Why Performance Based Assessments?
Definition
● Measures students' ability to apply the skills and knowledge learned from a unit or units of study
● Authentic student demonstration of multiple 2020 elements via cross-disciplinary approach
Purpose
● Alternative to traditional testing (e.g., multiple choice, one correct answer) allowing students to problem-solve in real world context
● Allow for authentic methods of measuring more challenging learning goals
● Performance-based assessment offers schools a flexible, viable and well-resourced option to support Jeffco 2020 implementation
Jeffco Performance Based Assessments● Over 25 Jeffco schools have engaged in
PBA professional learning events to deepen their understanding of how to develop and use quality performance assessments
● Many more Jeffco teachers have PBA’s at an individual level to more authentically measure student success
● Implementation is flexible and educators can purposefully integrate PBA’s into preexisting units
