begin in a program; and for individuals seeking child care employment to prepare them for entrance into the field. Participants will be provided with the skills and concepts they will put into practice every day, enabling them to continually protect and promote the health, safety and development of the children with whom they work. Participants in this workshop will learn about different types of therapeutic services and how to better collaborate with therapists in your program. We will also discuss the importance of communicating with families about the strategies used by therapists. Do the children in your care get at least 60 minutes of structured MVPA every day? This high-energy hands-on training is full of ideas and resources on physical activity and healthy food choices that you can include in your early childhood programs. You will experience MVPA activities that can be replicated with pre‐school children. Attending JLCP Workshops Registration & Payment: To register for training, complete a registration form and
submit with payment, where applicable, to CAPC by mail or in person at least 3 days
prior unless otherwise noted. CAPC is not responsible for payments that are left with
or handed to anyone other than Admin. Office Staff. Registration forms can be found
at www.capcjc.org. Accepted payment: cash, check payable to CAPC, money orders,
purchase orders and EIP Award Notice. If you receive EIP scholarship for training for
which you have already paid, CAPC will issue a reimbursement. You are responsible
for any difference between the award amount and the cost of the class and payment
must be received prior to class. All checks returned to CAPC for insufficient funds
subject to current returned-check fee. Post-dated checks not accepted.
Cancellations: If a class you have paid for is cancelled you will be notified and issued
a training pass, equivalent to the amount you paid, to use toward another training
within the next year. Training pass will be issued only if you cancel prior to the
scheduled workshop. After business hours dial x 239 for voice mail.
Certificates and Training Records: Certificates for trainings other than SUNY
Videoconferences will be given to participants upon completion of a training and
receipt of full payment. There will be a $5 fee for replacement certificates. We will
provide a record of your JLCP training upon request.
SUNY Videoconferences: Photo ID is required. If you are registered and can not
attend, please call 800-295-9616. Participants must arrive by 6:45 pm, stay until 9 pm
and receive a passing grade on the multiple-choice test in order to receive credit for
attending. Certificates are mailed to participants from SUNY.
Children: While we love children, our trainings are intended for adult audiences.
