Dear ReaderThe song "Se, det summer af sol over engen" (Lo, the
sun is warm), written in 1897 by Danish poet Holger
Drachmann, is also called "The May Song". It aptly
describes the way we Danes feel about the month of
May – probably the most beautiful month of the year
in this country. The weather often shows itself in its
most favorable light, everything is beautiful and green
outside, and the expectations for the coming months
are great.
That’s also why many people choose to get married
in May. As part of our wedding theme in this issue
of the magazine, we’ll bring you plenty of inspiration
for wedding dresses and party clothes, a country style
wedding with table arrangements, decorations, DIY
fl owers and much more. But it’s not all weddings.
As always, we’ll show you beautiful homes, delicious
food and ideas for creative projects that you can throw
yourself into. This time we’ll show you how to make
the loveliest cabinets out of old clock cases.
Happy reading!
Lonnie & V ivianLo, the sun is warm above the meadow
The honeybees collect their nectar.
The humble fi nch and sparrow
Busily ready their nest.
And throughout the day they rejoice
But when evening comes they quiet.
Springtime sings its song, oh yes
And my heart swells in my chest.
A silver timbre in the billows of the springtime brook
A golden light through the May eve
Every roadside becomes a fl ourishing bounty
Along the waving, fertile fi elds.
These waves, oh how they rise
With my soul above the gleaming sun
Around the world are lovely realms
Yet no spring like May in our land!

Who are we, and why the name Jeanne d’Arc Living?Who are we, and why the name Jeanne d’Arc Living?Who are we, and why the name
The French heroine Jeanne d’Arc was an amazing woman with an unusually strong will and sense of purpose. She didn’t ascribe to the common opinions of her time of what one should or should not do. Instead she went her own way and fought till the very end for her beliefs.
In using her name in connection with our company, we do so with the utmost respect for this remarkable woman. We also feel that there’s a lesson to be learned from her – even now, 600 years later. We should all have the courage to go our own ways and dare to stand out from the crowd. From the very beginning these have been some of our main goals for the company. We continuously aim to think outside the box and stand up for what we believe.
Today part of the company is a publishing business that publishes our own magazines and books. The common thread in everything we do is the French-Nordic country style. We publish a magazine that keeps to the style, avoiding distracting advertisements within the magazine. This is, of course, a challenge. It requires a substantial amount of editorial material and that we do most of it ourselves in order to make ends meet. The magazine is published in eight languages and sold in many parts of the world.
We also run a wholesale business with our own designs produced both here in Denmark and abroad. The company has been around for almost ten years and is jointly owned by Lonnie Würtz Jensen and Vivian Christensen. If you’d like to learn more about us and the company, you can follow our everyday life on our blog.
All the best,
Lonnie & Vivian

This home is indisputable evidence that you don’t have to This home is indisputable evidence that you don’t have to live on an idyllic farmstead to create the French country style in your home. Corrie and her husband, Leo, live in a wonderful rowhouse in Zwijndrecht, Holland. The house was built in the 1960s but nobody can tell. Through their 20 years in the house, the couple has transformed it into a true gem.
5
The fi rst thing you see when you step into the entrance hall is a display of
one wonderful vintage and brocante treasure after another. The greatest
treasure of them all – and the one around which the style is based – is
a lovely, antique dress that Corrie fell in love with many years ago. It’s
completely unique, and she had to save up to purchase it. She decided to
sell some old items at a fl ea market however in order to afford the dress.
Although it’s been many years by now, Corrie just knows in her heart
that this is one treasure with which she’ll never part. The entrance hall
also holds a collection of Victorian footwear. Beautiful, French vintage
furniture, shutters and mirrors contribute to the exquisite decor. A
beautiful, old wheeled horse creates a contrast to the feminine garments.

Throughout the home the colors are kept in shades of gray, cream, white and
brown. Corrie has an incredible talent for creating wonderful atmosphere with her
displays. She often groups her collections together. This calms the eyes. Here in
the living room, all of the beautiful, old faience pitchers are lined up side by side.
A collection of lovely, old sconces hangs beneath the shelf and a pair of beautiful
tureens adorns the top of the shelf. Old pudding molds made of metal are displayed
with a metal box in the same shade of color. Pretty, white enamel pitchers decorate
the windowsill. If you like to collect various things yourself, you can try grouping
them together the next time you’re changing things around.
The coffee table and the large, old hutch have the perfect patina. Both are incredibly
beautiful and authentic. The couple prefers to leave the old furniture with its
9
10
original paint and patina. But when you live in a house where things also need
to be functional, you can’t always wait for the right piece of furniture to turn up.
So the couple does occasionally compromise. In order to make newer pieces of
furniture match the style, Corrie paints them using chalk paint. This makes the
furniture appear old and thus better fi t in with the old pieces. The large china
cabinet in the dining area has been treated like this. It creates a sense of calm in
the decor. The piece previously seemed very dominant with too much raw wood.
When lightening a piece of furniture with chalk paint, you’ll need to dilute the
paint with water. Just experiment a little until you fi nd the right balance. Test a
small area that won’t be visible later, perhaps on the back cover. That way you can
see how white or light you want it to be.
11
Inside the large cabinet, items are arranged in groups. This makes
everything seem more organized when you look through the glass doors
and creates calm in the decor. The couple likes to use shutters in their
furnishing as screens as well as for decoration. Corrie looks for authentic
pieces with patina so they’ll fi t in anywhere. On the table is a lovely
collection of candlesticks and other items made from poor man’s silver.
The table is covered with vintage tablecloths and set with wonderful,
old faience, which is one of Corrie’s great passions. She fell head over
heels for the beautiful, old faience while visiting a Belgian market with
a girlfriend one time. Since then she has acquired a large collection of
tureens, bowls, pitchers, platters and other treasures. Old chocolate molds
as well as various jars and tins for storage are also visible in the open
