SAIL (Stay Active Independent for Life) SAIL is a group exercise class (see below) and we want some of our members to get free training to teach classes. NO PREVIOUS experience needed. The training will give you the information to hold a 30 minute to 1 hour class and RRC will offer a variety of classes.

SAIL is an exercise and education program for older adults meeting twice a week for 12 weeks for one hour. Classes are led by RSVP Program through Volunteers of America in partnership with the RRC. The program includes a combination of aerobic conditioning, strength training, and balance exercises which have been shown to decrease the risk of falling. The program was developed through Washington State Public Health with support from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Sex Please, We’re 60 Daytripper Theater, BloomingtonMrs. Stancliffe’s Rose Cottage Bed & Breakfast has been successful for many years. Her guests (nearly all women) return year after year. Her next-door neighbor, the elderly, silver-tongued Bud “the Stud”, believes they come to spend time with him in romantic liaisons. When he gets his hands on a new experimental pill “Venusia”, to increase the libido of menopausal women, comedy follows. But what would happen if Bud’s Viagra pills got switched with the Venusia pills and what effect would it have on him? Pure comedy gold!

Test Your Brain

Count every “F: in the follow-ing test:

FINISHED FILES ARE THE RESULT OF YEARS OF SCI-ENTIFIC STUDY COMBINED WITH THE EXPERIENCE OF YEARS...

How many “F”s? Count them again. Wrong, there are 6 - no joke! Read it again. Really go back and read it again slowly and try to find all 6 “F”s.

The Brain cannot process “OF”.

FINISHED FILES ARE THE RESULT OF YEARS OF SCI-ENTIFIC STUDY COMBINED WITH THE EXPERIENCE OF YEARS...

Finding three “F”s is normal finding four is quite rare.

Challenge your family and friends it a great brainteaser and will keep them occupied for a while and/or drive them a little crazy!

Accidental Poems

Find a stack of old newspapers and cut the headlines out of them.

Then try to arrange these lines into a poem. If you are having trouble making sense of your line fragments, go back to the newspaper and cut out other words that are useful as transi-tions between your headlines. Paste/tape the lines on a sheet of paper and enjoy!

Send us a copy we’d love to feature a few in the March/April edition of The River.

WoodcarversThe woodcarvers met in the Fall and have decided not to meet again until Spring. When they have chosen a date to begin we will post. If you would like more information on woodcarving call the center at 651-280-6970.

Don’t forget to call 651-280-6970 to RSVP for a class or program. Once you have called we will only call you back if the class is full. See you at the Center! Don’t forget your mask.

February marks 56th consecutive American Heart Month It’s no secret February is all about hearts — but not just the candy kind.

The federally designated event reinforces the importance of heart health and the need for more research, with a reminder to get families and communities involved. The first proclamation was by President Lyndon B. Johnson in February 1964, nine years after he had a heart attack. Since then, the president has annually declared February American Heart Month.

Cardiovascular disease (heart disease and stroke combined) kills about 2,300 a day. Obesity in both youth and adults is at an all-time high, youth are being diagnosed with heart disease earlier than ever and people just ZIP codes apart can live 25 years less than their neighbors because of disparities in health. The American Heart Asso-ciation urges people to take care of their hearts year-round.

• Heart disease kills more people than all forms of cancer com-bined.

• Heart attacks affect more people every year than the population of Dallas, Texas.

• 83% believe that heart attacks can be prevented but aren’t moti-vated to do anything.

• 72% of Americans don’t consider themselves at risk for heart dis-ease.

RRC Advisory Board Update Continued Another item on their 2021 Work Plan is a membership survey. They want to know what programs/services you want at the RRC. As always if there are things you would like to discuss with the Board, each meeting is open to the public. They are held on the second Monday of each month at 9:30 a.m. at the RRC. Feel free to join us anytime! If you can not make a meeting but are still interested in what is happening, all meeting minutes and agendas are posted on the City of Farmington’s website. Finally the Advisory Board would like to thank you the members for renewing your memberships and regularly checking on our status during our closed time. They would also like to thank the Farmington Sons of the American Legion for their generous donation of $500 and the DCA Title for their generous donation of $100 both very important in this year with almost no fundraising. We are humbled by your continued support during this difficult year!

Your paper shredding can earn the RRC money all year long at our #ShredRight4Good container collection fundraiser. At the RRC we have a secure, lockable container for your shredding. The RRC is selling bags and tickets for people to bring their confidential documents to our container to shred. When our container is full, we contact ShredRight and they’ll securely shred all the documents in the container. The RRC keeps all the revenue from the bags and tickets sold!

Why this fundraiser is awesomeKeep the earth healthy. Trees consume carbon dioxide, a poisonous gas which pollutes the earth. When you shred and recycle your paper, you’re saving other trees from being used to make new paper. More trees = a healthier planet.

Keep your information safe. For example, if people throw their bills, mail or passwords into the garbage, strangers could find this information and use it in negative ways. #ShredRight4Good shreds this information so no one else can use it.

It’s unique! #ShredRight4Good is a helpful fundraising option that teaches everyone about the importance of identity protection. We’re providing a service to friends and family while also helping to educate all generations about shredding and recycling. How cool is that?

$10 a ticket - good for up to 2 grocery bags of documents. Buy a ticket any time and bring your bags when full. Call 651-280-6970 to purchase your ticket or for more information.

Tips for maximizing your cognitive strengths• Music enriches and soothes the soul and improves brain function. Play your favorite music CD’s or

tapes. Listen to concerts, watch dances and recitals. Listen to quiet soothing music if you have dif-ficulty going to sleep.

• Do active hobbies like water aerobics, yoga, tai chi, or walking. Exercise improves mood and sleep.

• An active social life is vital for maintaining good cognition. Attend activies at a the Rambling River Center, church or a club.

• Do hobbies like sewing, woodworking, gardening, quilting or crocheting. Learning something new or tackling a difficult project helps the brain create new connections, which is very therapeutic.

• Keep a journal of reminiscences; you have many fascinating stories to tell. The journal or tape re-cording makes a treasured gift for family members.

• Be mindful of becoming too tired or stressed. Fatigue and stress can have a very detrimental effect on cognition. Some days or times of day may be better than others for doing projects. Focus on the enjoyment of the project, not the finished products.
