A Note from Emily, An Invitation…
If I had to list the greatest joys of my life (besides being a wife and mother) one of them
would be the honor to be a part of the faith journeys of the young Church. The young
Church is often defined as young adults, high school youth, and middle school youth. I have
been privileged to spend the last 14 years ministering to and with the young Church…and let
me tell you, it has been a joy!
One of the ways that I have seen God at work in the young Church is through retreat experiences, whether those
retreats were required Confirmation retreats, optional weekend retreats or a mission trip. Any time away from the
hustle and bustle of their everyday life was always fruitful and led them a little bit closer to Christ. We have been
blessed in Hamilton County for the last 26 years to have a weekend long high school youth retreat called Destination
Jesus (DJ) hosted by Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church. This retreat has been a vital part of our diocese, and
even in the midst of the pandemic it will still happen….and you all have the opportunity to be a part of it! Just like
everything else, the pandemic has caused things to look a little different. Instead of gathering for 40 hours of
Eucharistic Adoration, Mass, music, fellowship at Guerin Catholic High School, DJ will be held virtually this year,
but I know that God will still be at work in the hearts of the young people.
Each year at DJ, and this year is no exception, there is an opportunity to hear from a Catholic speaker: someone who
has answered the call and lives out a life of evangelization. This year, the speaker is Jimmy Mitchell. Jimmy has
become of friend of mine in ministry and is by far one of my top three Catholic Speakers…and I have seen a lot of
Catholic Speakers! Jimmy uses the transcendentals of Truth, Goodness, and Beauty to bring alive the love of God for
young people. He has started a movement called LOVE GOOD, which seeks to bring truth, goodness, and beauty to
the lives of people around the world. Every time I hear him speak, I am challenged to grow my faith a little more, love
a little deeper, and seek the beauty in the world around me. I love to listen to his weekly LOVE GOOD podcast on my
drive from Carmel to Cicero.
I want to extend the invitation to the high school youth and their families to sign up with Rachel Woods to be a part of
Destination Jesus 2021. More information will be sent out via Flock Note in the coming weeks, so be on the lookout!
I also want to encourage you to check out Jimmy Mitchell and Love Good on YouTube, Instagram, and at
www.lovegoodculture.com I don’t think you will be disappointed!
Blessings!
Emily

What is First Friday? On the First Friday of the month, we have a special devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus in reparation for sins and to show love to Jesus. St. Margaret Mary Alacoque (1647-1690) reported visions of Jesus Christ directing her to promote devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus on nine consecutive First Fridays. Jesus said to St. Margaret Mary, “In the excess of the mercy of my heart, I promise you that my all powerful love will grant to all those who will receive Communion on the First Fridays, for nine consecutive months, the grace of final repentance: they will not die in my dis-pleasure, nor without receiving the sacraments; and my heart will be their secure refuge in that last hour.”

If we do not have an email address on file, they are being mailed through the postal ser-vice. If you think you should have received the email but did not, please call the Parish Office.
