"The Eucharist is the heart and the summit of the Church's life." (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1407) The weekly cele-bration of the Eucharist on Saturday evening or Sunday morning defines who we are as Catholics—in our parishes, in our house-holds of faith in our neighborhoods, and in our world.

We have 3 Mass options every weekend: Saturday, 4pm; Sunday, 8:30 and 11am. See you in Church!!

MARY’S KITCHEN: New Time:3 to 5pm Mary’s Kitchen is open Mondays from 3 to 5pm. All members of the community are invited – both parishioners and non-parishioners alike – to pick up a take out meal during those times. Questions about Mary’s Kitchen? Contact Sharon at 328-0427 for more information.

ROSARY SOCIETY—Our next meeting will be held January 6th at 6:00 pm.

A Reminder: All Lectors are urged to pick up their ‘Workbook for Lectors’ in the vesting sacristy off the hallway in the church if you haven’t already done so. Please list your name on the sheet that is near the books. Thank you.

SCRIPTURE STUDY: Exodus 24-31, 35-39—Please note: there will be no Scripture on Thursday, January 7. Sessions

will resume on January 14, 2016. God instructs Moses in the building of the Tabernacle, in which He will make His presence dwell. The Tabernacle

will move from place to place with Israel, allowing them to take the experience of Sinai with them. You are invited to join us on Thursdays in 2016, between 6 to 7:30PM, at the Faith Formation and Ministry Center

(2425-7th Avenue). For questions or for more information, please contact Sharon at 328-0427 or [email protected].

RCIA: Rite of Christian Initiation of

Adults—Do you have questions about the

Catholic faith? Is becoming a Catholic something you’ve thought about, but never actively pursued the “How can I do this”? Have you been Baptized or made your First Communion, but still need to complete the sacramental process? Are other family members Catholic and you would like to be able to share fully with them in worship? If you would like more information, contact Sharon at 328-0427.

IHM PRAYER TREE MINISTRY—If you know of someone who would like prayers said for them on their behalf, or for your-self: for wellness of spiritual, mental or physical health; speedy recovery from surgery; safe travel, please contact Brenda at 271-6184.

January 3—The Epiphany "We saw his star at its rising and have come to do him

homage." These Magi did not know the person they

were seeking to honor. They had not met Jesus, but

had embarked upon a long and arduous journey in

order to come into his presence. Although they were

not from among the Jewish people who had received the ancient

promises of a Messiah, they were nonetheless anticipating his arrival.

And when they found him, "they were overjoyed." Their quest had

come to its moment of fulfillment when "they saw the child with

Mary his mother."

For those of us who have been raised Christian since our infancy, it's

important to reflect on the joy of the Magi. They found Christ as a

result of great effort and expense. The very trials of their journey, and

the hope that was fulfilled when it was successful, made them appre-

ciate their encounter with Jesus in a profound way as "they prostrated

themselves... and offered him gifts." Converts to the faith may have a

kind of advantage in comprehending the experience of the Magi. But

cradle Catholics may need to exert a bit more effort to share in the

wonder. Even when Jesus has always been a part of someone's life, it

is still important to stand in awe of him. On the feast of the Epiphany

of the Lord, we meditate on what it means to "find" Jesus. For some

of us, this means remembering a conversion experience, but for oth-

ers it means imagining what life would be like without him, and then

rejoicing in the fact that he is truly with us. No matter how we found

the Lord, we too should fall down on our knees in adoration and offer

him the precious treasures of our lives: our fervent devotion and our

will to serve him. ©2012 Liturgical Publications Inc
