Mission Statement
“Our Lady of Lourdes Parish is a family of believers,
embraced by the Father’s love, nourished by Jesus
in Word and Sacrament, and strengthened by the
Holy Spirit. Inspired by Mary we commit ourselves to
live and proclaim the Gospel of Salvation.”
Father Gary writes
The Sanctuary Candle is lit In Memory of Pedro L. Fajardo
From Loreta L. Moore
Yes, 2021 has arrived, and we hope and pray it will be more
peaceful, less divisive, with an air of normality. Let’s carry the gift of
hope with us each and every day during this new year. In his
excellent and thoughtprovoking book, ‘Let Us Dream: The Path To
A Better Future,’ Pope Francis concludes with a poem on hope: “I
would like to end with a poem that I read in lockdown after receiving
it from a friend in Argentina. There was some confusion over the
author, who I eventually found out is a Cuban actor and comedian in
Miami. When I spoke on the phone with Alexis Valdes, he told me he
wrote ‘Hope’ (‘Esperanza’) in a single sitting, without changing the
words, as if God had used him as a channel. It went viral, moving
many including me. It captures the path to the better future I have
tried to express in this book. Let’s let his poetry and its beauty have
the final word, helping us to decenter and transcend so that our
peoples may have life (John 10:10).”

HOPE
When the storm has passed
and the roads are tamed
and we are the survivors
of a collective shipwreck.

With tearful heart
and our destiny blessed
we will feel joy
simply for being alive.

And we’ll give a hug
to the first stranger
and praise our good luck
that we kept a friend.

And then we’ll remember
all that we lost
and finally learn
everything we never learned.

And we’ll envy no one
for all of us have suffered
and we’ll not be idle
but more compassionate.

We’ll value more what belongs to all
than what was earned.
We’ll be more generous
and much more committed.

We’ll understand how fragile
it is to be alive.
We’ll sweat empathy
for those still with us
and those who are gone.

School Annual Fund Update
We are excited to report that as of December 20th, we have
received a total of $122,840 for the School
Annual Fund! Because of the generosity of parents, grand-
parents, parishioners, friends, faculty and staff, we have
surpassed our goal! It’s not too late to
donate. Visit myoll.com/support or call (727) 7333776.
(continued from previous page)
We’ll miss the old man
who asked for a buck in the market
whose name we never knew
who was always at your side.

And maybe the poor old man
was your God in disguise.
But you never asked his name
because you never had the time.

And all will become a miracle.
And all will become a legacy.
And we’ll respect the life,
the life we have gained.

When the storm passes
I ask you Lord, in shame
that you return us better,
as you once dreamed us.

As we journey into this new year of 2021, may the gift of hope
define us and motivate us as God’s people. Happy New Year,
love, prayers and blessings!

Love
and learning go hand in hand in our Early Childhood
Program. The children are growing and maturing in
immeasurable ways through the course of this unusual school year.
They are becoming confident students with strong academic skills to
prepare them for what is to come.

They have most importantly deepened their relationship with God.
They are learning daily, that God is with us through all things, even
pandemics. They are beginning to understand the value of prayer
and the importance of knowing that God is our guiding light, a lamp
unto our feet! He walks with us always and the children know that
they are never alone, come what may.

In the classroom, each child is treated with respect as we learn and
grow together. With just the right amounts of kindness, faith and
humor, great things are being accomplished.

STEWARDSHIP: TIME, TALENT, TREASURE
STEWARDSHIP REFLECTION
LORD OF ALL

Saint Paul was born and brought up as a Jew,
deeply aware of the Jewish people as the
Chosen Race. Thanks to his education by
rabbis, Paul was steeped in the Hebrew scrip-
tures, which emphasized God’s particular love
for Jews. Paul expected a Jewish Messiah for
the Jews, and may well have believed such a
one would be a great military or royal leader
like King David. Jesus did not fit that profile.
Paul was ardent in his conviction that all those
who believed Jesus was the promised Savior
were deluded and dangerous, and he was
willing to hunt them down and kill them off.
After his vision of Jesus on the road to
Damascus, Paul’s change of heart and mind
was profound. All his preconceptions were
wrong. He was wrong about Jesus and wrong
about Jesus’ followers. He was wrong about
the Messiah being only for the Jews. Paul was
a remarkable man who was prepared to admit
that he was wrong! He knew that he had been
given an insight into the mystery of God’s
grace, hidden until the world was ready. God’s
love and grace are universal and no human
being is beyond that love; only those who
choose not to receive it cannot benefit from
God’s grace. He was certain that those who
were not Jews were also called to be part of
the body of Christ. This was an astounding
idea and, at first, brought conflict with apostles
such as Peter. Yet these convictions took Paul and his companions
out into the world around the Mediterranean on long and dangerous
journeys. Jesus was born a Jew in Bethlehem yet, as Risen Lord, he
is Lord of all nations and peoples. Paul knew this. It changed his
mind. It changed his heart. It changed the world.

book and the ideas it presents. Encourage
me to persevere, even when it’s inconven-

Ingles. We extend a special welcome to those who are
crying newborns, skinny as a rail or could afford to lose
a few pounds.

We welcome you if you can sing like Andrea Bocelli or
can’t carry a note in a bucket. You’re welcome here if
“just browsing,” just woke up or just got out of jail. We
don’t are if you’re more Catholic than the Pope or
haven’t been in church since little Joey’s Baptism. Talk
to the priest who can help you.

A special welcome to those over 60 but not grown up
yet, and to teenagers growing up too fast. We welcome
soccer moms, NASCAR dads, starving artists, tree
huggers, lattesippers, vegetarians, junkfood eaters. We
welcome those in recovery or still addicted. We welcome
you if you’re having problems or you’re down in the
dumps or if you don’t like ‘organized religion.’ We’ve
been there, too.

A special welcome to those who think the earth is flat,
work too hard, don’t work, can’t spell, or because
grandma is in town and wanted to go to Mass.

We welcome those who are inked, pierced, or both. A
special welcome to those who could use a prayer right
now, had religion shoved down your throat as a kid or
got lost in traffic and would up here by mistake. We
welcome tourists, seekers and doubters, bleeding
hearts...and you!”
