Why did the Japanese attack Pearl Harbor? Japan attacked Pearl
Harbor because 1. the US had the only navy that could threaten
their plans in Asia 2. The US controlled the Philippines and would
probably get involved anyway 3. throwing a surprise first punch and
sinking a big part of the US fleet would give Japan a head start in
their conquest of Asia

battleships (two of which were raised and returned to service late
